When you don't want to write?

What do you do when writing becomes a chore? What happens if you've spent 8+ years writing and then, all of a sudden, the desire is gone? What do you do when someone suggests that you should write and your groan because you feel like you're about to go wash dishes?

    Now taking Commissions!

With this journal and the posting of my latest story, I am happy to announce that commissions are finally open to the public! I hope to make enough money from this to help support myself and my dad while having enough left over to afford a few gifts for friends and save up for a good computer, all the while writing you a story you’ll love! As to how that will work, commissions begin at 5000 words

I'm going to delete Pinkie Dinky Pie, I swear...

Okay, everyone, I'm getting sick and tired of this. I write a padded pony story for a friend using their character, and what do I get? A few comments and notes complaining that I didn't use one of the mane 6 AND asking for more Dinky Pie.

    Self Confidence issues

I'm doing a lot more writing lately. I've got some stories just waiting for coverart all lined of to be posted. And, yes, more of the padded pony variety. sorry Celestia's Daughter fans... I just don't know if I have it in me to continue it. I'm still trying to muster up the energy, but it wanes everytime I try.

I just don't know if I have it in me to continue it. I'm still trying to muster up the energy, but it wanes everytime I try.

Part of that is, well, I'm kind of scared. I never set out to write for anyone other than myself, really, but I've been noticing a steady decline in view, thumbs, and comments for my stories. Am I doing something wrong? I admit, my ego kinda hurts from this.

But, in the end, I'll still be writing for me. I guess I just want to know if there's anything I can do to have more interest, or if I'm just unlucky.

I'm still loving everything you write... It's just that we usually end up talking via PM :pinkiehappy:

I still fave and upthumb everything, and always enjoy what you write. Braeby Training was a big surprise, because I remembered reading it when you were only about half way done!

Anything you wanna talk about?

I've been enjoying the stories other than celestia's daughter.

Well if you really want something to help

- Listen to soothing music that will make you happy (avoid tragic soothing)
- Watch movies that always cheer you up AND have a moral/s in them that you want your story/stories to have
- Go for a walk in the park and breath some fresh air, away from the PC and from your room (you will be shocked at how effective breathing fresh air can rejuvenate the mind)
- Eat healthy, go on a diet even (cause the food that you put into your body, not only becomes part of your body but also influences the emotions you project)

Hope this helped

People would always be people, m'friend, and they will shy away from what they consider 'weird'. If this helps any, I do never downthumb your updates and it is always a pleasure to read. Okay, maybe my comments sometimes are a bit harsh, but - beg your pardon for it.
And yes, in my feed section there are a new updates to the groups like Motherhood is Magic, if I am not mistaken. Fresh out, they say, so keep on, my friend.

We have faith in ye. >:j (\^v^

Oh, I don't mind harsh and truthful comments! It's how I get better. It's just there aren't as many. I guess I'm just wondering where everyone went.

1717609 Well, some would just make a scared face and go away, some would better ignore. But they say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder - same for truth, I suppose.

I am a fan of your wok, I just don't comment very often. You are probably on of the few quality Padded Pony authors I've seen and even your non padded stuff is good.

1717609 I'm going to assume it's a case of real life, college courses, jobs, and other issues that are tying people up and keeping them away. Because you're a wonderful author, and although I have only read your padded pony stories you are amazing. You just have that natural knack for it.

You could be a victim of your own popularity. Perhaps people that want you to write more Celestia's Daughter are passive-aggressively voting down your work, or it could be some of the less-capable writers in the Padded Ponies group taking out their frustrations on you. I mean, when dreck like this, this, this and this are getting more likes or a better ratio of likes to dislikes, something fishy is going on.

One might also attribute it to snap-judgements from seeing a diaper on the front page front-and-centre. Since my work has been firmly locked in the "cute" category with young characters, I've managed to dodge that bullet.

