Metallic: Bronze and Brass

A Suitable Punishment:

Metallic paint for Dragons

Bronze and Brass

Three figures stood over body that laid limp on the dirt floor of the tunneled cavern. Light was near none existent this deep in a cavern, but the three were creatures known as Diamond Dogs, a race that was designed to live deep in the earth, with strong upper bodies and large forearms and paws for digging through solid rock and clay, a short snouted head filled with features for a life in the dirt.

They're ears were hypersensitive, to take in the surrounding vibrations underground so that when they dig they don't bump into each other, an nose for minerals of the earth, and eyes that could see with the faintest traces of light. Their jaws and teeth were strong enough to eat even diamonds, as jewels were their main form of nourishment. And oh, how do they love jewels.

One distinct probable though that the Diamond Dog race had begun to experience was an extreme case of laziness. They loved to eat jewels, it was their life goal to eat the biggest ones they could find, but it was so much work.

One of the more clever specimens of the breed came up with a solution to their dilemma. While Diamond Dogs were lazy, their above ground neighbors were not, ponies made great workers, so all they had to do was convince them to do the work for the dogs. Unfortunately for the ponies, 'convince' in Diamond Dog meant to brutally kidnap said race and force them through threats with large pointed sticks to do what they want.

While Diamond Dogs were not a very clever race, they were also not stupid, ponies tend to get mad when a bunch of them go missing, and that causes them to gang up. Diamond Dogs were strong, but there were many, many more ponies. So they took very few, a couple here and there, few enough to hide away, and far away enough keep suspicion from the main den.

So what was puzzling to these three Diamond Dogs, was why there was just a lone pony on the floor this far below ground. One they didn't bring.

"It trap." grunted the smallest of the three, it eyeing the unconscious pony suspiciously.

"How be trap? No other pony around. Maybe wandered?" The middle one suggested.

"Don't matter." The biggest and the leader of this small pack said. "Boss ordered us to get pony. We found pony. We take pony, Boss be happy. Maybe extra jewels for being quick." The big one drooled.

The middle one like this idea as well, as evident by it's tail starting to wag. The smaller one was not convinced.

"Not know where come from. I smell trouble." That got the other two's attention. The smallest ones' name was Sniff, and when his nose smelled trouble, he was usually right.

The big one, Named, Gruff. "Your nose wrong, where trouble be? It one pony."

Gruff was dead wrong.

................................................................................

In the shadows, watching the three stood quietly another figure, this one was also a pony, like the one that was now being picked up and being carried away by the ugly dog/troll thing.

Her coat was luxurious, even covered in dirt, a brass like color shown, her mane and tale had a similar color that turned to a reddish rust like color at the end. Her eyes, unlike other ponies, were her strangest feature, reptilian in design, and able to see in the piercing darkness.

Bassia cursed as Delepax started to be carried off. Her new body was small and weak, she was not sure what she could do to help the young Bronze Dragon turned pony. These creatures were obviously designed to be big, dense, and strong. Her unfamiliar form still tingled and ached from the reality transfer and transformation that went with it.

Her old body, strong and armored in Brass colored scales, could have easily scared away these creatures with just her presence. But now she was a small horse, and not even her magic worked, at least not like she wanted it to. She could still feel it, deep inside her, but it's purpose had changed to something foreign, new function she did not yet understand.

She would just have to wait for her chance, these creatures seemed slow witted, and far to focused on their find to notice her presence.

She followed them down the tunnel. Even with her severe disadvantage, she was still a dragon, and Delepax was still her friend, she was not going to just abandon him, not just yet.

................................................................................

Water splashed on Delepax. "Pony wake! No sleep!" rang in his ear.

The cold forced consciousness on the previously prone dragon-turned-pony. His body ached and his head rang as he got up on his legs, his mind trying to figure out what was going on, but processing rather groggily due to his sudden changes in environment.

Gruff, pleased the pony was awake, walked off to go join his pack, moving a large boulder to the entrance of this particular section of the cavern back in place to prevent passage out.

Delepax shook his newly acquired mane, it was a similar color to his mane coat, a polished bronze, except for the strips of sea green and blue decorating his short mane and tail.

"Awake it seems, you were beginning to worry me." A familiar voice whispered in the shadow to his ear.

"Bassia?" He spoke in surprise

"Quiet, they have not caught me yet and I don't think it would be very helpful to get caught before I can figure a way to get us out."

