Celestia was always a "family mare". She always held up families as one of the greatest social institutions in the country. She is famously good with children. All of Equestria looks to her almost like some great parental figure. But for some reason she has always been childless herself.

Perhaps it's time to change that. She is, after all, married to the most wonderful mare she had ever known.

Something is bothering Celestia, enough to keep her up all night, every night. Enough to risk her screwing up, and revealing to all of Equestria what she is behind the facade of serene wisdom - a bizarre idiot. Thankfully Luna is on the case, determined to figure out what's going on with her sister, and help if she can, at least if they can stop bickering long enough to do that.

Celestia is more than a millenium old, and with that comes much sadness and regret. Ponies are ever-transient in her life, and she hasn't had a real friend until Twilight Sparkle came along. Therein lies the crux of the matter: Celestia has always loved her faithful student, in one manner or another, but, recently, it's become markedly more . . . ehem, non-platonic. Little does she know, Twilight feels the same about her! But Celestia's extreme depression might ruin any chance for her to find happiness. Meanwhile, Luna is as devious and plotting as ever, ready with silly antics determined to push the two princesses into each other's arms!
