It's very nice to see you didn't take the cheap way out there and had the characters stick to their guns. There's a difference between a client and commitment to Richard, and he makes that very clear here. I'm very curious to see how things are going to turn out between Lily and Rose now. One talk down, another to go...
I do hope that Lily and Rose will still find a way together somehow! How glorious that could yet be...
6125359 I really want to reply to this with something thought-provoking, but I really want everyone reading to agonize over that!
I will say this: there are quite a few ways to resolve this, and I will admit one thing, I really, really enjoy writing F/F -- perhaps more than is healthy.
We both knew that a pony’s heart can be in two or three or many places at once, but a human’s can only be in one place.
That may be true for Richard, but not for all humans, it is entirely possible for some humans to have true love with more than one person. Sorry had to point that out. I mean even still using ponies for an example, there are several ponies I wouldn't mind doing, and there are some that I would like to have relationships with, even if I have to share them, but the flip side is that with humans I can't, I would be a one person type of man, and I would expect the same. Yet, I know when it comes to the mares of Tellis, or Equis, whatever you call it, I don't think I could be entirely tied down, I would always be honest, and not hide anything with the mare I was with but I probably wouldn't be someone that would settle down with just one mare. Of course I think that has to do with the fact I wouldn't be able to have kids with the mares, and I want a large family.
6126363 Fair enough. The meaning was to convey the idea that people are culturally monogamous. As far as Richard is concerned, he has no desire for more than one mate in a relationship. He's had more than his fair share of mare partners at this point to care about herd life. As Firesight said below, his hookups and his serious relationships are kept separate.
Don't get me wrong, I completely understand your point, but we haven't seen this dilemma surface in a Gentlemanverse story yet. I'm as interested as any of the people reading to see how this resolves itself. Think about it: on the one hand, you've got a pony who is so forward about sex that she feels it's part of her very identity as a mare. Hell, she's even discovered love for other mares! On the other, a man who's, by all accounts, her equal in the bedroom and yet can only find love for her.
I better not make this suck or I'll never forgive myself.
6126400 that makes a lot of sense and it does make a lot of sense, I was just saying that the comment I quoted wasn't 100% true, not complaining though I would love to see how this resolves itself, though my personal opinion, if he truly loves her, he may have to sacrifice a bit, Rose Luck loves her friend probably as much as she loves Richard...
Yeah I get what you mean by not making it suck, I have moments like this in my story, things that titter on an edge, either it is perfect, it fails to give the message you are trying to give, or it's over done. I wish you luck!
6130089 Funny you should say that. I actually did start writing a fic with Linky as the lead that almost no one read! If you liked Linky -- and a search through the comments proves you to be the only person who does -- check out Siege of Castle Harmony. I'll warn you though, it isn't as well written as this. I'd really like to shut SoCH down and rebuild it from the ground up later. All in due time...
This is getting fascinating. Rare to see a love triangle in these kinds of stories that isn't sorted simply by the herd option. Really looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
6130330 I've got mixed feelings about herding. Well, not really. I hate it. Blame Xeno for basically imposing it on Lero without any attempt at sorting out the emotional implications for this alien creature who just turned up on Equestria, turning his entire life upside down. For all we know, he only accepted based on the idea that losing Rainbow Dash would destroy the one anchor he has in this strange new world...
The entire affair reminds me of Isaac marrying Leah before Rachel in Genesis ch. 29 in the Bible with Rachel in the role of the jerk uncle — with ponies.
That doesn't mean I don't respect it, which is why I make a point of showing Roseluck displaying a biological lean towards the practice, not liking it or not. Whatever problems herding has in this verse, ponies are still arranging themselves into these social structures and that needs addressing.
When things at work calm down and I'm not working six-day 50+ hour work weeks, I'll get back to writing this. Might be a few weeks before chapter 11 is ready.
6144794 That is really fast. My editor was actually recommending for 50 MPH, but I scaled back. 40 isn't unobtainable at a sprint, 55 being the world record, but 25-30 is more realistic for a terran horse gallop. Since, these are magical talking earth ponies with increased strength and hardiness, I'd let it pass.
6145560 Acknowledging the fact that Canada does like to poke fun at us when the opportunity arises.
6146199 I'm assuming that there are negotiations between Canada and Canadiegha? We need a bonus chapter or a one-shot on that!
If she's running in the double digits for MPH, how the fuck is Richard able to keep up. I get that he's fit, but the vast majority of humans wouldn't be able to keep up with her at all. Or maybe I'm miss interpreting the speeds. I am much more familiar with the metric system after all.
Though not as swift a runner as Linky, I could easily run at a brisk forty miles per hour at full gallop. Tonight, all dressed up and in an unfamiliar forest, the slow human was able to keep up.
She never achieved anything remotely close to 40 MPH. I grant you, this scenario needs elaborating on and I'll take the hit for not being more clear. Thanks for catching that!
Edit: New line,
Though not the swiftest runner in Ponyville, I could no doubt run circles around Richard at full gallop on level ground and with a good view ahead of me.
Despite RD's hatred of G4M why can I see her deciding to go through with it, and given her... reputation, she winds up getting Stuntman? The look on her face when Richard shows up would be priceless!

6125529 calls for two ending chapters xDD
6126180 I'm pretty sure I'll have some bonus material.

I love stories like this - a big pile of world building with a squishy topping of feels.
How did it take me so long to stumble over it?
I'm probably the sole nutter in the audience here, but I would completely eat up a side-fic with Linky as the character focus.

Edit: New line,
6147800 It's what I do.
6165259 Thanks, and I have to agree: its the best part of the entire story by far. I should really stick to pony F/F in the future.
Despite RD's hatred of G4M why can I see her deciding to go through with it, and given her... reputation, she winds up getting Stuntman? The look on her face when Richard shows up would be priceless!
A week alone with Pinkie Pie in heat?
Welll that's different, and a bit welcome. Way to have Richard stick to his morals. Although...
I kinda disagree with this statement, especially in this 'verse, seeing as there are herds with humans in them around.
But hey, if things don't work out With Rose, I'm sure Dash'll still be willing
Now I want a rainbow dash x Richard ship!
That was kinda heavy at the end. Got my heart going.
Sadly, Richard didn't want to accept the herd life. Shame.