Delepax looked around, still in a state of confusion. Before him were ponies, all shapes, color, sizes and of various ages. Most were laying on the ground, some were walking about, talking and talking care of the older ones that were aching or the younger ones that couldn't take care of themselves. The air was foul, and it was not hard to figure out where the stench came from. The one major thing these ponies had in common was they all had a sullen face, especially when they looked at the newcomer, they knew what he would be going through very soon, just as they will had been forced day after day to do. Labor in the dark mines.

His eyes narrowed, his anger began to boil. "Slaves, tis is a slaver den." he hissed.

"Before you do something heroic and dangerous, I suggest you look at yourself."

He took his friends advice and finally examined his condition, the memory of why he was here, in this world, looking at strange creatures that resembled horses returned to him. He was now one of those horses. That complicated things.

"Quick, do you still have your magic?"

Delepax concentrated, he searched with in him for the spark of magic, sweat grew on his brow, which was strange unto itself, he never sweated before.

"Nay."

Brassia cursed again for the second time since she had arrived. "This is going to be tricky."

Delepax nodded, as he started testing out his new body. The range of motion in his limbs was surprising, much more than a horses, on par with a humans limbs for the matter. The muscles on this body were sufficiently strong for it's size, perhaps more so. He might have to fight his way out.

"Doth thine plan include the rest of the slaves?"

Brassia grimaced "I'm not sure we can save them in our current condition. It might be best just to escape and come back with local authorities backing our hides. I counted at least 9 of those doglike trolls, and there may be more in the cavern, I was to busy following the ones that took you in."

Delepax grunted "Unacceptable, we shall not leave these... people to suffer much longer."

Brassia grunted at her young friends brashness. The bronze dragon was barely over 100, incredibly young by dragon standards, he still hadn't learn the common form of speech yet, relying on an outdated version of the common tongue.

Brassia was about to argue back, when the stone rolled away, opening the entrance into the small cavern. The three dogs that had taken Delepax stepped into the room, all three armed this time with spears. They had a new pony to break in.

"Pony come with me. Time to learn work."

Delepax growled, "And if I do not heed thy commands?"

Brassia held her breath as she hid in the shadows of the cavern and thought loudly at her friend. 'Fool, just play along, your in no condition to fight back!'

Gruff was confused by the ponies speech, he never heard most of those words before. He did know the pony was talking back though. He grinned, the ponies weren't aloud to talk back.

Gruff swung the blunt end of the spear against Delepax's head, a sharp crack echoed in the cave, and all the ther ponies looked away and winced.

To Gruff's surprise, the pony didn't start crying like they normally do, even the fresh ones at least fell down and shouted in pain when he did that. Not this pony.

Delepax took the blow and stood standing, the sharp pain against his skull hurt, but his anger and pride were far to large to be taken out by one blow. His anger grew and flared in his eyes as he locked them on the dogs face, the ferocity shown threw his eyes that Gruff had never seen before.

He took a step back in surprise, but quickly regained his composure when he saw the other two dogs look at him, he could not afford to show weakness.

"Tough pony will OBEY!" Gruff growled, and again tried to strike the pony with all his might.

Enough was enough as they say, and the dragon could not suffer this indignity no longer. He was to be no one's slave! He was a dragon, and he would not let this grave offense go unpunished.

Delepax ducked under the blow and charged forward with a roar, he might not have had his original size and strength, but he still had his indomitable will and a savagery known only to those who had faced a dragon before.

Gruff could not defend against what happened next, he was far to surprise that the pony dodged his blow and was rushing him. Delepax struck at the dogs legs in their joints, bones could be heard audibly snapping. While Diamond Dogs had a strong upper body, their lower body was tiny in comparison, the upper body having to help support the whole, a perfect spot to strike first.

Gruff yelped in incredible pain, and fell forward onto his hands. Delepax then did the simplest thing he could do in that situation, he wrapped his hooves around the creatures neck and with a great roar, snapped it's neck.

The other two dogs were stunned by this turn of events, the events happened so fast it seemed almost like a split second as they watched their pack mate go slump.

They slowly gained their senses and prepared their spears, but were to slow as Delepax did not give them a second to relax and had picked up Gruff's spear with his mouth as it fell from his hand and skewered a second dog through it's neck.

The third guard, finally ready to act was not going to be taken easily, and in mad grief went to strike at the pony as his spear was jammed into his compatriot.

