And it continues to get weird, builds up, then you slap us with that mixed downer of an ending... An entire elementary school? And with how most people got converted... *shudders* Yeah, I'm gonna stop thinking about it as well.
Centaur William! SS Class!

Looks like you win the inspiration contest as we have an Alicorn centaur with two pony heads. One mare head, one ambiguous head. No mirrors still, so I guess it'll be a bit before we get a description that isn't a passing comment from a third party.
I don't believe The Gift's buzz was described as having died down, so there is always room for 'improvement', methinks.
And it looks like we are going to be introduced to foals. I'm not sure if I want to know or not, really, with what was implied by Crystal. Still, it's an open question; what do you do with a bunch of foals? Crystal's Herd is the first glimpse of what a civilization with The Gift might be like. Only superficially resembling Equestrian society I imagine. It's void twisted after all.
William and Cindy (I wonder if they'll change their name(s)?) still have a few things left to do, even besides the whole council thing:
Magic training (they don't know teleport after all) -- All types, though apparently they can do some Earth Pony stuff automatically.
More trying to expand and master their powers as a 'special'.
Also, what will happen to Will now that his head is transformed, and he has the essence of Cadestia? He certainly has the Love aspect down so far.
If all the ponies (here at least) Seem a little too screw happy, it might be best to actually give them those mirrors since higher intelligence would make them think beyond near-animal levels of intelligence. I wonder how big Will/Cindy are now. a pony sized centaur one would hope, or that's be one rough ride.
So it seems Sandra has reached the final stage: cutie mark and full acceptance even with intact intelligence
i wonder how long it'll be before Will/Cindy get theirs. Bonus points if Will's half the body gets a different mark than Cindy's half.
Hermaphrodite Centaur Alicorn, but did the breasts stay or turn into teats? His upper body proportion?
Specifics! Nao
Huh, not many people actually go into what happens to the children. Almost every zombie movie/game I've seen just glosses over the children unless they are part of the main characters family.
A good chapter overall, particularly in terms of clop.
One nitpick:
Crystal asks the question, then immediately asks another question, cutting off the chance for an answer, and so the question is simply unaddressed, not even a mention of William pausing to consider without answering, or giving a dismissive shrug. I've seen this come up in our collabs at times, and I'm probably guilty of it as well at times. At best, I can just assume the question is rhetorical. (Though, I don't know if Crystal knows, but William actually can make a fairly informed answer to that, since he can now sense the 'gift's activity level and predict somewhat reliably whether a person has more ponification coming.)
6028866 He/she still has breasts, and probably has an under-belly ones too back there, but someone will have to peek and check. Not there there's any lack of volunteers around.
6028910 You haven't even seen my final form!
6028865 William is the Celestia to their ponies, in terms of size difference. Sandra had a wild ride, but they are basically made for each other, and the other ponies looked like they'd accept the price of that ride, if Will wanted more action.
6028910
Crystal probably thinks it's his final form, but I personally hope he will end up with the upper body also becoming pony, making him some sort of six-legged alicorn monster.
We'll see with time.
6028969
Is it going to be like Sepheroth's? You know, after being badass, weird badass, and vaguely religious badass, he goes to... kinda normalish, and able to be one-shotted for the ultimate anticlimax?
I have the distinct feeling that this still isn't William's final form. I'm not sure if he's ever going to have one. (On that note, is his original head still humanoid?)
Also, the first cutie mark on Earth, perhaps? That's definitely going to bear looking into once the afterglow wears off.
6029161 He's a pony now, through and through, except, you know, having human arms and torso attached to a pony body. He looked a fair bit less silly at least, what with the fur matching his pony face.
6028865
I think full intelligence is a requirement, since all the other ponies appear to be happy with what they are, but without the intelligence to back it up. Lone Wing had some large self loathing moments in his partial lucidity.

I hope this Duchess dies by a .50 caliber bullet to the head. That or I can somehow reach into the story and go full on Jason Voorhees on her ass.

