And here I was expecting Malice to be insulted the Stable rejected her invitation to tea time.
As with previous chapters, I love Alloy's narration. A solid character with her cute thought patterns, and what's more, happy to see her finally tell the reader about her past and motives.
Also happy to see her act on the offer to improve her fighting skills.
And a moment of silence for the fallen, Pillar in particular, the magnificent ole grouch.
And kudos for making Malice an intelligent villain who doesn't mindlessly go out of her way impulsively maximizing brutality.
Nope, quick and efficient solutions for minor menaces suffice!
10/10 Story, I especially loved the part where Alloy and Malice have a romantic dinner by fisher light.

Yes! That's the best part!
it's finally here! Be still my heart.
It might take a few years, but I have no doubt that the Stable will eventually be dug out. The only unfortunate part is that fact that it will likely take longer than was planned for the Stable's reopening.

Unless of course Malice was crafty and got the door welded shut or stuck.
Then they're in there forever.
Or until somebody comes along with an air hammer and torch.
Or a unicorn teleports in.
Or they go out the escape tunnel.
Ok so maybe not so much stuck as simply having all the time they need to prepare for Grit to marry Alloy.
Welp. One less source of income for Alloy Shaper’s Smithy.
No! This story is just like bacon! I always want more after I'm done.
I do not have a healthy diet.
Nice chapter.
I was expecting another confrontation with Malice, may come later. Also, there's something going on with Kyra. I'm pretty sure she serve several agenda.^^
I wonder what Malice is planning?
Oh, baby, you're too kind with these updates, Ham. This remains my favorite FO:E spinoff fic by a wide margin, and every chapter is just as much a treat as the last. I don't know how you do it, but please don't stop!
Well Malice certainly didn't take to being snubbed very lightly.
I suppose the Stable could still be dug out from either side. But still... What a pain and what an annoying amount of time spent to just get out of the hole Malice made. And still, if they unburry themselves, Malice might come back to do worst.
And I'm all caught up! ...so now I get to wait for a new chapter like everybody else.
I'm enjoying the low-level, non-combat-badass nature of this story, where a handful of raiders or a few ghouls are a major threat to life and limb. Alloy is definitely playing on hard mode.
Out of curiosity, do you pronounce Kyra as "kee-rah" or "kai-rah"?
Aaaand chapter 14 replies!
7401109
It was quite rude.
7401210
Thank you! The payoff of finally seeing into her past was something that, if I'm showing my cards a bit here, was a late addition to the Chapter. I'd always had the scene partially-written, tucked away somewhere, but unlike the painting scene or the end of chapter 10, it had a few different spots it could fit into the story. When I sat down to give Alloy and Grit this scene right before the big confrontation, this just felt like the right time.
And at last, she is training her fighting skills, yes. Maybe now she won't be so chaotic in fights!
Poor Pillar, indeed. I had a few other expository-lines in other chapters to give more info on him, but they were all cut prior. Poor guy.
Last but not least, I still maintain that Malice is so much fun to write.
7401235
Don't forget how the Caimon catered!
7402063
At-friggin-LAST. Four freaking months. I have no good excuse, either, even if this is the longest chapter.
7402074
Definitely will take some work, probably still doable. Maybe nobody digs 'em out.
7402467
Thank you! I certainly plan to.
7403128
All of this stuff. But then Alloy can't marry Malice! Or Grit marry Malice! Or Malice marry Gumbo!
7403215
Yeah, those jerks, kicking her out. Even barricaded the door.
7403604
I mean, I do have a Ph D in Pork Studies. This is my wheelhouse.
7403789
Maybe later! Kyra is fun to play with right now, looking forward to this.
7404340
Who knows? This is one of those few times where I love writing from a first-person perspective.
7404687
Thank you!! You're too kind, really, but I do not intend to stop, I promise you that. Chapters may take varying lengths of time, but I will not stop until it's done.
7407564
She has some reaction, that's for sure. At least they're... safe? Down there? I mean like you say, if they dig 'em out, Malice may come back. Or maybe not, who can say?
7415059
Reactions to this will always make me smile. There's a few other hints in earlier chapters, too, but most of them fairly buried.
7415086
I can neither confirm nor deny Grit's motivations in this, but I did grin. A lot.
And this. Gotta pause and say that I'm really quite glad you picked this out. The revolver has gone through an interesting transition of how Alloy refers to it, and yes, after some time she didn't have trouble referring to it as her own, but this particular reference to it I am quite glad you noticed.
7415355
I promise you, there will never be another wait as awful as this one was. But thank you! I'm really glad the low-combat character has appealed to you.
As for the pronunciation question, it's "Kee-rah." Both are valid ways to pronounce it as far as I'm concerned, but that's the way that our lil' grey Griffon says her name.
7419570
But of course! French waiters with all manners of classy moustaches, asking what mesdames would like.
7419570
I didn't really notice, since this latest chapter came out while I was still reading the previous ones. But I appreciate the promise anyway!
I expected Malice to be some sort of anti-hero and/or Alloy's lesbian lover type of character. I'm not so sure anymore...
Note to self, don't browse fan art before reading the story.
7466005
Hah, well I hope you enjoyed what you got, even if it wasn't what you expected.
ahhhh I've mostly disappeared from this site for a while on account of grad school and this was one of the few fics I was following that's continued to update in my absence ;_;
7466937
The parts with Malice have been really entertaining so far.
However, I saw this before reading the story and it kinda gave me false expectations.

