AO3 Account + Helluva Boss Story

Hey all, just a bit of an update blog.

I've finally polished up my AO3 account after releasing my latest story there, my first one for Helluva Boss and my second non-pony story in literally years. I am very proud of it, so I encourage you to check it out. I blew through this story in a week, something I've not experienced for over a year.

Any Other Writers Going to CiderFest?

I'm planning on attending my first CiderFest this year, and I'm applying for a panel, there. I have a lot to say about platonic affection's importance in humans and its wide prevalence in the fanfiction of our fandom, being sort of a specialist in it. Ideally though I'd like to have one or two other co-panelists to help guide and create discussion both among the panelists and with the audience.

A Gesture of Buggy Kinship, Congrats KkSlider! · 4:55pm Jun 25th, 2022

KKSlider and I talked in-depth for the very first time recently, and I realized we actually have quite a bit in common. We both finished our magnum opuses about buggos within the last twelve months, and from somewhere within that time-span, had an identical amount of followers. These things don't really matter, but they were enough to make me feel a buggy kinship of sorts.

I've never been the most social author on this site—I don't participate in contests, I don't comment on things unless I have something very specific to say, and, to be honest, I write fan fiction more than I read it in general. So, as both an introvert and a FIMFic author, these fleeting moments of perceived kinship can feel pretty meaningful. A changeling can end up doing fun, impulsive things when feeling such things, like commissioning art.

To that end, I wanted to give props to KKSlider for completing Changing Expectations, clocking in at half a million words. Admittedly, I feel like the only person on the site who hasn't read it yet, but I do plan on rectifying this...eventually. :twilightsheepish:

TChanging Expectations
What does it mean to be a Changeling? To the former human Prince Phasma, that means doing what you can to survive and thrive in an utterly alien world.

Anyway, well done, KKS! Hope you don't mind me borrowing Phasmatodea, or projecting your love of Pharynx through him. Wanted this to be a surprise. :derpytongue2:

I like to imagine that if he and Calor did meet, they'd find a way to get along despite their opposite demeanors, just like the brothers they take after.

Wow nice I like it

Awwww, that picture is adorable!! I'm glad you made friends, that's always nice to hear!!!

KK’s a Pharynx fan too? Holy crap, that’s awesome!

If KK hasn’t seen this blog already, he’s gonna flip once he does.

huh. this might just have convinced me to read changing expectations, see what the hype is all about

You're suggesting it's possible to not be a fan of Pharynx? :trixieshiftright:

I've never been the most social author on this site—I don't participate in contests, I don't comment on things unless I have something very specific to say, and, to be honest, I write fan fiction more than I read it in general. Oh thank god you're like this, too. I was worried that I would have to force myself to continue a conversation. I really enjoyed our convo, but holding one outside of a discord server or IRL is just an uphill battle for me. I still loved our conversation.

Anyways, d'aaawww! I absolutely love it! I'm definitely sharing it with my server. I do love Pharynx, and in fact the role I gave Phasmatodea is somewhat similar to Pharynx's role as a brother. We must protect Thorax, for he is too sweet for this world.

To that end, I wanted to give props to KKSlider for completing Changing Expectations, clocking in at half a million words. Admittedly, I feel like the only person on the site who hasn't read it yet, but I do plan on rectifying this...eventually.

Congrats on finishing KoLB and getting it printed! That's a huge accomplishment! There's just not enough love for love bugs here on fimfic. And by that I mean there can never be enough love!

Thanks to this blog, I’m actually thinking about checking your highest rated story. For now, congrats on completing it. Half a million words is quite the word count, but that’s also what I call true dedication to your work.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun writing it. So few stories do HiE buggos right, so I thought that I would do the category justice. It's certainly not a story for everyone, and all the cheesey, adorable bits are balanced with some dark chapters, but I'm proud of it!

5667657
Wish I knew a thing or two about proper tone balance, especially when it comes to writing stories. It’s also good to see you enjoyed writing it.

Good luck on the sequel, fellow Pharynx fan.

You're not the only one who hasn't read that story, Navel. I didn't either, in part because of the romance tag, but probably more because I'm not sure whether the story falls among the ones who adore Chrysalis or the ones who demonize her, and I really really really don't want to read a story (especially one of that length) if it glorifies her even the slightest. Not that I wouldn't be interested otherwise, since I see a Thorax tag there too :twilightsheepish:
Those of you who have read it (Or KKSlider himself), based on what I just said, is it safe to start reading it, or should I steer clear?

5667668
What Chrysalis is, is a question that is asked in the story. If you want the answer regardless of spoilers, she is a villain. I even make blatant references to her being Hitler at one point. The Main Character does bad things too, though, being pragmatic and morally gray.

If you want even more spoilers to get an absolute answer, she is a redeemable villain who has done horrible things in the name of survival of the changeling species. I mean really horrible. The kind of stuff that warrants the Dark tag.

Guess I'll start reading, then. Thanks

It's reassuring to hear that, despite not reading your story yet, I surmised that Phas is similar to Pharynx like Calor is similar to Thorax. :twilightsheepish: Was sort of going off demeanor in art and visual depictions. :rainbowlaugh: Plus I knew you liked Pharynx a lot. If Phas looks after Thorax then that one commission you got from CitreneSkys makes contextual sense, now.

Thanks! And yes, never enough bug love. Sometimes I think about missed opportunities of mine to interact with some of the major changeling authors that came and left before me, like Carapace. I figured it was time to stop hiding in my dusty old books and make some friends. :trollestia:
