How suck/not-suck is this cover art?

Hey folks. Next story is coming along, despite the kinks Season 5 is throwing in its path (Seriously, Babs Seed got her cutie mark? Off screen? For hairdressing? There's no way I could've planned for that). Chapter 1 is close, and I'll post it once I have Chapter 2 ready for editing so there hopefully won't be too long a break between updates.

Table for a guest, plus call for editors

Have you heard about Kitsune Risu's new project? No? Have you heard of Kitsune Risu? You should. He's one of the most underrated authors on this site. Roughly one third of my library of Criminally Underrated Stories were penned by this guy.

    Bitter Harvest mini-prequel of sorts

Some of you already know, but I have been hosting weekly writing prompts over at Thirty Minute Ponies. Each prompt is always posted with a mini-fic alongside it, sort of as an example, but mostly to keep myself writing alongside the participants.

    Contest results, and an apology

This is embarrassingly and inexcusably late, and still half-assed and incomplete, but...

The It's My Birthday and I'll Ship Ponies If I Want To contest is over! Like, more than a month ago! Timing!

I am really sorry about this. You folks who put effort forward to make something nice deserve better than this.

Bitter Harvest mini-prequel of sorts · 7:01am Feb 13th, 2015

Some of you already know, but I have been hosting weekly writing prompts over at Thirty Minute Ponies. Each prompt is always posted with a mini-fic alongside it, sort of as an example, but mostly to keep myself writing alongside the participants.

For this week's prompt, I managed to cook up a little something about an event that I referenced in Bitter Harvest. It isn't the GoldenGate sequel that so many of you asked for, but it is another taste of our carrot-farming sweetheart once again in desperate denial, and it builds a bit more context for how she got to be where she was, mentally, at the start of Bitter Harvest.

I highly encourage you to go read it in its original thread as well as the other fics authors have written so far for the prompt, and then hopefully write a fic for the prompt yourselves. But if you can't be bothered with the link, I'll just paste it down here:

Heartbreaks and Hoofaches

Golden Harvest was probably a prodigy at dancing.

A pony might have watched her dance and thought she was merely an okay dancer, but that was only because that pony didn't know the full picture. See, Golden Harvest had never gone dancing before tonight, so 'okay' meant she was incredible. She moved at the same time as the beat almost half the time, and she hardly stepped on anypony's hooves. From no dancing to this in just one night meant she had to be some kind of dancing genius!

Golden Harvest had to be an incredible dancer, because she was dancing with Daisy, and Daisy was amazing. All of her movements were so fluid, so graceful. So beautiful. Her mane swayed this way and that. Looking at her, Golden could almost swear the music was actually coming from somewhere inside her friend, and the speakers were just repeating it.

Obviously, a great dancer like Daisy wouldn't be dancing with Golden Harvest unless she too was a great dancer. Other than the fact that they'd come in together since Golden paid for both of them at the door, and there were three or four other ponies that were also dancing about as close to Daisy as Golden was, and Golden's hooves were starting to get a bit sore because she was stomping a little too hard but she didn't want to say anything because she was still having a lot of fun dancing with Daisy.

It wasn't exactly fair to say Golden Harvest had no experience with dancing before. True, she'd never danced herself, but of course she'd watched other ponies dance. Her moms danced plenty. Mama Taproot was almost as good a dancer as Daisy was, and Mama Beta always seemed to keep up with her. Really, Golden Harvest had superior dancing genes going for her. It was no surprise she was doing so well.

Golden put one hoof on Daisy's withers the way she remembered seeing Mama Beta do. That was usually for slow songs when she wanted to catch her breath, not the driving beat that was playing right now, but it was still a dancing thing. Daisy raised her eyebrows, but she didn't say anything.

What came next? Golden Harvest knew that sometimes dancing looked more like hugging, but with rhythm. Hugging Daisy sounded really nice. She slid her other foreleg around Daisy's neck.

“Golden, what are you doing?” Daisy stopped dancing.

“I—”

“I know about your mom, Golden,” Daisy said, brushing Golden's hooves off her. “You know I'm not like that, right?”

“M-my mom?” Golden stammered. “What?”

“I like colts,” said Daisy.

The music continued to throb. It did not, in fact, come from Daisy. It came from the speakers after all. Golden Harvest swallowed a dry lump in her throat. “I... I like colts, too. Who doesn't? You didn't think I was... c'mon, th-that was just dancing!”

Daisy eyed her carefully. “Uh huh.”

One song ended and another began. A tall colt tapped Daisy on the shoulder. Daisy glanced back at Golden Harvest one more time before following him to another part of the dance floor.

Golden Harvest didn't feel like dancing to this new song. It had nothing to do with Daisy, obviously. It was just that her hooves really hurt, and the song wasn't all that good, and really she should get back to her carrots anyway.

Carrots hate dancing.

:fluttercry:

I feel sorry for Golden Harvest.

It isn't the GoldenGate sequel that so many of you asked for

This implies that said sequel is still coming.
Right??
...
Right?

OT: Poor Golden, rejected by your date even though you had so much fun. No wonder you are so deep in denial...

HYPE. THE HYPE IS REAL.

it was such a wonderful story and this is such a sad prequel and now all I want is to see her not-miserable

That GoldenGate sequel better be coming one of these days or I swear *grumblegrumble*

2792794 But misery is so much easier to write!

2792682 2793052 :trixieshiftleft: :trixieshiftright: yeeaah...

2792778 Hush, you.

2793271 This is your own fault! If you didn't want people to jump at the mention of *the* sequel, you should not have written such a good sequel hook. Or such a good ending in general. Or such a good story.

This.
How dare you. =(

I still demand a Flarity sequel to Spitballed. But I shall try to be satisfied with more Golden Harvest.

Why aren't you putting these in an anthology?