This blow would have been fatal. Delepax was not used to having no scales to act as natural armor, and his muscle memory of the battles he had told him to deflect the spear with the scales off his wings, his reflex acting before his brain reminded him he no longer had such limbs or armor. It would have pierced his side and heart, if not for Bassia jumping on the diamond dogs back and wrapping her hooves around it's throat in an effort to choke it out.

Brassia had cursed when his friend went into the offensive, she was hoping to avoid any battles on their way out, fighting back could have cost him valuable strength, or worse they would take it out on the other ponies as punishment, especially if they escaped without them.

She had she snuck behind the three, looking for an opportunity and took it the instant she saw that Delepax was about to be placed on the wrong end of a spear.

Her soft hooves wrapped tightly around the dogs throat as tightly as she could. Unlike Delepax, her new body wasn't as muscularly built, instead, she found her body rather soft, including her hooves, which was rather convenient for sneaking around as they made little sound, however they were terrible for combat.

She squeezed as tightly as she could as the creature struggled and shook, trying to get her off, while also defending against Delepax as he had grabbed the other spear, abandoning the lodged one in order to help his comrade out.

The struggle went on for several intense moments, until the dog finally fell unconscious, slumping to the floor as Bassia let out a sigh of relief.

Delepax, covered in dog blood and dirt then turned to the ponies and shouted. "Victory be ours! Freedom is our right! Join me brethren and together we can drive these fowl beings to the depths of hell and take back thine own freedom!"

Now, to the ponies in the cavern, they had just witness a feral mare just brutally slaughter two guards and help choke out a third. They were absolutely terrified, terrified of this new and foreign dangerous pony covered in blood, and terrified of what the diamond dogs would do to them now that 2 two of there own had been slain.

Delepax was confused, why did they not take arms under his banner, now it was time to strike while his enemy was un-aware. Bassia put her hoof on her friends shoulder. "Guard the entrance, I'll take care of this."

The mare walked to the group and called out to the group, in a voice that sounded like honey, yet was filled with confidence that thy needed. "Please, do not be afraid! We have come to rescue you, but we cannot rescue those who aren't prepared to fight for their freedom! Now is the time to fight for your freedom, while the enemy is caught off guard. IF we work together and act as one, they cannot stop us!"

One from the group stepped up, trembling and answered, "But we are scared, they have spears, and now that you have killed one of them, they are going to be angry..."

Bassia answered back, "If you lack courage, draw it from Delepax, the warrior who stands before you. He will fight for you and in watching him, you can draw courage for he has plenty to spare. And if fear will drive you, think of this, you have old and young in your group, it is the job of the able bodied to protect those who can't defend themselves, and who do you think these cowards that held you captive will go after first?"

"Y-you!" Stammered another, "You brought this upon us, they wouldn't have any reason to hurt us if you two hadn't attacked them!"

"You are correct, and we take full responsibility, my friend could not sit idly by and watch you suffer, and neither can I. Join us, and you can have your freedom, help us drive these beasts off, for if we all don't work together, we will surely fall."

The stallion shouted astonished. "You left us no choice."

Bassia shook her head. "No, I left you a choice, just not a pleasant one. Follow us and help take back your freedom, or stay here and dam yourselves to the wrath of your masters."

A buzzing quiet argument broke out in the group, but it ended quickly enough with the answer Bassia knew they give.

"We have no other option to escape, and we probably won't ever get another chance to. For better or worse, our lot is stuck with you mares."

Bassia nodded. It was time to get to work.

Author's Note:

Heyo, longer chapter

Sorry if I butcher old English, think of it as part of the joke.

And I think I earned my Dark tag thank you very much.

Still not sure If I tagged it correctly for slice of life or it should be adventure.

Comments ( 15 )

I love you for what you have done here
And thinking about it Pinkie Pie and/or Discord must meet a copper dragon the hijinks they could ensue would be amazing

Also I can't wait for you to do a chapter with a silver or blue my 2 fave just ahead of bronze and reds

3547832 Something you are forgetting about White dragons yes they are the least intelligent of all the dragons but even hatchlings have the same level of intelligence as a human child and at great wyrm they are as intelligent as the smartest of humans, yes they act bestial and and react more on instinct then the others but are still very smart

description of their eating habits they all very much enjoy eating gemstones its a favorite snack

Bronze prefer seafood like sharks and whales

yes I'd be willing to help with anything as well I a big fan of D&D dragons and even own the Draconomicon for 3.5 and goes into very deep detail about all their personalities and behavior, diet, where and why they live in certain locals.

3561224...

I did not forget.

