It's chapters like this that make this story so painful. To know that deep down, Cadence is still a kind, caring pony that wants to do the right thing. It throws her other actions into stark contrast, and makes those scenes all the more uncomfortable to read. She makes for a surprisingly good sympathetic villain-protagonist.
At least Cadance still has her priorities straight when pony Sauron comes a-knocking. Not all days can be filled with spouse husbandry.
Of course, after this, she'll have a slavishly devoted city-state full of ponies who have dealt with much worse than a ruler with unique courting methods. This might have turned out very well for Cadance. As it is... well, that remains to be seen.
