Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen 2nd Print Version! · 5:39am Aug 15th, 2023
So Ministry of Image has done an amazing print version of Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen. I was not nearly as involved in this version as the Nonexistent Publications version, which you can order here (but you'll have to wait until 100 orders are reached for the rerun).
That being said, the product Ministry of Image has put out is stunning and the book even had a nice tassel for me to save my page. I'm not sure if this is included in the other copies, but they also had a few slipped-in artworks.
All for the cost of $30 USD (not including shipping).
So if you're interested in getting a print version of Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen, you actually have two options! I don't get any of the proceeds (which is good b/c wow the legal issues) but yeah, if you'd like a print version, go on ahead!
Omg yes
I know what I order next month ♡
hmmmm.... *considers getting a prepaid visa* (its the ONLY way i can order things online)
If this was sold at Twilight's Book Nook I would've snatched this up in a heartbeat.
So is that the case for all authors of books printed at the Ministry of Image? Because of legal issues regarding IP?

Just the case for any print version of a fanfiction honestly

Umm… not really.
Hasbro has made the strategic decision to be very hands-off when it comes to copyright enforcement on fan-created works. That includes custom plushies, contracted artwork, and fiction.
They've decided to only send out cease-and-desist in instances when they think it will hurt the Intellectual Property. The only instance that comes to mind was the fighting game My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic
Because fan fiction adds so much novel creative content, there is a decent chance it would be protected under the doctrine of Fair Use. There hasn’t been a definitive court case on the topic of Fan Fiction, so it is still a legal gray area.
Doing a search of Amazon and several other sites will find many MLP based fan fiction works that the authors get paid for, just like Ministry of Image gets paid for the books they print.
Just wondering, are both versions identical or do they have differences? I remember the Nonexistent Publications print having unique artwork. I wonder if the new print has it's on different artwork.
5742422 That sounds... very odd. You got an example?

very very different artwork and in-set art, Nonexistent publications even uses a different type (text setting)

Did some more research and I was misremembering some of the books. They are printed by Lulu instead of Amazon.
One more addition would be the Changeling Space Program, though I don't know if it is still in print.

Damn, that makes me more indecisive about which print to choose.

Nonexistent Publications currently runs only when you reach 100 orders for that title (you don't have to pay first, you just need to register/indicate you want a copy) so the wait for the run could be a while.
Ministry of Image appears to be order immediately so... that could help you decide.

If having to wait for orders to accumulate on the nonex one isn't an issue, which cover do you prefer?
Glad I got mine already. Just a nice reminder of the story. I know the sequels likely won't come to print but maybe some art of the third story could happen. I remember Firimil's renditions of Mirage, Kyria, and Chamelia, but it'd be nice to see some other pieces.

Yah it would be nice. Though I haven't seen any recently. Ah well.
