Any Other Writers Going to CiderFest? · 10:43pm Jul 19th, 2023
I'm planning on attending my first CiderFest this year, and I'm applying for a panel, there. I have a lot to say about platonic affection's importance in humans and its wide prevalence in the fanfiction of our fandom, being sort of a specialist in it. Ideally though I'd like to have one or two other co-panelists to help guide and create discussion both among the panelists and with the audience. While I'm comfortable enough to do a solo panel, I think it'd be more engaging and smooth if it's not just me talking to the audience.
Just probing my followers and seeing if there are any other writers who plan on going, who may be interested in such a thing. Times, etc are not yet in stone.

I'm not sure how much I know about platonic love . . . does it count if I have to tell my readers that the story isn't a romance, the characters aren't going to hook up?
I dunno, it's something I could probably talk about if nobody more qualified weighs in
Can I talk about the concept of relationship anarchy and how it means you can be as close to your homies as you want and it's hella valid?

I think any FIMFic writers (especially those people are going to recognize) would work fine, trying to ask for platonic relationship experts would be unrealistic of me.
That said the majority of us have written cute slice of life stuff to varying degrees so having something to add to the discussion is kinda inescapable.

And even if it wasn't having people with slightly varying perspectives would be interesting, good even. The goal is to have folks to bounce off of and create an interesting conversation that the audience can also engage with.
I mean yeah that's not far off from what I planned on talking about
I will say I had planned on this being PG, mostly focusing on the concept of platonic physical touch (hugs, cuddling, reassuring gestures, etc). I wanted to talk about the rampant issue of touch starvation in humans, especially because of issues like toxic masculinity in men, and how widespread positive relationships are in our fandom's works by comparison.
If in 'relationship anarchy' you plan on highlighting anything sexual, I definitely don't mind touching on that topic because it deserves to be mentioned, but we would need to look at panel ratings. I personally don't want to go above Pg-13
