Be still, sad heart! and cease repining; Behind the clouds is the sun still shining.

You probably know how this sort of thing goes. There you are, mowing your grass on a day that can't decide whether to shine or drizzle on you, a few years and counting into your non-writing streak. Whatever thoughts you're having are at the expense of your lawnmower picking a fight with every passing tuffet and losing.

    Stellarum voces

A jolly update for folk who like either fanfic readings or The Motion of the Stars, and a downright rapturous one for folk who like both. My name is R has brought their vocal talent to bear on the story, complete with images and background music to help

    On Brains

A nice breezy dialogue to ease in with:

CARABAS’ COMMON SENSE: So, a hypothetical conservation for you.
CARABAS: Two lines in and we’ve already got fictional discourse nested in the initial fictional discourse. Gosh, I must just love to live dangerously.

Just watched the new film.

I'd been cautiously optimistic when G5 was on the horizon, and stayed optimistic as it got increasingly less horizony. Now it's landed, and that optimism's been justified. It's very nicely done, and a solid introduction to G5.

Nae especially spoilerly or well-developed thoughts to follow, but suffice to say it's charming, stylish, full of lovely wee background details and gags, the new characters are fun and lively and carry each scene with aplomb, and Izzy is God's own prototype of the perfect creature. If you've the means to watch it, it comes well-recommended.

I watched the movie as well, and it was better than expected.

Izzy is Best Pon. And her pet tennis ball.

Definitely carried itself with more charm and panache than I was expecting as well. It was a fun ride.

5586346
She's an excellent horse. Her ball's a pretty alright ball too, no denying.

Gotta say I absolutely loved it.
Wonderful character-centric writing and a very enjoyable world stuffed with details, references, eastereggs and hints.
Great music, great songs. Will watch this several times over.
...
Oh and at the next Galacon I'll shout 'Mayonnaise!' in the main hall. :pinkiehappy:

It's a bonny piece of work. Plenty of wee details that might reward a rewatch or two.

Oh and at the next Galacon I'll shout 'Mayonnaise!' in the main hall.

I suspect at this very second, every con's updating their anti-mayonnaise policies accordingly. They ken fine what all the Discord-esque souls out there are planning.

It was literally delightful! :pinkiehappy:

Carabas, why can't you ever just be miserable and grumpy like me for once? Every time you smile, it's like you're personally pouring sand into my coffee.

Hopefully, I should have a chance to see it tomorrow; I keep hearing good things!
(I was hoping to see it today, buuuut things happened.)

So, fun fact — by pure and simple coincidence, my mom, dad and sister all happened to be out of town for entirely unrelated reasons today, leaving me the house to myself. You bet money I took advantage of this.

Anyway. I really liked the movie! I went in really just expecting a fun movie about cute ponies, and was pleasantly surprised to get that and a good story as well. I saw the twist coming a mile away, but watching its execution was still fun. The characters were all really well-executed, too. Sunny's easily my favorite, though. Really liking the animation, too; it's a treat to look at. I also liked the recasting of the unicorns from city-dwelling snobs to forest-dwelling magic creatures. It's more... fitting, right?

I will say that there are two things that bugged me — I feel that the story was kind of a tease regarding earth ponies (between the twist of needing an earth pony crystal and Hitch's thing with animals it really looked like there was going to be some sort of earth pony magic that got forgotten about, and then there... wasn't), and cutie marks only appearing on one flank with no explanation is honestly just weird — but on the balance it was a very fun ride and I'm happily looking forward to what's next.

Satisfies the dictionary definition and then some.

It's a crime we don't take more selfies together.

5586782
Bonne chance! It's worth a watch.

5586788
The animation was more decent than I was expecting either. Nice and vibrant and a treat to watch. On board for whatever follows.

I do hear you on the lack of follow-through for Hitch's animal affinity and earth pony magic in general. Would have been nice to see that get a bit more attention in the finale or a payoff of sorts. Have him get swarmed by every creature in the same and adjacent time zones once his full magic kicks in, come on.

I also liked the recasting of the unicorns from city-dwelling snobs to forest-dwelling magic creatures. It's more... fitting, right?

"The refined aristo vibe just wasn't working for us anymore. Elves with dance machines and depression is where it's at."

5586802
dance machines and depression is my new band name

also re: earth pony magic: you saw the mid credits tease, yes?

5587517
Just checked it based on that spoiler test, and much obliged for alerting me to that! That's a bonny detail. :pinkiehappy:

5586802
Thanks! I have now seen it, and would concur. :)
I'm even more interested to see what the series does, now, too!

(Also, ""The refined aristo vibe just wasn't working for us anymore. Elves with dance machines and depression is where it's at.""? Lovely phrase-turning, there. :D)

5586788
As for earth pony magic, though, I'm still thinking it might just be that that's subtler and hasn't been noticed yet.
...Actually, though. Something else also just occurred to me, another possibility: the sealing lighthouse is in the earth pony settlement. Maybe earth pony magic wasn't restored because it wasn't sealed in the first place.

...Or something else. There are still many unknowns for the show and/or fanfic authors to explore. :D
I've no idea what's going on with cutie marks only being on the starboard flank (I _think_ it was consistently starboard? If so, there's at least a potential way to remember it there with the steering board compared to the mark of destiny and guiding talent.) either, though. At least, in-universe; I slightly suspect that out-of-universe it was so toys could be made without cuties on both sides and still be show-accurate.

5587517
Oooh! I did see that, but I did not at the time think of that interpretation of it! Yes, that very well might be related; thanks!

5587713
Glad you enjoyed it! Likewise keen to see what a new series does.

5586802 Oh my god, the Pegasi never forcibly seized Canterlot at all. They just moved in, and unicorns decided that meant Canterlot was too whitebread and suburban now, so they built houses in the Everfree forest where a Zebra lived and all moved there.

5588186
"Curse this damnable gentrification, it's enough to drive a zebra to intoxication."

5588187
It probably wasn't that bad until they all started trying to rhyme at Zecora.

5588189
"Is this your wood? It's, er, very good."

"As if I didn't have enough cause for tears, now there's this fresh assault on my ears."

"I'm sorry, we're new to speaking in verse. Eventually, I promise, we'll … be … less worse?"

"Oh, nuts to this, I'm moving to Ponyville."
