Surprise Halloween Update!
Wanna hear something real spooky? Back during Desert Storm (the real one), back in the early nineties, American troops encountered the Iraqi Republican Guard out in the desert. The US forces had Abrams tanks and Bradley IFVs. The latest and greatest, with all the most recent upgrades.
The Iraqis had an assortment of outdated Soviet T-72s, T-62s, and T-55s. They'd emplaced themselves in earthen bunkers, expecting the US forces to arrive from the roads, rather than from the other direction, which was miles and miles of trackless desert.
The Iraqi forces didn't anticipate one recent technological advancement that changed everything. Global Positioning System satellites. These enabled US forces to easily navigate in terrain with no landmarks. The Iraqi forces were caught by surprise. Small formations of Abrams tanks happened upon them and immediately began hitting them with sabot fire, their Chobham armor shrugging off multiple hits from the obsolete MBTs. One of the largest tank battles of modern times, the Battle of 73 Easting, was underway. By the end of it, it was a complete rout, with hundreds of Iraqi tanks burning and minimal American losses.
When the American troops and tank crews got out of their vehicles, their glee at their victory was blunted by the horror of what they'd done. The desert smelled like cooked human flesh.
Armored vehicles are not just machines. They are a symbiosis of machine and crew. One always needs the other. When you're shooting at tanks, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that there are people inside them.

An excellent chapter, and message. Good work mate. Fantastic really.
Probably one of the best chapters so far, especially the descriptions in battle without going into crazy long explanations that would slow down the pacing!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

I’ve had this one planned for a long while. Charger combat takes place at a breakneck pace, so I thought it would only be fitting if the narrative was a bit more laconic in the descriptions to keep things moving.
Chargers, Assault Walkers, and Battlesuits pay homage to a lot of different mecha and cyberpunk canons. Armored Core, Battletech, Macross, Gundam, Patlabor, Zoids, Code Geass, Broken Blade, Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Armored Trooper Votoms, and so on. I heartily recommend all of the above, of course.
Looks like Silassa made a little oopsie, and now, the ELF have intel on the Djinn. I wonder how that will pan out?
That was intense
Ah yes, horse mechs, just what I need, also the pony's that are being rallied by storm, oh no, oh fuck, Peer pressure in a herd species. Just as effective in non herd species
I'm pretty sure its storage not stowage
I'm oddly reminded of big O
He's a smart guy
I like this guy 😁🤣.
Well shit... I didn't expect the confederacy to lobotomized their tech for they're own use
It's not the only thing they've done illegally to the equestrians

Storing and stowing are two different things, actually. To store means to add an item to storage, generally. To stow something means to add it in a particular place on a vehicle, usually such that it does not move or shift around. To complicate matters, the word stowage also refers to a physical volume of available space; the stowage of a ship is the size of the compartments available to stow things.
You store items in a warehouse. You stow baggage on an airplane, or ammunition in a battle tank or mech.
Oh... fuck.. christ on a bike.. that's just so sick and wrong on so many levels... I'm trying not to throw up
I just assumed they used all the captured ponies as pleasure toys or as pets.. this is so much worse then I thought
Seriously???? They're still around???
Huzzah!!!! The rebellion grows!!!
I was literally dreading something bad would happen at the end of the chapter. I'm glad I was wrong
This is by far the BEST CHAPTER EVER!!!
Is there any fanart for this? If not there definitely needs to be some fanart
Whatever happened to the AI that was on the station? I know they got it back but what did they do with it?

As Layer Cake stated in Record 07, Scheherazade's core went straight to the very top of the ELF. AI specialists working directly under Admiral Crusher have her in their possession.

No fanart as yet, but I did commission 1Jaz a few times.

Oh wait, you saw 'em!
I sent 1Jaz some reference sketches I made. The look of Chargers certainly pays homage to Masamune Shirow, Yutaka Izubuchi, Shoji Kawamori, and so on. When I picture them in my head, that's the kind of thing that emerges.
The Charger lived up to all I was hoping it would be. My only surprise was how seemingly fragile it was, but then I remembered that it's one of the lightest Chargers and it made a little more sense.
Storm finally gets to be in her element. And damn is she good at being a pilot.

Indeed. A few things to note: the Mirage A202 is a mere 37 metric tons, or only a couple tons heavier than a CV90 Mk. III. It’s actually quite well-protected for how light it is, and it’s on the heavy side for a Courser. The lightest Coursers are much lighter than the Mirage, and can’t take nearly as much punishment, but they’re also a little smaller. The Mirage is right on the border of being a Rouncey.
The hull and head of the Mirage A202 are about the length of two IFVs placed end-to-end. LAMIBLESS is very light. It has a density comparable to carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, allowing for very large armored cowlings made from it to weigh almost nothing. If the Mirage A202 had, for instance, Chobham armor (angled ceramic plating under steel), it would be like 60 to 80 tons at the bare minimum. Imperial armor tech is very advanced for Chargers to be as durable as they actually are for their size, and yet, LAMIBLESS plating still comes apart under sustained enemy fire. It’s designed to be a consumable item, removed from the frame and replaced after battle. LAMIBLESS is basically sheets of laminated graphene solidified by a synthetic version of Changeling resin, which is much stronger than modern epoxy or phenolic resins. It is extremely stiff and enchanted to be basically fireproof, but it’s also ductile enough that it doesn’t shatter easily. It would be fair to say that it performs like an extremely advanced carbon fiber composite material, at less than half the density of steel. It’s good stuff, but it’s not impervious.
As a Courser pilot, Storm needs to be good. If you’re not good, you’re dead. Coursers are very unforgiving to those who don’t know how to use hit-and-run tactics. The 40mm CT gun is a bit more powerful than modern-day 40mm projectiles, like in the 40mm Bofors or 40mm CTA guns, simply because of the CycloHex explosive fill, but it still takes multiple hits to get through enemy armor, especially their front armor. Also, the HBCs are powerful, but also volatile, and the ones used on Coursers take a long time to cycle due to the limited capacitor mass and heat dissipation capabilities. Generally speaking, the Mirage A202 is a self-propelled AA gun, surface-to-surface missile artillery piece, and tank destroyer in one. The pilot needs to be very careful to choose the right weapon for the right situation. Enemies far away, like up 40 kilometers or so? Launch the SSMs and jettison the disposable box launchers. Now, the Mirage has ceased to be artillery and is a direct-fire support vehicle, so the next step is to move into close range (less than 1 to 2 kilometers) and provide anti-air backup to friendlies while also blowing up enemy tanks with the casters.
The Mirage A202 is multi-functional, but it comes at a price. They have a very limited ammunition supply for their missiles and autocannons, but basically infinite ammo for the casters. An unsupported Mirage pilot needs to husband their ammo very carefully. A supported one, like Storm in this particular battle, can hose down anything they want, and then RTB for more. The important thing to keep in mind is that the Mirage is an assassin. A rogue class. A back-stabber. Most Chargers are fast for mechs; even Destriers can exceed the top speed of an Ifrit by a great deal. However, the typical Courser is insanely fast. Most Coursers can easily reach over 200 kilometers an hour, and the Mirage is particularly fast, topping out at around 320.

I guess I've never heard the word stowage before
How'd you come up with the idea's and concepts for this fanfic?

I’ve been a mecha and mil-SF enthusiast for a long, long time. I also do a lot of reading of scientific research papers and white papers and stuff.

Sounds interesting. I meant more about the lore of the world and everything that happened because I would love to know more what happened before or after the zeppelin wars
Well, I can say it only took me a 2 years decode one of these. Praise ChatCTP for figuring out the first half. Too bad that's as far as it got.
