Ponies or Mammoths? · 12:10am Jul 15th, 2012

I hate having to come to you guys with more news that I don't have a new chapter for Hands yet, but I do have a pretty good excuse this time: I'm volunteering with my museum to dig up a mammoth. Well, more specifically the bones of Ice Age mammals, but we think we found at least a mammoth skeleton at a spring far down south in Douglas County, Colorado. My first day there I found a bit of mammoth ivory and a prehistoric camel tooth-Another team found a mammoth tusk. To dig that out though will require a lot more grant money, so I might not get the chance.

But still, it is pretty awesome to get the chance to dig up an Ice Age giant, right?

Anyway, new chapter is 25% done. Still slow going but I'm getting there. I think I just need to find the time to rewatch all of season 2 and I'll be back in business, but the problem with being busy is that... Well... You're busy.

Dude, ponies will be there when you get back. Go dig your dead carcass up from the ground.

EDIT: Er, that is, the animal's dead carcass.

What type of Mammoth is it, or do you not know, er well you should have an idea based on your location...

I can be patient, take you time, I have writings to make.

Am I the only one who was hoping for some sort of My Little Mammoth story announcement?

I am so jealous! I wish I could go dig up ancient stuff... *pout*

Can't wait for your next update! :pinkiehappy:

That's pretty awesome. I personally have had the chance to see an entire mastodon skeleton as it was being worked on within the museum. It's actually awesome and I hope that you get the chance for your work.

Sue

Awesome sauce :D. Ponies will be here for a long time so no need to hurry.

I think you can lay off the ponies a little bit if life gets that awesome/busy.

Grave robbing or writing about ponies?
Tough call.

232162 Probably a Columbian Mammoth (Mammuthus columbi), not quite as famous as the wooly variety but hey, a mammoth's a mammoth.

The tooth I found probably came from a Camelops hesternus, North American camel. It is hard to imagine camels in America once upon a time but they were here.

I think we all know what needs to be done here.

1. Dig up mammoth bones
2. Extract DNA
3. Insert DNA into the ovum of a female Elephant
4. Wait about 22 months
5. Raise the mammoth as your pet and friend where he will be by your side until death do you apart

OOOOOOH! I remember going to Utah and seeing an entire cliffside covered in fossils, it was so cool. Good Luck!

dude, that sounds fucking amazing

Ponies or Mammoth?

No contest. Mammoth. I love ponies, but dude... ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY, yeah?!

Well, maybe more for you, but still...

232199 Well, a major issue with that plan is that the mammoth is fossilized, and, as such, probably has no DNA left to its name.

mammoths win 10 times out of 10. Ponies will always be here, but the other guys are loooooooooong extinct.:trollestia:

232199

I am now imagining eating mammoth ribs

I am going to be the 1 guy that says ponies...only because everyone else is saying mammoth

that is bad ass. why the fuck are you asking. go and journey to the centre of the earth already

Wow, lucky you. I suggest you continue with the dig, and when you feel up to it and have some free time on your hands you can work on you stories.

No pun intended.:derpytongue2:

You can always write ponies.

You can't always dig up a mammoth.

Dude, that's just asking for a Jurassic Park scenario. Bad Idea.

DIG DUG DIG! Its what Twilight would want.

Just post us some pics of the dig! Would love to see some pics of the dig-sight as ya bring up the mammoth!

That mammoth has been waiting for several million years to be discovered. I think ponies can wait for a few months more. It seems fair. Have fun!

Wait... you were in the county between Colorado Springs and Denver.... well then, on my family vacation, I drove right by the area.
Anyways, cant wait for the next chapter but Mammoth digging can come first.
Also, cool find.

then you discover that what you thoght was a mammoth is realy a pony-mammoth hybrid:pinkiecrazy::pinkiehappy:

I'll echo what everyone has said here already. Finishing a new chapter in a fic is cool but if the reason is because you're digging up fossils, then you should probably concentrate on the fossils. I mean, how often will a chance like this come up?

We'll be patiently waiting right here with the knowledge that you'll be fulfilling a dream moment for anyone in your field.

Freaking Mammoths! Not many people get that chance!

:pinkiegasp:Holy poop I'll never be angry for a lack of Hands again! Didn't know you actually were an archeologist(?)! Wish I checked out your blog long time ago:facehoof:

Dude, that right there? That's awesome. Embark and strike the earth!

232437 Jurassic Park was the 'bad idea' because the people were morons when they made them. They turned it into a theme park instead of keeping ONE (read it ONE) dino
And because they used frog DNA, and made enough to make babies...

Step 1: Learn necromancy.
Step 2: Dig up mammoth skeleton.
Step 3: Apply said magic.
Step 4: USE IT AS A BONE MOUNT AND TRAMPLE ALL WHO OPPOSE YOU!!!
Result: You are now Lord Andrew of Talon.

Words cannot express how cool that is. Keep us posted!

For a second I thought you were talking about tanks! Just watch ponies whenever you have 22 minutes to yourself. I can wait a month if it means that the awesome will continue to flow from your fingertips.

Dont worry Josh, we will all wait for it, we wouldnt of made it this far without doing so :derpytongue2:
