That went from zero to a hundred very quickly.
I don't have much to do with SOF units myself and I've heard stories of them doing crazy things when it comes to disrespecting "regular" officers, but I don't think even they would get away with what firefly seems to be constantly doing to her superiors and squad. She'd get sent to a mandatory psychiatric evaluation at least and maybe treated for extreme combat stress.

While I wanted to keep the storytelling authentic to carrier battlegroup operations, liberties are intentionally taken in how squads administrate themselves. In universe, squads spend far more time with their ARC ships on patrol than they do tied to the fleet and are thus given a high degree of autonomy in how they operate. Squads will coordinate with nearby squads to tackle targets given by fleet command but FleetCOM usually adopts a laissez-faire attitude with regards to HOW objectives are accomplished. As a result, a lot of chain of command is ad hoc in the field, usually going to those with the most intel on a given target. Only for major operations like the Battle of Valdus are they brought back to the fleet and unified under a central command structure, which is why Skywind's prying into her business on a mission that was under her command is such a trigger point for Firefly.
That said, I do plan to have other characters address Firefly's (now very obvious) PTSD in the following chapters. It is a major point of contention in her unit right now and will be addressed before the end of the story.

That's actually pretty close to my understanding of how real life SOF works. They are fairly proud of their autonomy and as I said, tend to get away with more when it comes to regular officers (assuming the rumors and stories I've heard are true). Frequently put into combat as a high ability QRF or task force when such things are needed though, again, most of what you hear about this from are second hand accounts from people who happened to be in the right place at the right time and got to see the living legends themselves. I can only guess at what the routine day in the life of an SOF soldier truly is like as they are pretty good at blending in with civilian and soldier alike until they need to do otherwise.
Even if firefly is pushing the envelope farther than I've ever thought I would see it realistically pushed, I feel you've still kept it in the realm of possibilities since SOF is nothing if not an envelope pusher.
Firefly was too pissed at her commanders to see that they may have just wanted to know if Cindermane was trying to recruit at all and not just her unit specifically. Nevertheless, I always love it when people yell at their bosses.