Thus why creative idea 12-b featured The White as a highly intelligent villain as a powerful unicorn with not only white dragon traits, but also magical control over the snow & ice surrounding The Crystal Empire. Princess Cadence and Shining Armor would be in for the fight of their lives in trying to protect their kingdom & its crystal citizens from a villain possibly more dangerous than King Sombra.

The other two creative ideas featured taking the white dragon traits to different spectrums. Creative idea 12-a being a deliberate reduction of The White to a feral but powerful beast, highlighting the core concept of white dragons being apex arctic predators.

Creative idea 12-b, the option that Eragon5055 intends to use, is the semi-comedic option where The White is reduced to a filly/colt barely past being a foal, but still retains many draconic traits. So the dramatic & comedic struggle for parent-hopefuls Princess Cadence and Shining Armor is to survive raising a child with potentially titanic power and an almost genetic inclination towards Evil (nature vs. nurture).

3561463...

(may as well field that question since I am here)

Eragon5055 has said that he does not intend to do more than the standard 5 chromatic vs. 5 metallic. In literary writing, the author must be careful not to have too many role-involved characters. Too large of an active cast, and it can fatally dilute reader-interest as a result.

3561173

Putting Pinkie Pie, Discord and a Copper dragon in the same room could potentially cause the universe to implode!

So no worries, I already got a plan for Copper to annoy some one >:)

And I got a plan for Silver as well so we'll see if you enjoy it. For Chromatics, Blue is my favorite hands down, but for Metallics, its a tie between Sliver and Copper.

I do appreciate your offer to help, thank you.

We all play nice and I'll welcome input.

3561463

And to answer about the Gems, probably not. One of the major reasons is just has been previously stated, it would make too many characters to flesh out, as I'm stretching it as it is. Another reason is that the 5 neutral are the least appealing to me, and from what I understand, that is a general what most people place them at. (One final reason is has to do with the alignment system, but that's a personal philosophical thing, no need to bother ya with it.)

This story seems like it will be good, although I haven't seen enough to truly judge quality.

That said, it is rife with spelling errors.

3563137

Your making this poor, poor man jealous.

3563780

Probably. I confuse my computer often with to many made up words that the real errors often slip pass.

@Eragon5055...

(now that I had time to read chapter 3...)

1. "Not bad" for a dual dragon introduction chapter (3). Though you slipped & slid a bit (literarily speaking) on how The Brass and The Bronze fought the Diamond Dogs. It read like the pair fought like they still had hands/talons rather than using their hooves &/or mouths to wield &/or grab things as earth ponies. You may want to revise & refine it at some later point (does not have to be "now", but definitely should be done at some point). And especially keep it in mind for later chapters

2. Yeah... You butchered the Ye Olde English pretty awful, even Princess Luna would be /facehoof-ing at you right now :fluttershyouch: . As a general guideline, you do not need to put more than one Ye Olde English bit in a sentence, the lack of contractions is what intones it as much the Ye Olde style wording.

excerpted example...

Delepax growled, "And what if I doth not heed thou'ests commands?"

revised example...

Delepax growled, "And if I do not heed thy commands?"

See the difference? Comic-book community legend Stan Lee commented that when writing the archaic speaking lines for Marvel's Thor...

"Keep it simple. Keep it concise. And most of all, keep it CLEAR for the readers."

