Winter Update for Sunset of Battle

Going to be a short update.

Chapters 15 and 16 are in the final editing phases now. I'm waiting to publish anything however until after chapters 17 and 18 are done so I have the latitude to tweak 15 and 16 as needed. Once the current story arc is finished I'll start posting the chapters on a weekly basis.

    That is all...

    Like I said; short update.

    A minor alteration...

I made a minor edit to the most recent chapter. There were two little words that had become a massive pain in my arse working on the next chapter. They were, 'to her'. :twilightangry2: It was leading to rabbit holes of character arguments that spiraled into hellish domains where finding a feasible 'out' for Sunset grew dire indeed. After several attempts I've decided to just rip out the root

Nearing the end of Schola Arc, and future planning.

So, as I begin to near the final rise in action for the schola arc of Sunset of Battle I'm looking more and more ahead to what I want to do with the story and where to go next. My general plan is to do a time-skip to when they are novitiates and start the next arc in-media res. But what to do and who to have as the antagonists?

Myths and Birthrights: COMPLETED! · 9:38pm Apr 3rd, 2020

After 8 years, Myths and Birthrights has been marked with the 'Completed' tag.

It has been a long, arduous, and amazing journey writing this story. There were more than a few times that I didn't think I'd every finish, that it would just fizzle away like almost every other novel or multi-chapter story I've tried to write. 'Sins of the Ancients', in particular, haunted me, and I was very concerned that Myths would suffer the same fate.

I've had several editors come and go, with the amazing and extra-ordinary Honey Mead sticking with me the longest. It's really a testament to his endurance that he lasted as long as he did, seeing me from the very first chapters and 'The Longest Night' till the mid-point of the last book. He deserves so much praise, and I don't think I could ever give him enough. Shoot, he even wrote his own story set on Ioka in Canterlot, appropriately titled, The Castle Canterlot. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend doing so! Sometimes I worry I broke his spirit to write and edit, having to put up with my wild flights of fancy or purple prose.

Then there are the artists who have made artwork; Saint Juniper, Nalesia, VardasTouch, Ruhje, InfinityTouch, and EternaNyx-Art. Thank you for taking my commissions, or your fan-art. Going through my artwork folder and seeing your works always brings a smile to my face. I'm just sad that I've not been able to keep in touch with all of you over the years to see what you've gone on to make.

As with all things, there are so many aspects of Myths that make me cringe or that I would do differently. I could hardly list them all. The main ones I put in the final Author's Notes for the story, so I'm not going to repeat them here.

This is more just a big 'Thank You!' to everyone who has read, edited, or in any way been involved in Myths and its side-stories.

But, this isn't the end for the Myths-verse (is that what this is called?) as there is still The Rariad ongoing, and I have little ideas for other stories. I would like to write more about Luna's youth and her various adventures, and there is always the possibility of Myths continuing into a new story. I left plenty of plot hooks open, after all.

Anyways, Thank You, everyone!

And please, stay safe and healthy.

Yaaay I can finally read this thing all the way through! Been waiting years for it to finish. I read about a 1/4 way through and stopped decided to wait sooo worth it.

I know what I’m doing for Easter break.

Time for a reading binge. 🖤

Well shit, I better catch up then.

Good work finishing it.

Thanks! Hope you all enjoying reading it/catching up!

I have yet to read the final two chapters, but I will be honest and say that it didn't feel like the story was coming to an end with the last chapter. More like it was the end of an arc, or perhaps the climax (we have been slowly gearing up for the Twilight vs Hades fight for quite a while, and a fight of such magnitude sounds like a climax to me).

That being said, if your skills as a writer hold strong through these two chapters, I have no doubts that I will be satisfied reading them, albeit sad that it's over. And I will most definitely remain stalking in the shadows, delivering a few comments here and there, watching and waiting for whatever else comes out of this "Myths Verse". It's been one of my favourite stories for a long, long time, not the least of which is because it's just a genuinely exciting premise and well written, and that's to say nothing of the fact that you hit the sweet spot for my love of all things mythology

So, I'll be returning after I've read the chapters and deliver my final thoughts. I just... have to muster the courage, y'know? <.<

5235245
I’m sure I will!

5235251

Thanks! You've been reading and commenting for a very, very long time. Longer than most of the other regulars. I really appreciate the dedication, and your honest criticism when needed. I have doubts that the final chapters will be fully satisfactory. My method of writing has created a lot of loose plot threads or character arcs. I believe I've wrapped up or answered the majority or those that are important, but it wouldn't surprise me if I missed some crucial ones here or there.

