I am really starting to think this borderline an alternative universe because none of this is making sense anymore. Why are Celestia and Luna fillies here? And why is Opaline their sibling? Surely this must be some sort of false relapse of memory, like the Mandela Effect in the MLP world or something.

As in be a setting at least a decade into the future. I've been thinking about where I was taking the plot of the story and it just require to have the story take place sometime in the future of the FiM universe. The number one huge reason being that virtual technology exists within the story, something mostly perceived as a futuristic thing. Turns out Luna's real target is Cadence though, but by the time she gets upstairs Cheerilee has already taken her outside and Shining seals himself and Luna in the throne room to keep her contained.