~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~
3. Speaking of guidelines, I would advise keeping a healthy (if not "generous") dose of draconic physical traits carried over to their pony conversions. This is to keep the dragon protagonists interesting to the reader audience, as well as noticeably setting them apart (in-story) from the Equestrian ponies they are forced to live with.
Here is a broad suggestion-guideline on how to handle the dragon-to-pony conversions of traits...
For general draconic characteristics across the board...
~ a. dragon breath; obviously the destructiveness of breath would be limited to pony-scale
~ b. moderate damage resilience
~ c. moderate magic resistance
~ d. moderately greater physical strength than ponies; example: they could lift a pony over their head in each forehoof
~ e. draconic fear aura (chromatic, metallic) and inspiring aura (metallic)
~ f. near-immunity to their respective elemental nature
For those turned into earth ponies...
~ a. upgraded to major damage resilience; roughly equal to their dragon age-category
~ b. upgraded to major magic resistance; roughly equal to their dragon age-category
~ c. significantly greater physical strength; roughly to the scale of their age- & size-category, examples of such strength include: cracking solid stone with a hind-kick, lifting loaded wagons over their head single-handedly (-hoofedly?), snapping iron manacles, biting through steel bars, etc.
For those turned into pegasus...
~ a. greater flight endurance; being able to fly greater/longer distances without rest
~ b. greater flight stability; this means it is very difficult to knock a draconic-pegasus out of the air, even when hovering
~ c. stronger & damage resilient wings; meaning their wings can be used as defensive shields for covering/protecting others, or offensive attacks (wing buffet, wind "shockwave" by slapping wings together forcefully, etc.)
For those turned into unicorns...
~ a. access to their innate spell-like abilities
~ b. magical control of their respective elements, akin to an unicorn-pony's Cutie Mark special talent (white dragon can control/animate snow & ice, blue can generate & manipulate storms, green can corrupt & animate forest plants, etc.)
~ c. major magic resistance; roughly equal to their dragon age-category
Exceptions to these rules would include...
~ a. If the dragon is a wizard or sorcerer, then they have access to their arcane spell repertoire & spell-like (arcane) abilities
~ b. If the dragon is a cleric or paladin, then they have access to their divine spell array & spell-like (divine) abilities
3566450
1. How they fought was intentional. They treated their bodies as if they still had those tools. It's a little hard to go back on a hundreds of years worth of training.
2. Will work on that.
3. No comment. I already have an idea what they will keep. (Not much)
Over time they may get some of it back, but no, not initially.
3566596...
4. Well yes, for story-telling it should be awkward for the dragon protagonists' physical actions. I was talking how it in terms of the writing itself it felt too anthropomorphic than pony-oriented at some points from the reader perspective.
5. As for dragon traits... Yes, I meant I was speaking in the overall of the story. Though obviously some traits should be there at the get-go, such as passive effects (damage resilience, magic resistance, elemental near-immunity, &/or greater-than-pony strength, etc.). Other traits come over time, adaptation, and practice (dragon breath, spell-like abilities, fear aura, etc.).
Looks like a good story so far.
I'm waiting for continue.
Little musing about other possible dragons:
Blue Dragon must be a unicorn. (Should not turn into pegasus, because not a best flier among chromatic dragons.) Also, already have a horn! wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG72.jpg And unicorn shooting lines of lightning must look really impressive. Access to such spell-like abilities as ventriloquism, hallucinatory terrain, veil and mirage arcana can help make an awesome stage performance... :trixieshiftright:
Prismatic Dragon should be pegasus, because they are the fastest fliers in the game. Add in coloration in stripes someone can draw connections... :rainbowhuh:
Crystal Dragon - crystal pony
Beastland dragon - zebra?
Time Dragon - hourglass cutie mark, and taller than Princess Celestia
3739522
Glad ya like it :)
Blue Dragon must be a unicorn. (Should not turn into pegasus, because not a best flier among chromatic dragons.) Also, already have a horn!
Actually though, Blue Dragons are the best fliers of the Chromatics, if not of all the dragons. Here's a wiki entry found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_dragon
The blue dragon excels at aerial combat, perhaps more so than any other species of dragon. Their lightning discharges are very easy to aim at other aerial foes, or at creatures below them on the ground.
I have checked read 3+ sources that state this same thing. So sorry to disappoint, but the plan was Blue is going to be a Pegasus, a bat pony to be specific.
As for other dragons, I won't be covering them, but feel free to use the exotic ones you have mentioned in your own stories, I would love to see it :)
3740770
Glad you answered so fast! :yay:
Actually though, Blue Dragons are the best fliers of the Chromatics, if not of all the dragons. Here's a wiki entry found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_dragon
