New chapter? Yesyesyesyes~
Such intensity...Such passion!
All of which happening outside of the bedroom.
Such a twist. Things have calmed down...And yet I can't wait to see what happens next.
New chapter? Whelp, better postpone that root canal.
I really like how that confrontation played out, good job on making Rarity and Cashmere's interactions so emotionally complex.
Brilliant, as always.
Couple of typos: Unfortuantely confont sleeze
Damn... You managed to create really nice character. Cashmere is...well. I don't like her and like at the same time. Great job on her.
I've finally found the perfect song for Cashmere.
Take it away, Pac!
damn thought it was the proposal with a title like that your such a tease dref
Well worth the wait, and still one more to go! This was quite an eye-opening chapter, very intense and well written. My heart was thumping out of light frustration during Cash and Rarity's little chat.
Keep this up, pal!
Also, some lines need fixing:
You sir, have outdone yourself yet again!
Amazing! Another golden chapter, in a platinum story!

Competition does breed results.
Not sure what to think of this development. She is obviously playing some sort of game here. That's okay, I have just the pony for her.

I gotta say, bespoke and haute couture fashion are a bit at odds with opening new stores all over the place and such. If you measure success by popularity or financial gain then such things are true enough, as there has always been vastly more money in building a name and then milking it for all it's worth, a la Calvin Klein, but I'm pretty sure Rarity's career aspirations are more like Stephane Rolland.
Cashmere clearly wants to be Chanel though. A huge business with a true haute couture line subsidized by a huge array of RTW lines.
well color me surprised... Cashmere I tip my figurative hat off to you... for now.
Nonchalant not nonchelant. Otherwise, loving these stories so far!
Heh, the thought of Cashmere's actions having such an effect on Rarity's business had been playing in the back of my mind for a few chapters. I'm glad to see this development come out of it and look forward to see where it goes. I have a few thoughts as to Cashmere's motivations and end goal. Purely speculation for my part, but it feels quite possible that Cashmere still very much cares for Rarity and is simply playing the villain in order to help Rarity flourish and be the fashionista that Cashmere knows she could be.
Such a great story. 'Hmmmhmmm'
I'm guessing that's supposed to be 'semantics' but, given that it's Cashmere talking, it may be intentional.
While Cash is certainly right about her competition pushing Rarity to excel, taking credit for it is like the losing team at the Superbowl taking credit for the winners. 'If we hadn't lost, they wouldn't have won, so they're welcome.' I also feel Rarity and Cash have very different definitions of success. Not everyone wants to grow their business into Wal-Mart. Rarity is comfortably well off and designing clothing for celebrities and royalty. If that's stagnant, I'll take some stagnation over here, please. Hopefully, Rarity doesn't get too dragged into believing that bit of sophistry, but I guess I'll find out shortly.
As to the rest... well I haven't finished it yet but the ending may change my current impression so I want to say that, so far, this has been a really enjoyable story. I don't expect the ending to be bad, mind, but I'm long winded so this is me clearing my throat before I get there, or some such. The character depth and interactions, obviously the lifeblood of this sort of fic, have been very strong. The back and forth between our protag and Rarity is exactly the high point it should be, but even the side characters that only have a few scenes come through as distinctive and entertaining. What I've found interesting and surprisingly rewarding is the relatively straightforward nature of the back and forth with the various issues the characters have dealt with. Slate was quickly dealt with in a manner fitting to him. He was pretty damn crazy but it didn't reach the truly dark (and generally excessive) levels that plenty of fics trot out. Cashmere, on the other hand, has been a complex enough character to be a true FIM antagonist. That is to say, you could see her being redeemed from her bits of spitefulness and hope for such. The love triangle thing with Fluttershy (who has been adorably portrayed, dear god I need insulin) has me a bit worried... and that's great. The story isn't taking the easy route of just making polyamory this accepted thing and everyone's happy. I don't take issue with stories that do that if they're handled well, but this one is taking the much more challenging route of NOT doing that and carefully handling the complexity of it.
Let's see... anything in terms of criticism to add. ...The simple fact that I have to reach on that says something, doesn't it? I had upvoted this by around chapter two or three, I don't recall. Well, the straightforward nature is something of a double edged sword... this is me reaching. Early on, I kept expecting something really bad to happen. Yet, for a story called Sophistication and Betrayal, it's been mostly aboveboard. Oh sure, the stuff between Cash and Rarity has had some dirty pool, but nothing too horrendous. One of the key conflict points is the simple fact of Cash betraying the history she and Rarity had together, but since we're only privy to that history via Rarity explaining it the emotional hit of the betrayal isn't all that strong for the reader (or maybe it's just me). If anything, Cash's characterization has her growing on me from the one-sided mare that introduced herself by insulting Rarity. I just don't feel the sting of the betrayal much, but that said I want to see them work something out because Rarity is hurting from it.
The other little issue (and again, a reach here, very minor gripe) is the lack of the other canon characters showing up. Twilight in particular I'd have loved to see in more than just a flashback capacity. Now, I have a few chapters to go so maybe complaining about that is premature, but this fic does characterization and interactions extremely well. It would have been great to see more of that applied to the characters that are Rarity's closest friends. The protag seems to get along with most of them as well (I get the impression he and Dash are a bit meh, but that's fine) so a few more get togethers involving more of them would have been nice to see in such a relatively lengthy story.
Such a long comment on a fic that is long finished... ah well my roots are showing. The author is still alive and well (I hope and assume) so this is way younger than most works I've written on. In any case, continuing on to the next chapter... thanks for writing this. It's been a warm, pleasant read as I bask in the happy glow of the characters making their way through challenges that in no way overshadow their love for one another. As I alluded to, I think I have a sugar overload from Fluttershy and almost as frequently Rarity, but there's worse ways to go. See you again at the denouement.