Well, sometime they are going to have to peak out and when they do, DEATH FROM ABOVE!
Ooo, a ponytaur, cool. I see he also grew a muzzle?
6029576 Two-headed, hermaphroditic, ponytaur, with two pony heads.
6029491
Maybe s/he saw where the wind was blowing, and did it the hugs and kisses way to save the children sanity and/or lives since s/he 'survived' that way...?
...
Yeah, I'm sadly not buying that explanation either.
6029660
Either way, it's stabbing time.

You and your typo jokes, David.
6029619
It'd be Will's luck that he's a democrat and Cindy ends up a Republican.
6029504
As much as I love our military, you give them too much credit. We're talking about the entire length and breadth of the US here. The military's good, but they aren't omniscient. Especially since their targets are human sized, and already spread thin by other locations of the infection.
edit: they can't really ID WIll/Cindy as an S class from a satellite either since there are other just as weird mutations, so our ponytaur wouldn't stand out as much as you think.
6032624
Two words: Heat signatures.
6032768
And? all animals give off heat signatures, humans and machinery included.
Again, we talking about the entirety of the US. There is no magic radar or heat detector that can zero in on Will/Cindy unless someone planted a transponder on them.
6032791
Heat signatures are a lot more accurate than blobs.
I don't know about you, but a "ponytaur" will stick out.
I wasn't talking about a satellite either. I was talking about drones.
media.dma.mil/2009/Mar/17/2000608254/-1/-1/0/090127-F-7383P-001.JPG
If an S-Class is really that important they'll spare whatever resources they can to search and destroy it if necessary. Using drones they'll begin searching for William where he first appeared and begin searching outward. Also, before you use the argument "but the ponies might attack the drones." No, it's not human nor a living being that can be converted.
Get close to it? Most likely.
Attack it? No.
They have the brain of a child and rely on instincts. I think "big flying grey bird with a spinning blade in the back" they would avoid. I also doubt a Pegasus could bring down a drone in mid-flight anyway.
6033671 Why would they know to look for a ponytaur?
6033685
I think something like that's gonna warrant some attention.
Woo, centaur!
That's pretty cool, I don't think I've ever seen a fic featuring a centaur main character.
6033671
I... I don't seem to believe you are getting my primary point. Yes, night vision and drones work well, but it's still the entire US we're talking about here. It's almost 3 million square miles. You could even add Canada into this since the ponies wouldn't care about national borders anymore and that's adding another 3.8 million. A fleet of drones would be hard pressed to scan 6.8 million square miles. Assuming they even know the ponytaur is a priority target.
Add to the fact that the military is either A: spread completely thin across the entire nation, or B: having to concentrate their forces into smaller areas, and thus could be completely absent from Will/Cindy's location.
Yes, it is possible the drones could get lucky, but i seriously think is it far too early to start sending out drones on hunter-killer missions. the military's priority at this point should be damage control. Once the uninfected are secure, then they go out hunting. But that's months if not years down the line if the infection is as wide spread as we're lead to believe.
6034475
Yes I am, all I am saying is what drones can do. There is the slim chance of one finding him with the objective of killing him.
Both A and B sound like logical scenarios. However, it does not mean that William is in a safe zone. They could be stumbled upon by a random group of military personal heading towards a rondevu or they could be close to where military forces are massing.
It would be a good idea for using drones to take out large groups of ponies and thin out the numbers of infected behind enemy lines.
Actually, it should be evacuating civilians to refuge camps a distance away from infected areas along with recruiting anyone who volunteers. That and killing off or containing as many infected as possible along with destroying any access way for which ponies can get close to unaffected civilian areas. Something like what happened in L4D 2. A large bridge separating the infected areas from the not so infected ones gets blown to shit.
Too speed up the process they would need to use a lot of air sorties to wipe out large amounts of infected via airstrikes and carpet bombing. Then the infantry can pick off any survivors.
know
Imagine if hypothetically, it was one boy the, rest girls, would that make it 'Lord of the Fillies'?