7468587
Oh great now you made me imagine Alloy blushing and giggling like a fangirl as she's lured by the Fisher with a "call me xoxoxo" sign and I can't stop chortling!
7468587
Okay but serious talk now.
While browsing too much fan art, particularly of a fic's later memorable moments can lead to spoilers, I am certain the picture is clearly tagged "parody" and "crack ship", thus the viewer should be aware it should not be considered a 100% serious and accurate depiction of events and character interactions in the fic, hehe.
Malice and her gang just got a whole lot more scary.
She seems to be trying to round up talented and intelligent ponies, with her attempts to recruit Alloy and then the Stable 15 ponies. And now she has access to balefire weapons. At least it looks like she's going to be leaving Alloy alone since she killed Copper.
Anyway, great chapter overall. It's good to see Kyra getting plenty of screen-time. And I especially liked how Alloy's fight with the raider was written. It's very rare that we see her fight ponies, so when she does, it feels much more important than some of the fights in other FoE stories.
I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes. I can only guess at what Malice is trying to accomplish.
Realy like the Story, hope there is more to come.
I'd guess Malice knows just burying the stable door won't be a lasting solution, but wants to be sure she knows about it if anyone digs it out? Maybe she'll send someone to check on it every few weeks or so... At first, when the bomb was described, with the green glow, I was concerned that she'd set off something big enough to do a "bunker-buster" on the stable, but I can't see her wasting such a large potential resource as a stable when she still might capture it intact.
Malice was a good name for her.
If you don't mind me asking when the next chapter is going to be posted??
I really hope you are continuing this. I rather liked it.
Of the FO:E fics I've read, I only really liked a few, the original, Anywhere But Here, and I think I'm adding this one to the list.
PH was excessively dark for no real reason, and Heroes was way too poorly written (and I gave that a lot of chances).
But I think you have something good here. Keep it up!
I was just idly pondering the Fallout Equestria concept, and realized that some things that should be more precious and rare than gold and jewels hardly ever get any mention. Basic condiments like salt and pepper, or tea or coffee... stuff that would have to be transported thousands of miles to get from where they can be produced to the markets eager to buy them.
For instance, I live somewhere in the contiguous region of the united states, and in this entire region, there is only one type of native-growing plant that contains caffeine, and it's a kind of holly tree. In the event of an apocalyptic event, where would people here get coffee?
The pegasus ponies would make a killing smuggling that stuff. <You D@^~ Betcha!)
Oh jeez, there are comments I never replied to! I'm sorry!
7496137
I really am glad you're enjoying Kyra. She's such a fun and refreshing character to write, and I've been looking foward to her inclusion to shake up the dynamic between Alloy and Grit for a long time, pretty much since I started!
As for what Malice is planning... well, it seems like that's the question on everyone's mind, isn't it? In all seriousness, I've got some tantalizing stuff in the works for y'all who want more Malice.

Welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the prologue, honestly. I know it can put a lot of people off, but I always thought it important to show Alloy's day to day life at the start of the story, something to ground her. And hey, don't worry about whether your review/comment is better written than anyone else's. It really brightens my day to hear from any reader, no matter what. I sincerely hope the terrible update schedule for 2016 hasn't put you off horribly, but that will be corrected going forward.

Honestly, I always figured luxury goods like that were just abandoned wholesale. With most of the modern infrastructure gone and farming being a tricky prospect, I saw things like coffee being ditched for growing food.
I could definitely see a market for salt, though, assuming you have saltwater nearby that isn't irradiated, of course. Beyond just seasoning, salt is absolutely needed in the Wasteland for preservation. Definitely an interesting idea!

To all of you, I want to say again that I am truly sorry for how bad 2016 has been for Wasteland Economics. I don't have great excuses, but I will be posting weekly blogposts here on FiMFic and linked on my tumblr for future, so do keep an eye on either one of those. I aim to have Chapter 15 live on January 2nd, and I'll do this right this year.
Thank you all so much for your patience, and I hope you'll join me for the next installment of Wasteland Economics.
Oh wow! Nice story you got here, a true FEQ. Also your contribution of watching the wasteland through the eyes of a salesmare is quite refreshing.
I got surprised by Grits nature, also i liked how Aloy dealed with the reveleation
7828535 I know this is a late reply, but if you like anywhere but here you may also like Fo:E Duck and cover, its sequal, Fo:E make love not war and Fo:E Memories. Just a suggestion.

Well, that was a waste of a perfectly good bomb. Sure, the ponies are trapped inside Stable 15 now, but it’s not like the stable’s door is non-operational. It’ll take a long time but they can easily dig themselves back out again. It’d go even faster if Grit could put together a team of ponies to start digging from the outside too. So yeah, it was a waste of a perfectly good bomb.
I really though Malice would’ve been smarter than that. Oh well.

huge piles of rubble, likely huge chunks of concrete, rubble is probably pressed against the door, so it might be hard to open it properly without damaging it. No, not impossible, but they can pretty easily monitor the area, considering the project could take years with their resources and pony power, I imagine a raider sent every couple of months could find out if anyone is digging.
I know that it is just my romance to Malice talking, but I really think that they could have worked something out, one way or another, if the Stable ponies had just chosen to talk instead.
Wondering where the REVIEW TIME is? Too busy reading this chapters, all being just as magnificent as the last, so I will skip trying to make up some flowering words and go to the next one... Although I am slowly catching up with the newest chapter, sniffle!
