Happy Fourth of July, Everypony! · 7:55pm Jul 4th, 2012

It's difficult to separate politics from a day where all Americans are supposed to celebrate the fact that our country was born over 236 years ago. But I'm of the opinion that a good idea is a good idea, no matter who says it. And you have to admit, a country founded on the notion that the government is for the service of the people to protect their inalienable rights granted by God (or the universe, if you prefer an Agnostic or Atheistic interpretation, though it doesn't sound quite as good) and NOT by a king is pretty good.

Do we have problems? Hell yes. But I'll take bickering about annoying logos, bad video games, figuring out what health insurance to buy and how much to pay in taxes for a new road over having all that decided for me. Freedom is responsibility, to make your own choices and live with them even if you fail. It's dangerous and messy but so is friendship and living your dreams. And in that way, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic embodies this ideal. It is trumpeted as American, but I believe that it is a human trait that we all wish for the courage to take a chance and make our own way in the world, even if no one else approves.

The flags and pies and baseball and stereotypes of patriots are just window dressing for an idea that in all of our hearts, we dearly want to be true.

To me, that is American.

Happy 4th of July Andrew!

Have a good one :D

Sue

thats... a lot more thought than i usually put into it. Happy 4th, Andrew.

Aru

Happy 4th ^^ Even if i am not American. :rainbowwild:

Happy 4th to ya! Enjoy your cookouts, company, and mini explosives!

The fires around putting a damper on fireworks kinda sucks though. I completely understand why but still, they're a staple of the holiday.

212250 You too! And hey, freedom is a universal ideal. You want to call it "American", you can, but I prefer to think of it as something everybody wants. Just not everybody says so.

212255 Indeed! I live in Colorado so believe me, I'm feeling that worse than usual.

212259
I know. For I too live in Colorado. Luckily not where the fires have spread. If nothing else, this heat wave sucks weather wise.

Aru

212258 Yup. I approve both reasons to celebrate 4th. Freedom(even if gov is doing everything to take it from, not only US citizens) and fact that this young country have 236 birthday! The most important thing about every country are people who live in this place, no politicians and other bitches(yup they are bitches and not normal people :P They can sell they own country with no regrets but enough of this pesimistic bullshit have some Pinkie)

Every excuse for party is good! Especially things like 4th!

July 4th is a day for me to ignore politics. Even more so for ignoring safety precautions when I buy $200 of paper and gunpowder to blow my hand up.:derpytongue2:

So THAT'S what you celebrate on 4th, eh?

Good to know and happy 4th July!

"or the universe, if you prefer an Agnostic or Atheistic interpretation"
Agnostic believes that there is a god, they just dont know what it is. Atheist believes that there is no god

Any holiday celebrated with explosions is alright in my book. :rainbowdetermined2:

Great post, and I agree. The very fact that we can disagree with each other so passionately, and disagree just as passionately with our own government, is part of what makes me so proud of my country.

A great many things are broken and need fixing, but as long as we have the freedom to demand answers and accountability from our leaders, things can always get better. :rainbowdetermined2:

We'll get you next time, Colonials! :twilightangry2:

Just kidding; hope you all have a great day! :pinkiehappy:

STILL MAH BIRTHDAY HERE
AWWW YEAHHH

What you just said...that was amazing. Happy fourth.

Well said, good sir, well said.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th! Fires in Fort Co, Fires in the Springs, thankfully none here in Denver so the shows shall go on!:rainbowdetermined2:

Your statement is so touching, Andrew. And Happy 4th of July to you too.
American, brony, and proud.

For the record, Agnostics "don't deny the existance of a god theory". This doesn't necessarily mean that they beleive that there is generally a god. It just means that they don't know, and don't place random assumtions. @Ferote

While waiting for fireworks to start here, I was reading FIMFiction.net on my phone.

I'm proud to live in a nation where I'm free to spend hundreds of dollars on MLP:FIM toys if that's what I really want to do. And more proud to live in a nation where other people are free to make said toys, because there's a market of fans looking for toys.

I've always gone by the assumption that my political views are different from many readers, so I keep politics out of my writing. Just remember that what we share, in particular this awesome fictional universe, is far more important than our differences!

212596 Well happy birth day to you and happy 4th to all american friends.:yay::yay::yay:

This should be played on The 4th of July instead of the national anthem (Don't get it at first? Look closer at the lyrics. Still don't get it? Then don't give a shit.). :rainbowwild:

Funny. The 4th of July is my birthday....
wait a minute....:pinkiegasp:
its my birthday!!!
YAY!!!:pinkiehappy:

Happy 4th to you and Happy 1st to us Northerners.

Hey man, es a German I don't really get the patriotism-thing you have going every year, since if you say anything patriotic about your country here the government will set your house on fire, but I can see where your ideals are coming from.

Though I prefer not to believe these rights were granted in any way, but are what every human strives to achieve. A civilization where everyone is equal and free to persue whatever they desire, where everyone is protected by the law just the same, is, in my opinion, an ideal everyone should fight for.

So, I don't see the appeal in this holiday (despite fireworks, explosives are awesome), but I like the idea behind it.

Have good one on the other side of the pond. :derpytongue2:

as a non american i simply choose to believe that MLP:FIM is a human right.

and i hope you had plenty of irresponsible fun on your nation specific holiday

:rainbowlaugh:Canadian here, screw your silly American holidays, we have work to do. And mini-doughnuts to eat.
