Fic recs, April 10th: Luvlessi edition! · 3:31pm Apr 10th, 2020
Hey, y'all, local kool dood Super Trampoline did a reading of one of my fics, go check it out. :D
Our next reader would have been Thelooneyturtle, but he's now focused on analysis. Instead, we'll turn to Luvlessi, who, sadly, was only active for two years, four years ago. That's pretty much the standard given how long these channel links have been sitting in my notes for me to do things with. :/ THE LIST:
Daemon McRae's Pity the Rain
SPark's In All but Name
Warren Hutch's Day Dreams and Nightmares
Martian's Dance
Cold in Gardez's Reminiscent
Hodd's One Final Sunset
ArgonMatrix's One Night
Trials's A Wooden Heart
I told you this blog would come quickly. Here's the rest!

Discord and Sombra watch television.
That is a weird title with lots of punctuation. >.> I had been hoping that this story's lack of canonicity in its own 'verse would mean that it could be read alone. Sadly, I was mistaken — the author even says as much in the comments — and should probably have avoided it. I mean, I could have done what I did for WritingSpirit's series, but the first story in this 'verse sounds like princest rape, so I'll pass. It's a shame, because the mention of "Princess Chrysalis" is something I'd really like to know more about, just… not that much. This wasn't funny on its own merits, because I didn't understand what was going on, so I'll give it the rare

In which a handsome and clever Spirit of Chaos is unwittingly trapped in a diabolical plot.
I will never tire of stories written in Discord's smarmy flippancy. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard at a true comedy fic. I don't know if this had much point (it seems to be entirely setup for the sequel), but it was great.

Sequel to A Twilight Sparkle Story
Genre: Comedy
A certain purple horse-thing embarks to the home of a certain wonderful pony with the intent of tattling on a certain completely innocent chaos spirit.
...Gee, Obs, make things confusing, why don't you? So this is the previous story's promise taken to… an extent, if not the fullest, but whatever, it's great. Easily the best "narrator messing with the ponies" story I've ever read, just a bundle of laughs however you stroke it. It's worth noting, this reading has links to two more videos reading further entries in this series. But since those readings are unlisted and those entries have been deleted, I am not going to pursue them. But the option is there, at least, and I figure they're probably good anyway.

The first time we danced, she broke my jaw and I fell in love.
This is a story wrapped around one of those weird metaphors — getting into fist fights with Daring Do is "dancing" — but thankfully doesn't lean too hard on it. Instead, we have a great look at one of Ahuizotl's minions (back when, y'know, they were all actually bad guys), doing things like contemplating what he can steal while attending a book signing with proceeds going to orphans. There's a ton of humor in this, and though his affection for Daring is definitely on the creepy side, she doesn't seem to mind. Overall, I was quite pleased and I think you will be, too. :)

Celestia goes to the vaults under the palace to visit her guest.
This is certainly not the only story I've read wherein one of the princesses goes to speak with Sombra's severed horn. But given that I can't remember any others, this is surely the best of them. I mean, Sombra's tragic backstory is probably not too original… save that it's Sombra's. I've never seen anyone give him that kind of history before. Plus, the way in which this recasts his original show appearance is surprising and well considered. I just never had any idea where this story was going to go, and I was pleased by its every twist.

The immortal pets talk only to each other.
Well, this was a pleasantly bizarre little piece of headcanon, and I have to say, I like how it turned out. I was amused by Owlowiscious's portrayal, and intrigued by which of the six pets aren't immortals. The story plays its concept perfectly straight, and I think that's why it succeeds.

Rainbow Dash's desire to hang out with Pinkie Pie is stymied by Pinkie having a grumpy day.
Oh my god, you guys, this is so fucking cute, I can't stand it. Grumpy Pinkie Pie, Dash admittedly being a snot but figuring things out. And I mean, you get where she's coming from: when does Pinkie Pie have "grumpy days"? I found this unutterably charming from start to finish.

I loved Daring Do and the Dance. Definitely a fun read, at least for my interests.
Wow, that Super Trampoline guy must be pretty swell!

OH BOY
5239931 I liked it too. I think I wound up writing the whole thing in one long session, then polishing for a month or two after to get all the place names right and the flavor of it set.
Daring Do and the Dance has one of the best hooks in the english language .
Luvlessi was a cool dude, a very talented animator and VA. He disappeared one day a few years back and no one's heard from him since. I hope he's ok.
