Well. This is new. And horrible.

I’ll be candid and short, since my typing is currently compromised by lack of computer and a ventilator that makes voice-to-chat darn near impossible.

    UPDATE:

    Another Month, Another Update

It feels somewhat hyperbolic to open with "EVERYTHING IS WORSE NOW", but here we are.

Life Update: Things Suck Bad (rereading everything to get back to writing though!)

It's... been a bit hasn't it? I really shouldn't leave people in the dark so long. But when it's sometimes this dark, I just have to stare at a wall and wonder if any of my (lovely, wonderful, marvelous) watchers really care to hear what's going on.

    Update: Monkey's Paw

"Boy, I know the oncologist said before that he expects the surgery to happen within 2 to 3 weeks, but I hope not. I'd want to be able to move around at least for my birthday. Gee, I wonder what the surgeon is going to say today..."

    And the Monkey's Paw clenches.

GENERAL WARNING. Moroseness and details on bad cancer stuff incoming.

All These Midnight Days: The Ending of the End of the Ending · 5:39am Mar 10th, 2021

When I first got into the MLP community, one of the first things I watched was Friendship Games. Sure, the pacing and logic slips a little, here and there, but it made up for that in its imaginative imagery and musical numbers, as well as the sheer emotional resonance it had with me. It really shouldn't surprise anyone in this fandom that I was a sensitive lad, and got bullied pretty hard all through Middle School. So, seeing the crap Twilight put up with felt very real, at least to me.

And seeing her lose her shit and go full 'shooter' on the school, weaving magical hellfire and tearing the universe apart?

Very scary. Maybe a little cathartic, but scary. Especially to someone who works in the school system, and has at times worried if my worksite would be next. But mostly, it was the fact that this was Twilight Sparkle - Twilight "Fucking" Sparkle - snapping and going full "In place of a Dark Lord you would have a QUEEN" on everyone. A character that, at least in horsey-horse land, was nothing if not a sweet heart, and her human doppelganger had been reduced to this?

It's chilling, really.

On a less-serious note, that was also when I learned to appreciate Midnight Sparkle as a character in her own right. In a lot of ways, the show never had a villain quite like her. Oh, sure... Demon Shimmer and Nightmare Moon were dark corruptions of our second and fourth favorite best-girls/ponies, but neither of them were a Multiversal threat. Even Discord never actually tried to blow up the planet, despite probably knowing one or two ways he could.

In her own words, the more magic Midnight came into contact with, the more she learned magic. That's like a Dragonball villain power! Add that to the fact that she was sundering dimensional walls within seconds of existing, and... quite frankly, she's clearly the most powerful and dangerous of all MLP villains. Bar none.

Yes, even more than your OC.

And that's why I decided to start... um, I decided to second my time here in Fimfic by writing Midnight at the Crystal Library. Partly, I wanted to pick up a bunch of story threads the show left dangling, and also partly I wanted to bring back the baddest villain of the series. And despite the fact that MatCL is over a year old now, and does not reflect my current writing style... it's probably my best story, at least in mimicking the show's style. Hell, if that one "Write an Episode" contest had allowed prewritten entries, I probably would have submitted it.

So, at last, I come to my point. I love the idea of Midnight Sparkle, both as an antagonist and as a protagonist. All These Midnight Days has been a blast to write for a while now, charting the first week or so of Midnight's life as a regular (though still magical) human. Learning to live as her own person, with her own friends, and her own destiny separate from Twilight Sparkle.

That story... is coming to an end. In about 12 hours, I will post the first part of the story's finale. This will most likely be a three-part finale, with a fourth part serving as an epilogue. And while this isn't the last I'll pen of Midnight, it will be the conclusion of her first real tasks and tribulations as a person. The second part is basically finished, and the third will not take very long at all to conclude.

This story... is not very popular, going by the charts. But it's one I believe in. And it's one I'm happy to share with all the... um, three people who read it. :rainbowlaugh:

So... hope you all enjoy the end of the ride.

Well it's a shame to hear it's getting close to completion but glad I've been reading it

Not that one more reader makes that much difference in the statistics, but I do look forward to resuming this when I can give it the attention it deserves. (Touching on your last post, very long chapters are indeed a bit intimidating when you're trying to squeeze in some reading, but they're wonderful when you can actually block out the time.)

I'm so excited for this. Thought i might have to wait for weekend to have time to read it.

Hows this not popular!? Its fucking amazing 😍😍😍!!!!!

I also appreciated midnight as her own character to

Twilight's power and knowledge have always made for a compelling villain. I was driving her nuts and having her crack spacetime years before it was cool. Conversely, that more assertive attitude combined with Twilight's capabilities makes for an intriguing concept for a more benign concept, one that has seen little exploration. Especially after Legend of Everfree said "Don't reconcile with the parts of yourself you don't like, blast them out with rainbows." :facehoof:

In any case, looking forward to the conclusion of what's been a fascinating story.

I really am not happy that this will be ending, I always felt like it deserved and should be way longer than it is, but nonetheless I shall support your decision. Ill try to share your story with as many of my comrades as possible. :)

I wish there were more stories like yours with midnight becoming her own person... I absolutely loved this ride of a story. Thank you for making such an enjoyable experience!! 😊😁👍

Hey, I'm still very much here for the ride. I'll be eagerly looking forward to this conclusion. Good on you for seeing this through to the end!

These stories should get more views but this site prob isn't getting a lot of new users with the show now ended and a bunch of other sorties and series still being uploaded.

But it's good you still doing this despite having a really niche audience.

Yea, they tend to overuse the rainbow lasers. 🌈💥

Make that 4. :raritywink: I hope you make a sequel to it at least. :pinkiehappy:
