OK, so I was looking back at some of my chapters for Lovestruck and I just... I feel really uncomfortable with some of the things I've written recently. I feel like the story has lost it's quirky charm and it seems more brooding and ranty than it is fun and lighthearted, like I wanted it to be.

I'm saying I screwed up. I made my Lovey look bad, and I feel really bad about it. I made Cherry look like an idiot, and not a lovable, endearing one, but an obnoxious, hard to be around kind. I vented through my story writing and used my characters so I could stand on a soapbox. I ruined my characters by putting my voice where their's should have been, and now I don't think anyone likes the fic as much as when it first came out.

No, I'm not. But, I am considering pushing that Unsubmit Button and going over my story and fixing up my plans for it. I need to revise it and make it so that way Lovey isn't so preachy and angry all the time, and so that way Cherry isn't a stereotypical idiot who everyone rolls their eyes at. I need to fix my mistake.

No! No, I'm not killing you off, if that's what you mean. No, I'm just gonna fix this story up and make it better. I at least owe myself and you that. I also owe my readers that, but if anything, this is more for me than anyone else.

Dunno, but I hope it won't be for long. I love you, Lovey, and Cherry too, believe it or not, but I need to make this better for us. I will do everything in my power to make sure I never have to do this again, for you or for any stories I have. Besides, even if I don't get the story out, which is a pretty big IF, you'll still be with me and everyone who got to see you. I promise, I will fix this for you. Besides, think about how much better you'll be when I'm done!

Yeah, but now you won't be such a loud mouth who has a speech about love or whatever anytime anyone remotely crosses you. Which, won't happen as much since I'll be cutting out any scenes with characters who seem to exist for the sole sake of being wrong and being criticized. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand you won't have to worry about Cherry being such a jerk and so annoying, either. I'll be fixing him up, too!

Uh, if you mean you're extremely oblivious and you can't even tell if Lovestruck's uncomfortable about some of the stupid stuff you do? Also, dude, I am so sorry, but I really butchered you up in the story. You were supposed to be this writer in the making who was eager to learn and was actually extremely likable (except for Lovey, since she didn't really know if your motives were genuine or not). Not some dude who thinks he's hot shit on a silver platter who writes mediocre stuff like 50 Shades or Twilight.

Awesome! Alright, so the main story is going to be the same, except I'm going to be fixing all sorts of things I never got to address and a lot of plot holes I left for the picking. I'm sorry Lovey fans, but I gotta do this. You might see the story soon, you might not. But, in the end, I'm doing this myself and for my characters. Well, interpretations of characters, but still.
Besides, think of how much better the story'll be! I won't be as difficult and Mary Sue-ish, and Cherry won't be so much of an idiot.
Yeah! Besides, there's all sorts of things I messed up with in this fic and I want to make it better. I want to apologize if this has upset you, but I want to do this. No one forced me into this or anything. This is my own decision, and I really want to make sure that I get this right the next time around. In other words, if I can't do it right the first time, then I can sure as hell get it right the second time.

You know I support any author who takes a look at her story and makes some good, conscious decisions about what to do with it. It's really tempting to use ponies as mouthpieces, especially when that's the only forum you've got, but I'd be sorry to see Lovestruck and Cherry Fizzy go away for good.

But anyway, this is pretty much a good move to make. Rarely do people like political talk to begin with and it doesn't spark any pleasant conversations, and you had a ton of it in the last three to four chapters.

I HAVE A PROBLEM. As soon as I become obsessed with something, I must favorite everything that relates to it. Hence my SombraPie folder, as well.
While I think it's great that you realize and want to change faults in the story, I just want to say that I really like Lovestruck as she is right now (you know, except for that kinda wierd scene with the misogynist in the cafe). I think she feels a lot more alive and believable than many other characters in other stories. She wants to be and act one way, and kinda believes herself to do that as well, but not really manages all the way. Like a real person, she's not completely aligned with her percieved self vs actual self. She's a bit of a hypocrit, as are most real people. She's a little bitter, but she's a bit self-conscious about it, so she lashes out when getting called out on it. All of these are bits and pieces that make up believable characters that are often and easily overlooked in other stories, I feel.
This is of course just my own perception/interpretation of her character, which might not be completely accurate.
But what I'm basically saying: don't change too much about her. She's a fantastic character^^

Rewrites are fine. Consider it a case of "I must go into the mountains and train". All new writers must be ready to admit their early work is not good, and then do better.
Could you leave up the old one for people to compare them?

2806696 Admittedly I hadn't read the last chapters but I liked the idea and frankly... well... this whole bloody fandom is kind of an amazing sausage fest and that leds to certain kinds of trends where certain kinds of stories are just flooding the site and makes it so much harder to find stories that take other perspectives into account. I'm glad that it'll be coming back, but I'll miss it when it's gone.
