    SnarkCast Interview Over

I was nervous at first, and I did ramble a bit in places, but it was still a lot of fun to do. Once Muggonny has edited the video, it'll be uploaded to the SnarkCast YouTube channel; I'll post another blog when that happens.

    Q&A Round Twenty-Eight!

I don't know why I want to do another one, but I figured it's been long enough, so why not? Only this time, I will be doing something slightly different.

First of all, you have until June 22nd to send in 10 questions; they can be addressed to me, or any character from any of my stories. Send your questions to me in a PM, making sure you use 'Q&A' as the subject.

This... This Was Not What I Expected · 10:03pm Jul 23rd, 2014

Amy Clockwork's review of The Origin Of Sunbutt is now available to read — and I have to say I am surprised.

Here's a small selection of some of the things she said:

* 'Simply, the small cast of the Royal Sisters and Twilight don't see much development.'
* 'Yes, believe it or not, the monumental story of Celestia receiving the very thing every filly works for their entire childhood doesn’t see any character development.'
* '... Luna, Celestia and Twilight are actually done well and I was impressed with the portrayal of Twilight. She was put in a role we've rarely seen her in the show and for the most part, her actions were believable.'
* '... it spits in the face of the canon lore surrounding cutie marks in more ways than not.'

But then she goes on to say this:

Now forget everything I just said. You see, while researching for this review, I realized that Geo has an odd collection of stories. Most of the stories are short and often satirize the FiMFiction community. Then it hit me: The Origin of Sunbutt is a parody. Sure, all the problems I mentioned are true, but I wouldn't say they're applicable. Unless Geo intended for everyone to take it seriously… In which case, I can't even begin to consider the implications of that. So for the first time, I'm dumbfounded. What? A score? No… No, I can’t give a parody a score. Giving it a score would just go against the whole theme of a parody. I simply refuse. Take the review and run with it. I'm done here.

FINAL RESULT

She doesn't really hate me... I hope.

Take a look at the review, and tell me what you think.

Wow, that's awesome that you got a review! And I'm glad she was able to see the satire in and out of itself so that she didn't give it a bad one.

Well she does go on to say this:

Now forget everything I just said.

So, technically, that comment about 'spitting in the face of canon lore' is now null and void.

While you are getting reviews (although no score), I am off watching Panty and Stocking w/Garterbelt for the hundreth time. I can never get enough of Scanty and Kneesocks, especially their theme.

Sorry to have offended you. :twilightoops:

You see, canon lore shows us that cutie marks are something a pony works their entire childhood to obtain. It's a journey of self-discovery where the struggle to find your talent and subsequent place in the world is very real. This makes sense and has often been interpreted as a metaphor to real life teenagers trying to find their place while quickly approaching adult life.

Whether or not you agree with the metaphor, this "journey of self-discovery" was not well illustrated in The Origin of Sunbutt.

EDIT: But I did say that it's no longer applicable later on...

No, it's alright. There's no need to apologize.

In fact, you make a good point. Getting creative with your story's lore shouldn't be considered something that makes it medicore. :applejackunsure:

However, I think this much more a case of faulty character development than not following canon lore.

Huh. I didn't realize you can't review a parody. Don't I feel stupid for all those times I discussed the parts I liked and disliked about my favorite parodies. :applejackunsure:

At the very least, now you can say you have a story that got reviewed. Someday, I will be able to say the same.

I've got the feeling that she doesn't 'get it'. To me, it was obvious from the start that it was more comedy than anything else!
