Damn… It’s over. After nearly six months, My Overbearing Aunt has ended. To say that it’s been a hell of a ride would be a major understatement.
Like I did with Facing Changes, I’m using this blog to open up a discussion about our thoughts on the story, whether you’ve been reading from the beginning or you’re just catching up, because I like to hear the readers’ opinions.
This was the story where I really started to hit my stride as a FIMFiction writer, and it’s the story that helped me gain a lot of readers. I didn’t realize how popular this story would become until I saw it hit the Featured box and get 100 likes less than a day after I published it.
I didn’t think that people would like the story this much, as I have seen many fics of Celestia adopting someone (both pony AND human) done before, and I wasn’t sure if MOA would stand out. Another reason why I wasn’t sure of its success was because it was an HiE AND an Anthro story, and those are two of the most reviled genres on this site (based on my observations).
What started out as a fun little comedic romp evolved into a nearly thirty-chapter story, and it’s thanks to you guys that I made it this far. I’ve gotten a lot of great comments that helped me with writing comedic, romantic, and dramatic scenes without having them feel out-of-place. It was this story that introduced me to my awesome editor, danail24, and while it’s sad to see it end, I’m also happy to be moving on to other stories.
After completing this story, I’ve recognized that it pretty much organized itself into separate story arcs:
The Introduction Arc (Prologue-Chapter 3)
The Party Arc (Chapters 4-5)
The Punishment Arc (Chapters 6-10)
The Confessions Arc (Chapters 10-12)
The Dates Arc (Chapters 13-17)
The Parental Bonding Arc (Chapters 18-21)
The Heath’s Warming Arc (Chapters 22-28)
Which arc was your favorite? Which character was your favorite? What did you think of the story as a whole?
As for whether or not I’ll do another story this long… probably not. Not for a very long time, at least.
Unlike Facing Changes, where a sequel was plausible and could be warranted, I think that this story is just fine without a follow-up. I will be publishing Alternate Perspectives soon, but it’ll probably come later than I originally planned. I have to get the cover art for it done, and I want to really test myself with Shades of Night and an upcoming Mane-iac one-shot I plan on doing…
But I’ll get to that tomorrow.
I've had an awesome time writing this story. It's gotten over 1000 likes, over 2000 comments, it's over 100,000 words long, and it has Celestia-knows-how-many favorites.

Awesome story, My Favorite Arc is actually the Punishment because I felt like that what really represent the Title of the story but after that it really nothing but a shipping story but I still enjoy it regardless.
Now I know how much you hate squeals but I wouldn't mind seeing this one where Luna give birth to Celestia kid and see how she raise it. My Overbearing Mom see there your title right there, But I'm not giving my hopes up.

I think the perfect quote to sum up everyone's feeling about this was "Love to see it go, hate to see it leave." Considering how many people started reading it from chapters 3 through 7. I started reading it when it still had about two chapter and it was a major surprise that it basically became your longest-chaptered fic. Since you mostly had stories from 7 to 15 chapters or so and nothing beyond.
I loved the story from beginning to end and was really dedicated to reading each chapter as soon as they get updated.
The slightly ambiguous ending was a nice way to end a story like that, considering how early we still are on Marcus' life (he's still in college brah) and only our imagination does the unwritten rest of his story thrive. I love ambiguous endings as a whole, since it is the best medium for imagination to take place on what happens next.

Are you consider, maybe in the future make a little side story some time later, this time with Luna love interest being male or female, pony or not?
I'm kind of wonder how she will explore the world and find friends like Celestia did, and maybe put little cameos of Marcus and Octavia relationship growing, maybe Marcus now trying to help her aunt find her special someone and even maybe if you like, you can make that Luna has to choose between 2 as well, je like cousin like aunt right?
Also I love that ending where Luna give more light to Celestia and tell that she will be there when she is ready to bring her son or daughter, probably when Marcus reach old age and die and Celestia get pass her duel

Fair enough, it was a good way to end it, and all of them got closure, hell you even bent down your rules a bit and let us had a 'what if' scenario with the possibility of others, we can wait to see what you give us next, for now I will look forward to see your next chapter of 'shades of shadows'

the whole thing was amazing.
You wrote the most amazing story ever, I can't wait to read the sequal to it if you make one. But I'll admit, that I was hoping Marcus would get to meet Twilight. Who knows, maybe he'll meet her in a sequel.

MOA has finished! and to be honest i will miss it, been with the story from the start, it seems only yesterday that i was arguing that he should get with luna. I will miss this story, though the alternate endings will be nice to read, If only we could have a sequel.

This was an amazing story dude and I loved every second of it from Chapter one to Chapter 29. It was one hell-of-a ride and I hope to see you beat my expectations again.

Oh, favorite arc was probably the party arc. Favorite character: Luna, just because a lot of her lines and the situations she and Marcus were in were amusing.
I'm glad to have been on this emotional rollercoaster 'till the end.
On another note, I find HiE fics on the tippy-top of my fanfiction list, with Anthro being very appealing as well.

Well, I can certainly say that I loved this story. I don't always read romantic things like this, since the ones I have read were awful. But when I do, it's a story like this.
First thing I have to say is that while I had been a beta reader for the first ten? chapters, I only regret not being able to make time for this, and pointing out all of the mistakes in those chapters (which I had fun with). I can honestly say that for the short time I helped with the story, even though it was a minor role, it was great. There's just something about getting to read something before it's thrown out to the sharks that makes the story all the more interesting.
This story was filled with feels that hit you like a truck (I know how that is *rubs right arm*), and everyone that worked on this, whether temporary or permanent, as I know that there were at least three other betas at one time, did a fantastic job. Especially the writer and his editor, who joined up around chapter five, I think. This was a wonderful read, and I'm actually glad there won't be a sequel, as the end was far too perfect to allow it to continue.
I know patiently await the Alternate Perspectives while I work on other people's stories, in addition to my own. Keep it up, Sketch!
i know you got it alot but i have to say there is potential in a sequel, i mean its his 1st year at school there and octavias 3rd. that alone has potential in the story line like his 2nd year being octavias last there.
but i'm just being a fanboy i loved the story and im sad that its over. however i'm looking forward to reading Shades of Night. i really enjoy your work
