Short Hand: Crystal War 1 · 5:23am Nov 18th, 2020
Ponyville was right on the front lines of the conflict. Everywhere Twilight could see evidence of the slaughter. Wounded ponies, wounded soldiers, nurses working overtime in camps. It was terrible to behold.
Pony Soldier: "They're attacking again! GET READY! HEY YOU!"
Twilight: "Ah?!"
Pony Soldier: "If you're a combat mage, help us! We're being-!"
He was grazed by a bullet and fell. A hulking Crystal Empire Trooper loomed over him him, brandishing a pony-style gun.
Twilight; "NO!"
Twilight unleashed a magic blast, and sent him flying away. More Crystal Empire troopers appeared, supported by enslaved pegasi from above. Twilight cast a shield around herself and the soldier, as bombs and projectiles rained down on them. She grit her teeth, and lashed out with her magic to try and keep them at bay.
Twilight: "Don't worry! I can handle this! I can-!"
A huge, hulking humanoid juggernaut stalked towards them. Twilight gasps as she sees a red cape fluttering from its back. It draws a large sword, and charges. Twilight winces.
Twilight: "Oh no! Who is that?!"
The juggernaut swung his blade, and slashed a Crystal Empire soldier in half. He then barreled through the rest of them, killing them quickly and without mercy. He drew a gun and fired on the pegasi, slaughtering them too with his shotgun. The remaining Crystal Empire troops fled in terror, as the Black Knight stood in front of Twilight and the soldier.
Pony Soldier: "It's him... I thought he was just propaganda...!"
Twilight: "What... It can't be...!"
The Black Knight turned, and pulled his helmet off. It was Shepherd-His hair had become pure gray. His face was scarred. His eyes were dark. He slowly walked up to Twilight, as she lowered the forcefield. She was gaping in disbelief at him.
Shepherd: "..."
Twilight: "... Sh-Shepherd...?"
Shepherd: "Good work with the shield. But do it faster next time. Do you know any healing spells?"
Twilight: "I, um, I know a few-"
Shepherd: "Use it now!"
Twilight: "R-Right!"
Pony Warrior: "It's him... The Dark Knight of Equestria... Ser Shepherd!"
That was darker and bloodier than I was prepared for.
