I wish I had a sense of whether she wrote this to be tongue in cheek. She's going to refute the common mix-up of rock versus mineral, but not about minerals being edible? She'd know differently. Thousands of minerals are edible (sylvite and ice immediately come to mind). They wouldn't all taste good, but they're not dangerous to ingest. And if she's going to be technical, halite is a salt.

In high school a girl in my class was mercilessly made fun of for asking, in a science class then covering geology, "Is ice a rock?" I suspect she got a raw deal -- but then, I also suspect she wasn't demonstrating any marvelous mineralogical insight.
I love these things. They rock
Wait, so does that mean Maud likes salt? Or not? Ooo so ambiguous.
Actually, there's also that rock she discovered that formed the base ingredient of Pinkie's rock candy...
"And they call ME pedantic..."
Wait. Doesn't this imply that Pinkie Pie's rock candy is colored, sugared hunks of salt?

I remember eating “rock” salt off the ground. It’s not half bad.
