Idle Editing and an Announcement. · 12:18am Jun 4th, 2020
Lately, I've been going back and running a few edits over Dead by Sunset. Returning to it now I can't help but cringe a little bit at how bad my writing was when I was writing it.
Okay well, maybe not bad, that's probably being unfair to me. I like to think I'm a decent writer, and even my older stuff was passable, I think, but the pace and paragraph structure is a mess, the dialogue is choppy in places, the word choice could definitely be better, etc... and that wasn't even all that long ago.
So with that in mind, I've decided to give Dead by Sunset a little bit of polish. It's not going to be rewritten or anything as I think the story definitely still holds up alright, but I'm sure no one will deny that it could use a little bit of TLC in the editing department. It'll be nice to give one of my earlier stories some attention too, and so far I'm up to Rite of the Bell, and I intend to go through the entirety of DBS and touch it up. It's not going to be done with a fine-tooth comb or anything, but it's my hope that it will be a little more palatable to the more discerning readers.
It's still gory, though. That's not changing. It's based on a game that's centered on the dynamic between Slasher Villain and Survivor, so that's gonna stay in the mains.
As for the announcement part...
Two years have passed since Tempest Shadow, Sour Sweet, Starlight Glimmer, and the Siren Sisters escaped from the hellish Trials of the Entity. One year into that passage the friend they thought they had left behind, Sunset Shimmer, found her way home, but she did so on the heels of grim news: that something was tapping into the Entity's power and stealing it.
Or more accurately... someone.
Since then, Sunset and her crew have been diligently at work trying to track down the perpetrator before they can do too much damage, but when a series of murders begin cropping up that could only be the work of Fogborn Killer, Sunset is forced to face the fact that she may be too late. Now the question becomes whether or not they can smoke out the fledgling Killers and their dark master, or if night will fall on Canterlot, and everyone will end up...
Dead by Midnight
P.S. No promises as to a release date on this story, I'm writing it but I also have a lot of other projects I'm working on. Currently, between Fimfiction, my AO3 Account, and my original stuff, I have:
- Dust & Rainbows (Rainbowdust, sequel to Featherfall)
- King & Shy (Sombrashy)
- Ennui (Warhammer 40k, Sororitas/Dark Eldar Succubus)
- Two Original Stories I'm like, 50k/95k words into respectively
I'm trying guys... I'm trying.
Oh man I can't wait for dead by midnight, the first i loved quite a lot, and with you having improved your writing skills it's gonna be awesome.
I'm looking forward to that!
Literally the story I found you from. Your Sunset Shimmer is great and I'll be excited to see the other characters again.
Be sure to put out an announcement when you finish your touch up! I'll need to reread that.
Don't change a thing! The story is perfect as it is oh, also I can't wait for the sequel!
Good luck with all that writing! :D
That's fine, I still have to read your other stories before the sequel.
Man I am excited now, I found you because of dead by sunset and it also got me into the horror genre in general.
Regardless of my premature hype, take all the time you need
Being the first story I read by you, I'm stoked about the possibility of a long-anticipated sequel. Take your time, I've waited this long I can wait some more!
