Thanks again!
I'd thought about having her do that, but because of the way the table and chairs were set up in the narrow wagon aisle, she really wouldn't have been able to do so without a lot of effort, and then that would have just felt awkward and forced.
Now I want to try a durian. Scratch that, I need to try a durian.
And I was wondering who the unexpected company would be. My initial bet was one or two of Twilight's friends, getting suspicious about why Twilight was spending so much time there. I did not expect those two.

I did title it "Unexpected Company" after all!
Heh, read the 'Initiation' story before, else I'd have had no idea what a Durian was before this.
A good chapter, I am happy that Twilight's speech was only moderately well received by Trixie. It didn't make her feel better at all, but perhaps that wasn't Twilight's intent. Twilight is the Princess of Friendship and all, but it looks like she is still kinda bad at figuring out how to reassure, or make somepony feel better. Like Moon said, I think contact like a hug would have worked out a bit better in the short run, though Twilight's explanation may help in the long run, when Trixie is in a better state of mind.
If she's ever in a better state of mind, sounds like she lost alot of herself over time as other ponies eroded her confidence.
The first part of this chapter really surprised me, just in the fact that she's apparently been here for...I guess two months or so? I kept thinking she'd only been in Ponyville, maybe two weeks. And the rain cloud always over her trailer? Dash is a bastard sometimes, though funny. At least, I shall assume it was her doing for now.
Man, everypony seems more interested in the salamander then Trixie, kinda funny. I wonder if the Princesses are here to send it back to its world, see if its dangerous, or try to understand if what Twilight probably told them is true. I guess Twi got home, wrote a letter to the princesses, and then this sudden visit is the result of it. Curious to see how/if Twilight will be able to get Trixie back to a state of living, as opposed to simply surviving.
The visit with the two Princesses may help, though I can't help but wonder more of what Twi has planned for their date at her palace. Heh, not sure how Trixie will be with coming face to face with the fact that the mare she seems to be crushing on has a palace. One thing to think it, and another to see it, or be in it, and then compare it to your own home. Eh, I'm rambling again.
One thing that bugs me:
"glamer" should be spelled as "glamour".

5675665 My bad, I was always told that it was spelled glamour. It just looks wrong like otherwise, I keep wanting to pronounce it glaymur.
Actually, looking further into it, glamour seems to be a more modern spelling of the same. So neither is wrong.

Yeah, Twilight still doesn't have the "figure out how to make a pony feel better" thing down pat yet. There really isn't any way to flowchart that out, after all. But her heart sure is in the right place. And it did have an effect on Trixie; for the first time since she's arrived in Ponyville she actually felt like just sitting outside her wagon and relaxing with a cup of coffee. Foal steps maybe, but steps nonetheless.
In the second chapter it states that Twilight had been, ah, watching Trixie "for several months". Although I haven't specifically stated times (yet, anyway; a situation might come up where that gets stated) Trixie arrived at Ponyville mid-summer, and it's now late fall, so a period of just over four months has elapsed.
As to the hovering raincloud, well . . . the truth will come out later, but, really . . . yes . . . it was RD. And yes, she can be a bit of a bastard at times can't she? Let's just say that, at some point in the future, she's going to feel like as real louse for having done that.
What? Twilight write a letter as soon as she got home about some sort of new magical discovery that potentially has major implications? Oh pshaw!
Please, continue!
I never considered any of your posts as "rambling", not by any means, and comments help assure me I'm not confusing people, or getting the wrong point across, and they also help me become a better writer, as well. Speaking of wrong points . . .
I spent more time than I planned on Twilight's explanations about magics, various Disciplines, etc. Other than borrowing some terms, that's pretty much my own creation. Did it make sense? Was it believable (inasmuch as anything based on fantasy is believable )
Sooo, new magical discovery that may completely change understanding of summoning (and binding) magic/spells and founding/having new friendship with non-equine species, which sort/kind was never heard of before (friendship not species)....Does that mean that when princesses leave, Trixie will have new fancy wings?

Then I shall ramble a little more then.
I suppose this means that Trixie is poor at one, or both of those. I don't remember her having particular issues with either of these in the show, or any major mention of her being poor at them in this story, but I may have missed it. Or, perhaps, Trixie's wince is the first indication Twi has that Trixie is poor at one of those two.
This part is interesting, as Trixie doesn't seem to have that much aptitude, or power. While its true she was shown to know a myriad of different spells as opposed to other Unicorns in both the show and the comics, she didn't seem that strong with them. I wonder if it is mainly due to a lack of training or effort on her part...but if in school she put as much pride in herself as she does in her shows I can't see her not doing her all to learn everything there is to learn on using her magic to its highest potential. Makes me wonder what went wrong with her more. If she went to the school, and had this training in all 7 fields of magic, then why is she unable to transmute at all? Is it that she is weak in all the fields past illusion, but if so, why would Twilight make it sound like its a big deal, and why would she be trained in all of them at school if she was weak in them? I'd say, at least for me, the talks on magic and Trixie's potential bring up more and more questions. IS she actually capable in all the fields like Twilight claims? And if so, why IS she not trained well in them, despite going to the same school as Twi, and her seeming past desire to be the greatest Unicorn in Equestria?
I'm beginning to think that Twilight's 'discrete and small' looks into Trixie's past at the academy entails several books worth of information that she managed to get from eye witness accounts, the teachers, and anypony else she was able to question about Trixie's time at the academy. Admittedly, with Twilight, that amount of knowledge gathering and research could constitute just a 'little peek'. Can't imagine what she's going to be doing to get detailed information.
So, I like the explanation you have for magic, the schools of it, etc, etc. It makes me wonder what happens when a pony is found to have a particularly strong aptitude for necromancy, are they told to just ignore it, even if its something they are inherently good at, are the removed from society, or are they taught a form of necromancy that is tolerated/accepted? Like, perserving corpses for funeral homes, or keeping organs fresh for transplants, or things like that? Not expecting it to matter in this story at all, just my own curiousity on world building.
But yeah, as I've said before, I am enjoying this story, and the interactions between Twi and Trixie. I am quite curious on how/if Twi is going to continue to help Trixie get back to who she was, if she even wants to become that pony again. While it does seem inherently wrong for Trixie not to be boastful and take pride in herself, change isn't bad either. Though I suppose I would compare Trixie's changes in this story to Fluttershy's changes due to Iron Will's seminar. Its unhealthy for her, and ruining what she has as well as ruining her chances of getting anywhere now.
Looking forward to seeing whats next, and not sure what I wish to see most. Will Celestia and/or Luna really concern themselves with Trixie at all, or simply regard the salamander, or perhaps even mess with her more unknowingly? *The road to hell is paved with good intentions after all, and it wouldn't be hard for one of the princesses to tease, or ask the wrong question to set Trixie back down her even more depressed road Twilight has just started to nudge her off of.*
What does Twilight have planned for their date at the castle? Does she want more than 'friendship' from Trixie? It seems so, but Trixie is so in her own shell that even with how obvious Twilight's reactions to Trixie has been, she is probably missing all of the signs. After all, Trixie considers herself not worth anypony's time now, let alone that of a Princess, who she probably considers better than her in every way.
That's enough rambles, stories to edit, and my own to try to get going, good luck!
Wait hold up I'm confused, is Twilight the one saying that? Why'd she say it like that?
Durians are fascinating fruit. Their scent is as a result of 50 separate chemical compounds found in the fruit, and how one reacts to the taste is like cilantro, entirely based on genetics.