You are author, and I'm not going to say 'no' to good story, but your information is grossly inaccurate. Article, which you are cited, only mention in passing "blue dragon excels at aerial combat", and go right to breath weapon :derpyderp2: wizards.com/dnd/images/draco_gallery/75592.jpg breath Weapon is a great thing, but doesn't relate to flying capabilities in any way.
I checked in actual sourcebooks, and there are the results:
In the older (pre-3rd) editions, question: "Who's the best flier among chromatic dragons?" was pointless, because all of them have absolutely identical flying capabilities.
The same can be said about Pathfinder.
Only 3rd and 4th editions of D&D make some difference.
In 4E Blue Dragon is second in speed to Green, and equal to Red. Maneuverability equal in all of them.
So, what's about 3rd edition, the most popular, wide-spread, and so on?
The fastest flier among chromatic dragons in 3.X is White, hands down. Speed of 250 is beyond the abilities of any other chromatic dragon. Also, White is nearly the fastest chromatic wyrmling in 3.X (Red can make the same speed, but White also have better maneuverability)
But wait, maneuverability! :rainbowdetermined2:
If Blue is not the most speedy chromatic dragon in 3.X, maybe he's at least, the most maneuverable? :rainbowderp:
Let's see!
Maneuverability "Average" as Wyrmling, "Poor" from Very young to Very old, and "Clumsy" from Ancient to Great wyrm.
So, what's the other 4 chromatic dragons?
Black keeps "Average" maneuverability longer (up to Very young), and drop to "Clumsy" later (from Wyrm)
Green have dynamics of maneuverability absolutely identical to Blue.
Red never have "Average" maneuverability, and "Clumsy" from Old age.
White have dynamics of maneuverability absolutely identical to Black.
As a result, we get pretty unimpressive results.
Flying speed 100 as wyrmling, is pretty standard.
Can speed up to 150 at the same age as Green, a little bit early than Black, but a little bit later than Red and White.
Can speed up to 200 at the same age as Green, a little bit early than Black, much later than Red, and much much more later than White.
And only in age beyond 1200 years can hope to reach speed 250.
Maneuverability also not impressing. Completely equal to Green, second to Black and White, and clearly excel only over Red (which is the least maneuverable kind of chromatic dragons in 3.X)
So, even among kin chromatic dragons, Blue Dragons is pretty average fliers.
No way he is better than [epic] dragons, who can speed to 250 from hatching, and up to 350 from Wyrm.
Of course, it's with "Clumsy" maneuverability, but come on! It's really difficult to
maneuver in the air, when you are bigger than Tarrasque! wizards.com/dnd/images/MM35_gallery/MM35_PG240.jpg
Time Dragon can speed up to 300 as Wyrmling, and up to 380 as Great wyrm.
But the best flier among dragons are probably Mercury.
200 as Wyrmling, with "Perfect" maneuverability.
300 as Great wyrm, with "Average"...
P. S.I don't know why this article from Wiki said those thing.
The only rational explanation is author(s) thought about Azure dragon static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091111000344/mightandmagic/en/images/2/2b/H3CrAzureDragon.gif from Heroes of Might and Magic III
"3+ sources that state this same thing" were, probably, just quote from Wiki
3744855
I think this is a case of text not supported by stats, because its not just the wiki site that states it is the best at aerial combat. I got a book right here: A Practical guide to Dragons (yes an official D&D book, Birthday gift from a long time ago, made for kids) stating the exact same thing, Blue being the best aerial fighter over all.
It really sounds like one head isn't knowing what the left was doing, and personally flavor text is law over the game stats with me. (Also because I assumed they made that claim not just considering the breath weapons since Lightning, regardless what pokemon has taught us, is terrible for aerial targets.) It may be its intelligence and magical (making people hallucinate is really fun!) ability as a major factor, but it also makes more sense for it to be a strong flier due to its preferred habitat, the dessert.
Edit:
Also, It might not be considering 'epic' level dragons. I know next to nothing about them, and generally think they are very supplementary, as in most realities they are incredibly rare or don't exist and that is very much up to the gm. So each to their own.
3745014
Apparently, I found a source of such statement.
Year 2003, Dragonlance Campain Setting, Chapter 8: Dragons of Krynn, pg. 235
Blue Dragons
More gregarious and outgoing than black dragons (or any other chromatic dragons), blue dragons work well with both people and other dragons, particularly other blues. Thus the blue dragon is ideally suited for aerial combat, either paired with dragon rider or fighting as part of cohesive unit of other blue dragons.
Also, flight abilities not the only reason I was skeptical about Blue-pegasus.
After all, nearly any True Dragon (and notable amount of lesser) are able to fly.
But to make a good pegasus, we need something more... flavorful...
Say, Silver Dragon. Constant undispellable Cloudwalking. Sound like prime pegasus material
White, Brass, Bronze and Topaz will get access to Control Weather SLA at some point of life. Looks pegasi-like enough
Crystal Dragons to the end of their life (Great wyrm) get Control Winds. OK...
Blue Dragon get... What?... Access to spells from Air domain? Not so convincing...
Epic Dragons, indeed, far too rare
But mercury was around since 1993, so hardly a new thing
P.S. By my one logic, White Dragon absolutely must become a pegasus. Impressive flight ability, weakest magic, Control Weather (as Great wyrm). Hard to find a reason to not turn into pegasus
