In a world decayed by war, two mares have survived by becoming thieves for hire. After receiving a job from a revolutionary supporter, the two must travel to the dead city of Canterlot to find an artifact which may just be the key to Equestria's salvation.

Murder is the most heinous crime imaginable to ponies. What, then, do they make of a pony whose cutie mark is about killing?

Note: this is primarily a look into the Mane 6's reactions to a pony who kills. A blanket trigger warning is given for death and death-related topics such as gore - but if you're looking for gratuitous bloodletting, look elsewhere. The story is set during FiM season 4. Written expressly for Equestria Daily's inaugural Writer's Training Grounds. Apologies in advance for the clipped, frenetic pacing of the story, but there was a hard limit of 1,500 words, and when you're as wordy as I am, that's very difficult to obey!

Crime, is something that is present no matter where you look. Sure there are places that seem free of its influence, but scratch below the surface and you'll see signs of crime and corruption.

Even a seemingly peaceful land such as Equestria has its secrets. For unknown to many, the world of crime has quite the influence.

Applejack is aware of this fact, but when Granny Smith reveals how it ties into the deaths of Applejack's parents, Applejack is furious.

Before long however, she decides that there's only one thing to do. Teach the world of crime a lesson. And she intends to do so using their greatest weapon, fear.

And so, Equestria's greatest, and most mysterious defender is born.
