For the past millennium, the small and technologically-advanced Equestrian Empire has waged war against the old and corrupt Cleomanni Confederacy, employing weapons of terrifying might in their struggle. It has been three years since they lost.

Ooof! I used to pride myself on my fairly consistent updating schedule. Sorry this one took so long.
Nothing to take the wind out of a writer's sails like prepping for a once-in-a-century pandemic, am I right?
Stay safe out there, everyone!

My Little War Crime, My Little War Crime, Aaaah-aaah-aaah-aaah,
My Little War Crime, I used to wonder how this shit could be,
My Little War Crime, until you all went to prison with me,
Big invasions, tons of fun, an exposed heart and bit of lung,
Sharing rations, it’s an easy feat, and cholera makes it all complete,
You have My Little War Crimes,
Don’t you know you’re gonna get waterboarded again?
Heh. Sorry. Force of habit.
Couldn't help but notice you’ve got yourself a new username. I’ll miss the old username and image but this new one is pretty cool. What brought that on if you don’t mind me asking?

I dunno. I figured it was time for a change of pace, I guess.
What did you think about the latest chapter? Some bombshells got dropped.

Good eye. I was indeed going for a bit of deconstruction, there.
Grimdark is interesting from that perspective. I mean, these characters could have immensely better lives than the ones they've got, but instead, they're put through the wringer. For what? Pathos? Is there some deeper connection, there? What does it really mean to see someone at the lowest point in their life?
I always found grimdark stories deeply cathartic, for some reason. Some may find them much too unsettling, and honestly, I can understand their point of view, but I've always found them oddly liberating.

Yes certainly things have been ramped up a bit. One thing I liked was how Storm seemed to patch things up with Commodore Cake and how she seemed to forgive Storm.
10182504
Indeed. Much of what the Commodore told Storm was said in the heat of the moment, soon after one of her best friends had died. Layer Cake was looking for someone to scapegoat—anyone, really—and she settled on Storm. After her anger wore off, the Dragoon realized that both of them were hurting and both shared a common foe.
Very interesting reveal there. So the Cleomanni are actually the ones responsible for releasing the Archons on everyone?
Actually, now that I'm thinking on it, it's rather strange that we're getting two sources for them. The Humans and the Cleomanni. I'm guessing from the reference to Humans as makers, that the Cleomanni were either an artifically created slave-race, or that Human tech is on the level of the lauded sci-fi 'precursors'.
10202295
Aye, good guesses. Actually, it was the fault of the Nemrin, one of the few other magical species in the galaxy, but we haven't seen them, yet. They're kinda reclusive.
10202901
Oh, I misread the Nemrin as a sect, not a race. Are these the guys who were mentioned way back at the start? The other source of Magi tech?
10203438
Yep, that's them. The only legal source of magical tech in the FTU, by the way, and mostly because their stuff frequently deals in anti-magic. The Confederacy deemed them too important to get rid of. After all, what if another, "rogue" magical species shows up?
I just discovered this fic and blitzed through it over the past few days. Really fantastic world-building and a story that has me fully invested. The tone of it kind of reminds me of Project Horizons, in that the entire world just seems set up to beat the protagonist down with little cause for hope. Can't wait to see this story play out.
Well damn. I'm surprised they lost against numerical superiority when they were more technologically advanced. I'm definitely interested on how this plays out time to read!!
YES!!! I KNEW IT!!
I'll miss him too.
"She he had me?" That's weird
Is this starcraft now??
That's scary
Oh!! So there is a mole? I had a feeling there was one
Reminds me of that one song made by madness called it must be love
No wonder they are hell bent of war. Because they modeled after the shitty humans
Jeez talk about extreme paranoia. No wonder they saw innocent ponies as evil creatures
Now I'm reminded of the mind flayers from dnd
I really liked the bit with twilight. Gives a nice insight during the war
My god!! This story is so fucking amazing! I cant believe it's been going for 2 years and only has 60 likes!? Its totally underrated. I'd kill to have a physical copy. I'd love to see a comic for this story or hell I'd love this this get animated. I love this story so much!! Keep up the amazing work!
Ya know I was really hoping that we'd have fucked up Aeldari style with magic, unleashing dark gods on ourselves by accident. Sucks that Humanity too dabbled in the ol'slave race thing. Hopefully we get the friendship beam of evil-unfuckery, and patch this up to live happily ever after in the amazing galaxy that you've created GNO. Amazing work mate by the way, fucking gripping writing.

Yeah… friendship beam… OF DEATH!!!
