15k words and the chapter is barely even at the halfway point! · 8:35am Jan 5th, 2016

...I have no words for this other than that I'm going to be DREADING editing it. This is looking like it's going to be over 20k EASY, and I haven't even written the beginning of the chapter yet.

You heard that right folks. The beginning of the chapter which contains most of the altered Episode six plot hasn't even been written yet, and I'm not even halfway through this doozy of a damn chapter.

What would A Rather Large Adventure look like if I de-pony-ified it? · 11:49pm Aug 3rd, 2021

If this question has been on your mind, fear not. Tomorrow, I will release in a blog my general outline for what this particular book series would look like. I have a very good feeling it can succeed in the book market if given a shot in a few years.

The Author's Rendition of Marshal Malice · 11:10pm Oct 23rd, 2021

I decided to use what little artistic skills I have to create the image I had in my head of A Rather Large Adventure's main villain. Marshal Malice's appearance is a bit tough to translate into words. To simplify, he looks like someone slapped a dragon head onto a centipede. With ten legs. A one-tenthipede.

A startling revelation · 7:24am Jan 23rd, 2018

So I was talking with one of my friends, discussing MLP designs as you do. We got onto the topic of Equestria Girls Sunset and Starlight, which led to a major discovery. For me anyway.

Apparently, Sunset Shimmer's eyes are green.

Am I the only one who didn't know this?

If you asked me yesterday what colour her eyes were, I would not have hesitated in saying red.

Apologies for not posting anything for a couple of weeks. I am sure you are all deeply missing my thrilling commentary on science and global politics. I have been rather tied up with science festival stuff for the last week. It’s amazing how much time organising even small events can take, but it’s always nice when young kids tell you that you're cool, and I got to play with some new science toys, including the LHC micro Lego model.

Future idea · 3:37pm Mar 8th, 2020

So a future book idea, that i might write after this monsterotica hear me out.

It's modern-day, and a virus has taken over attacking humanity (Call it the Konus Virus) so the idea was that while a group of scientist, goes off and tries to find a cure cause its getting out of control they freeze a group of humans so that if they fail and humanity dies they can awaken a thousand years later where the virus would be dead and they can bring humanity back from the brink.

Sunny, Izzy, Zipp and Pipp discuss the start of the Large Hadron Collider Run 3 · 3:08pm Oct 2nd, 2022

Unlike some fans, I thoroughly enjoyed the new dose of Make Your Mark. Eight episodes of ponies being ponies, with extra glitter, was just what I needed this week as a distraction from the reality of Britain under our new Prime Minister. I’m pleased that the general quality has picked up again. After the brilliant start with the movie, the Chapter 1 special was a little underwhelming, and while fun, Tell Your Tale never really goes beyond a cute side show.

The Fault In Our Cutie Marks: Ooh, could be interesting, and I like that they're addressing one of the show's unanswered questions from all the way back in Season 1.

Viva Las Pegasus: This one should be fun. :rainbowlaugh:

Word Count · 2:40pm Mar 9th, 2016

So I decided, after finishing TOML, that I'd take a look at all my stories and see how many words all my stories add up to, how much I've written over these years. The number surprised me; I've written a total of 826,092 words of story, 775,801 of which are all in the same general story arc (ACTF, ACOF, TOML). Damn, that's a lot.

Writing 101: The Logistics of Large Casts/Conversations in Prose · 5:07am Feb 28th, 2018

In the past, I’ve advocated learning from cinema, trying to use and translate the same techniques into prose. I use terms like “blocking” and “off-screen” to refer to things in prose.

Today, however, I’d like to discuss one of the major differences between visual media and prose. It also happens to be one of prose fiction's greatest weaknesses: scenes and stories with a large number of characters.
