    A Fan Favorite

So, in between commissions, I like to do some personal pieces to give myself a chance to relax. Recently I got the idea to revisit a fan favorite character from my (arguably) most popular story on this site.

    Honey Pot

Just as a refresher, here's what she looked like back in the day.

Getting Back Into Gear (MOA:AP Readers)

I know, I know, it's been forever, both with Hate Thy Neighbor AND MOA: Alternate Perspectives. I haven't been writing much lately, but I've been presented with an opportunity to change that. I'll be making separate journals tagging both HTN and MOA:AP since this journal will discuss my plans for both, so for the folks that'll be getting this in their feed twice, I apologize in advance.

Facing Changes: Devin vs. Luna - Who Was in the Right? · 7:57pm Mar 30th, 2014

If you've read the latest chapter (srop reading now if you haven't), you'll know that Devin and Luna got into a little... altercation. My question for you guys is this: whose side were you on? Let me know who or why in the comments!

I think Luna is too strict. It is true that Devin spent some time avoiding Celestia, and unintentionally hurting her, because he was coping with a lot of changes in his life and he didnt want to cause conflict with his new stepmother. He has attempted to bond with her but has a REALLY poor timing. Luna, on the other hand, is being unnecessarily hostile towards Devin. Although she is en titiled to be mad at Devin for hurting her sister's feelings, she is demonizing him as she thinks of him as a delinquent considering the fact that she keeps him on a short leash and refuses to bond with him. Then again, my opinion is biased, as seeing the events from Devin's perspective and his regrets when dealing with his failure to bond with others makes me more sympathetic towards him than Luna.

Usually I would disagree but for once Devin was justified in how he reacted, Luna went a little to far and is to blinded in her own conviction to see that while yes she is trying to protect her sister. She is hurting her sister by trying to fight Celestia's son. Devin is still partly to blame for not telling his mother sooner about the rift between him and Luna but at least he is trying to correct that mistake just like how he acknowledged his error in how he treated his new mom previously. It will probably take some intervention from Celestia or his dad to fix things between him and his Aunt Luna, though I also think Luna is hiding her hurt in how Devin was rejecting all his new family members, herself included.

While Devin is partly to blame for rejecting his new family members, Luna included, in the beginning, Luna herself is being biased and thinking solely about her actual family, not realizing Devin may need time to adjust. I think his dad and Celestia may have to help fix things.

In spite of my slightly insane devotion to the Princess of the Night, I am inclined to side with Devin. While both parties are in the wrong to some degree, Luna seems to be rejecting any attempts by him to apologise for his behaviour. surely she has learnt the importance of forgiveness.

On the other hand, Celestia was in the wrong and made Luna apologise upon her return, so maybe she's just going by what she knows. :trollestia:

I would say both of them are partly in the wrong. I can understand Luna being protective of Celestia, but that does not give her the right to treat Devin badly. A lot has changed in Devin's life, and he should have been nicer to Celestia, but he sees that and is trying to make things better. Still Devin should not have fired back and Luna like that. I can understand that he was angry, but that does not make it a good idea.

I think in the end I am leaning more towards Devin. Devin is still relatively young, but Luna should be old enough and mature enough to not take out her anger on a kid like that.

1967102 Yup, also I don't think Luna realizes that Devin is also included in her family now, not just her normal ones with Twilight,Celestia, Cadence and Shining. And her fighting with him is just as bad as her would be fighting with any of her other family members. But alas that is the difficulty one faces when you bring 2 different families together at this kind of stage when one comes with a child who is old enough to think for himself instead of one raised from birth or younger around the new family members. Easier to imprint unto a child that they are family than it is a young adult who has to adjust to everything.

i have read the comments and it seems that she is too strict but in reality she just cares for her sister and wants to see her happy. But when Devin started to 'reject' Celestia as a stepmother, she felt hurt and couldn't forgive him for that. Besides Devin should have manned up and said that he had a problem with all these changes cause then she may have had a better understanding of what he's going through. Cause i am sure when she came back from the moon she had a hell of a time adjusting to not only the new way of speaking, but also the social aspect of society. so Luna all the way

I say both, but lean slightly to Luna going overboard. Devin shouldn't have snapped at her but Luna went too far and wouldn't really let him apologize.

Both are right yet both are wrong, but I am more likely to side with Devin on this as he is trying to reach out to his new family but Luna's not taking it. Unfortunately all this is likely to do is hurt Celestia even more

Having an idea of what Devin is going through with the trouble adjusting to his new life. Thanks to personal experience, I have to say I favor Devin's side. But the argument has been made, and is valid. That Luna could be trying to protect her sister and look out for her, just like any good sibling would . But she has gone about it the wrong way in being so hostile to Devin. One would think she of all ponies would understand the need to adjust to new things.

I can see how both have their reasons for acting the way they are: Devin trying to adjust to his new life in a completely new environment, new school, new family members, though the stress on him could have been lessened if he talked to his dad about this, he tries to keep it together to not get him worried, and Celestia recognized that during the coronation. Luna, being loyal to her sister, wants the best for her, and seeing how Devin was behaving to his new stepmom left a negative impression on her part. I'm not sure if Luna and Celestia talked about it, but it seems the former has took it into her own hands to protect the latter, and not accepting Devin as a new member of the family (yet).

In the argument between them, Devin does admit he's still trying to adjust to his new life, and connecting with Celestia, but it seems Luna is not buying into it. Adding into it, she downplays Devin for not taking his new title seriously, and add insult putting his stuffed bear Misfit into it. As she leaves, Devin pushes her out and slams the door, Luna responds by... I wanna say bucking the door hard enough to send Devin off before she stomps out.

In this situation, though I admit to be possibly biased, I'm siding with Devin on this one. Up until they part ways, Devin tries explaining to how he's trying to readjust, but Luna's not giving him the benefit of the doubt (Not sure if I worded that correctly, so excuse me if I'm wrong). The push may have been much to end the conversation, but hey, he got riled up from an insult on his stuffed bear his late biological mother gave him, that's pretty much the same as someone insulting one's mother. I'd probably be the same if I was that close to my mom. Luna after getting shoved out, reacted with violence against the door before she walked out. Really, I know she was getting agitated herself, but that's just going too far, not just as a princess, but against one's own nephew no less. Not to mention since she's an alicorn, her physical strength could be that of an earth pony's, maybe even more than that. Who knows if Devin could get hurt from her possibly smashing through the door and sending him flying across the room? I'd think she'd be more mature at this, but that action just lost some brownie points for me.

I can definitely tell Celestia will get hurt by both Luna and Devin by this encounter one way or another, but I certainly do hope things will start to calm down after that. :fluttershysad:

I would take Devins side because he's just having a hard time trying to adjusting to his new life as a prince while Luna is being very hostile towards him, but she was doing it to protect her sister...... well very overprotective.:ajsleepy::ajsleepy:

Based on a quick read of the chapter and noticing some very valid points by other people, I'm leaning towards Devin. Luna is not teaching what she preaches by acting the way she does and purporting that he is not acting properly. Further, she has many years on him. She should be much more in control and forgiving based on her own past. This not to say Devin wasn't partially to blame for the lack of communication earlier. However, his anger in the scene is somewhat justified as all Luna did was make attack after attack at him without listening to what he was saying. At some point you just can't take anymore. This is of course compounded by the history of the stuffed animal Luna might not be aware of.

Devin, because Luna doesn't know what troubling him about Adjusting of his new life and title as prince, I think Luna has way step over the line on this.

Edited Note:
Devin wanted to get to know Celestia, it was very nice of him when he offer to spend time with her from no school, like atone of his mistakes for hurting his step-mother.

there both in the wrong luna for backing him in a corner and devian for lashing out as he did.

I think that Devin is wrong here, if you were angry at someone for hurting one of the few things in your life and that would stay close, you would never forgive them for hurting them. Devin knows he did wrong and is trying to fix it, but he still hurt Celestia. Take this in another, darker perspective: If a criminal killed a person, would you stop at nothing in your power to make them see justice, even if they saved another life? The logical answer would be NO, the criminal is STILL going to jail for what he did, even if he made amends and helped others.
1967159 You forgot Blueblood, btw.

1968192 we both know he is a lost cause and doesn't count :p

I would say both were in the wrong till Devin tried to make amends and start again but Luna wouldn't let him, Now he should have controlled his anger better but we all have a breaking point so yeah in my opinion Devin is in the right.

Kinda biased opinion but i'm saying that Devin is in the right but only because of one thing. Luna is almost trying to coax a reaction out of him. She doesn't even try to act nice when given the chance. So Devin's reaction is completely justified. Only fight fire with fire if water doesn't work (the metaphor that I leave you with)