I'm inclined to agree with 1718240 , sorta.
to speak from mine opinion, I got on your case after Celestia's Daughter, and as fairly "normal" reader, I find literally everything since you've writ to be... weird and not anywhere near my area of interest. I don't like bad of them nor those who read them, just that they're not the kind of thing I'd ever really have a desire to read honestly.
Crucify me for saying so, but that's what I think it is with your progressively smaller views et al: diaper stories creep out repulse most folks, whereas Celestia's Daughter is a nice, sweet story with absolutely nothing relating to the rest of your writings in genre or mayhap tone (I don't know; I've not read any but CD). Heck, when I got message stating your new story was out and saw what it was about, I furrowed my brow and went back to what I was doing, since everything you've writ since CD has not been anywhere my interests of reading. Thus, since I presume most of your readers are coming from CD, like me in a sense, I believe there to be a correlation.
Speaking as your friend, this is whence I think your "problems stem".

Also, howdy there, Conflicted Writer!
That is all.

steady decline in view, thumbs, and comments for my stories

I don't think your doing anything wrong :pinkiegasp:, don't think that!

Also, I have noticed that too for my stuff, and a few other friends who write here. I believe less people are logged on with the show still going is all. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. If I were to assume, however, it may be because character such as Braeburn, little Strongheart, Caramel, and, in general, background characters or those with little screen time, aren't so popular with your fans as the more popular characters, such as the mane 6 and notable ones. There are many people that'd rather hear a story about one of the mane six, but only so many will stop and read about one for a character that only appeared once. But, that's not saying you shouldn't use those characters, I for one like the uniqueness.

I guess you're both right, in a sense. I just noticed that everything after my Spa story has steadily declined in popularity. I'm probably writing too much for me, actually. I wish I could muster up the strangth to return to CD. But, much like Pinkie Dinky Pie, I'm kind of scared of it now. Especially with season 4 already going. I feel like I'm so far behind in everything.

It's probably the cold doing most of the talking. Also, hello, Crushic. Sorry that we haven't been in touch much. I really am sorry our interests have so completely changed course.

Perhaps a journal post detailing what you were planning to do with CD if you're not able to finish it? That way people will at least know what was going to happen.

It's not that I'm enjoying your work less, I can read and enjoy any well-written story and literally have read every kind of story genre on this site. It's like what SuperPinkBrony12 said, I've got no time. I keep trying to find time to read fics lately, but school gets the better of me :ajsleepy:. Expect to hear from me though, I've still got your stories on the back burner and personally cannot wait to read them. It's a shame you've been getting less viewers though.

On the CD story (which I haven't read btw) thing, I know the feeling...I got a small (albeit not popular) story that I've been trying to continue for ...well like 18 months or something...yet everytime I write on it,... it just falls apart. If you find a "cure", please do tell me.

I'll be honest and say that I don't think I've read any of your stories since Dinkie Pie, this hasn't anything to do with your writing though, I just haven't been in much of a reading mood at all and I'm probably not the only one (although it's unlikely to be the majority). Another reason might be that people read one story, like it and then move on, not paying attention as to who the author was.

Another thing that plays a huge role is luck, if you're fic got published at a bad time when asshats who downvotes everything with a subject matter they don't enjoy is likely to see it, you get off to a bad start while the opposite can occur as well.

I think I'll read your Caramel story later.

I think the issue is people can't think of anything to say about your writings, I know that's my problem anyway. It's not that they're bad, I just can't find the words to say something.

Your awesome! :yay:
I was going to leave a comment here but it got long so I'll send it as a PM instead.
I'm just leaving this message as well cuz I wanted to publicly show my support.
Padded pony is a niche to be sure, but you write it so very very well. I am glad that you make and share these stories with us. Caught Carmel is my favorite of yours. That story is awesome. I am a sucker for snuggles. :twilightblush:

to busy to read shit is all....

Your stories are wonderful, I'm just not brave enough to favourite them. :twilightblush:
