It's that time of the year again! The AppleDash contest reappears!

This time, the prompt is simple. What you do with it, however, is entirely up to you.

You can take that any way you want. Face value, or twist its meaning, or whatever at all. A second chance at what? Whose second chance? Why a second chance was needed?

We won't tell you what to do with it.

You're expecting to see a dozen fics with the same 'second chance' idea? Then play with the words. Think twice about what that second chance is.

Surprise us. Or don't, but wow us instead.

Make this your second (or third, or fourth, or...) chance at victory!

- Entries must be a minimum of 5000 words long.
- Entries must be complete by the end of the contest—incomplete entries will not be judged.
- Multiple entries are allowed. They will be judged completely separately.
- No Anthro, Crossovers, Grimdark, Gore, Human(s) in Equestria, Ponies on Earth, Species-Swap, Gender-swap.
- Applejack and Rainbow Dash must be a couple by the end of your fic. They can start out however you like.
- Mature fics are allowed, but not required.
- Bear in mind that the contest is still about the story. Mature fics won't score extra points.
- Fics can be part of an extended fic-verse, but need to be able to stand alone.
- The deadline is 11:59PM PST on September 15th, 2017.

Three prizes! Each winner will receive an amount of money towards the purchase of sweet pony merchandise. Each winner can pick what they want, from where/who they want, and when they want it. This can be commissions from that artist you've always wanted art from, a plushie, something from shapeways.com, or whatever else you can think of. Anything left in the prize after the purchase of your merch can be sent as an Amazon gift card (if that doesn't work, we can always work out an alternative).

- First place gets $300
- Second place gets $150
- Third place gets $50.

Upon announcing the winners, KrazyTheFox will contact each and arrange for the distribution of the prizes.

We are still working on extra prizes - some EA games, possibly a commissioned fic by a well known fic author! We will cover that more when the time comes and have figured out and finalized things.

Add your entry to the group's main folder, then PM one of the judges with a link to your story. The judge will move your story to the dedicated contest folder. If your story is complete, but not yet on the site, a Google Docs link (or similar) PM'd to a judge will suffice. Your story will not be judged until it's completed, but it can still be added to the folder and the judges will track it.

I may kind of have a potentially interesting idea for a not-completely-obvious take on that prompt, but I'm not sure I'll be able to write a fic good/long enough to do it justice, let alone in just two months. Nevertheless, I'll try to at least submit something — I was kind of itching to stetch my writing muscles anyway, and this is the perfect excuse. Deadlines seem to be the only truly effective cure for my procrastination, anyway (seriously, three of my four fics were written for a deadline).

Besides, this actually would be my second chance at one of these contests. I can't pass up that sort of opportunity.

I know what you mean about going chapter by chapter. But I think the secret to Regular Chapter Upload Schedule (or RCUS, pronounced 'ruckus', as I like to call it) is to write all, or as much of the story as possible and then start uploading afterwards. Haven't missed an upload date yet!
