I'm posting this because I never expected to see The Legend -- at least, not without paying several hundred dollars for the honor. But someone made a PDF of The Legend. I just finished going through it. And now, I am offering it to you.
I have found The Super Dictionary.
This was published in 1978, as a means of trying to help children learn vital words. And, having just read it, I would say it succeeded. If you get through this book, you will understand 'lunacy'.
I'm not going to paste any sample images, for two reasons: first, I can't get them out of the PDF and second, YOU ARE NOT PREPARED. Nothing I can do will prepare you for this. All you need to know is the following: this is the origin point for Forty Cakes and no matter how insane you think this is going to be, it's crazier.

Also, what is that Legend you speak of? I couldn't get any results from a search (and if I did, I wouldn't have recognized them anyway).
This is a treasure. It should be cherished for the surreal madness on display. You are not prepared.

Is funny how this book spawned the "Lex Luthor has stolen forty cakes" memes, which eventually ended up being part of his lore in one of his many origin stories in the comic books.

Honestly? This isn't bad. Obviously, it's stupid to us older folk who know all these words, but not only are they defined in a simple-to-understand manner, they're made a bit more fun to learn with characters many kids would be somewhat familiar with.

There's a cookbook too. Actually, more than one. A bog standard DC superhero one, and a healthy version.

I don't know. Sure, most kids of an age to get any benefit from this book would recognize Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. The comics fans among them would also recognize Flash and Aquaman. But Firehair? The one time I've seen him (in Showcase #100, I believe) I needed an editors note to find out who he was.