5235270
I think I've been here since before the second re-write (I think you did two?), but being noticed as someone who's "been here for a very, very long time" is... Well, I'm sort of imagining a video game-like tooltip popping up saying "You Feel Validated!"
It's surprising, and yet makes me quite happy, to know that I've been noticed  And your story earned my dedication by being an Alicorn Twilight Fanfic in the beginning (I was a sucker for those. Become more picky since), and then later on just by being a compelling story.

As for being fully satisfactory... Well, you did say you still had ideas and might continue it in some fashion, so I'll refrain from tearing it a new one :derpytongue2: Jokes aside, I have levied some criticism at you before, but only when it felt warranted, or there was something I thought bore mention. I hope I have managed to stay respectful when I've done that. You always seemed very receptive and positive about it, so I hope I succeeded in that endeavour.

...I got off topic. What I meant to segway into, was that I won't be treating any loose plot threads as crimes against literacy, or hold them against you, as there are things left over for other stories. Like The Rariad (still greatly looking forward to that one continuing... Poor Trixie).

5235286

I'm actually expanding the scope of the Rariad with what happens on Gaea. I want to have more nods towards the Iliad and Odyssey. Like having somebody have to sneak into a besieged city. Chariot fights! The gods holding councils and trying to figure out what to do without breaking Zeus' decrees. That sort of thing.

And you've always managed to be respectful. The vast majority of readers have, as I recall. Criticism comments are always hard for me, and I often read them in snippets, calm down, and then read some more before being able to respond to them. The more pointed comments taking longer to process. I think that other than the arguments that surfaced around Celestia fostering Tyr, pretty much everyone was respectful. My, those were interesting and taxing times. :twilightblush:

5235287

Thanks! Its such a huge weight gone on one hand, and so much anxiety on the other as I wait to see how people respond.

Let me guess, people were mad because a character showed that they weren't flawless?
I understand very well what it's like screaming at a fictional character for doing dumb stuff (I'm looking at you, Harry Dresden!), but taking it out on the author is unwarranted.

Glad to hear I managed to be nice. I've not always been so good at it, and have been called out on it in the past. Seemed I learned my lesson!

And hoo-wee. I am partway (like 20%) through The Illiad... Maybe I should focus more on reading it so I know what to expect from Rarity.

By the way, Rarity is the Goddess of Beauty... Does that mean she is sort of an equivalent to Aphrodite? In which case... I hope she never meets a guy called Paris. Or whatever the pony-pun-name equivalent is.

Congratulations! So great seeing such a long running fic come to its conclusion!

I've been tracking since the original version, with the original cover, at some point i commented that Twilight's family was too small for the setting, and that seemed to help inspire the background setting for the amazing Velvet Sparkle and the Queen in Stone (I even got to name two of the minor characters!), and now it's finally complete.

I admit i havent kept track since around mid 2018 due to some life changes, i just dont have the time to keep track and read as much stuff online anymore, but this filled me with joy.

I'm feeling pony again right now, and we all need a good book these days (and have free time to spare in some cases), i think its time to get comfortable and start from the beginning again, and all the way through this time, im sure it will be as exciting and satisfying as all your work is.

Thank you for your time and dedication, you've made my day (and actually, a lot of them over the course of the last decade). Cheers!

Well congrats and the epic story and finishing it

Great job dude!! I shall was it on my phone to read as an epub. I have been looking forward to seeing how it ends :)

Congratulations! Time to pick it up again!

Thanks! Hope you enjoy the story.

5235301

Something to that effect, as I recall. The bulk of the controversy was a long time ago, now.

5235450

Life changes and evolves, and priorities shift. I'm glad you have the time to read again, just wish the circumstances were better.

5235994
Well, I hope it doesn't happen again. Angry readers, that is. Characters doing stupid things always happens :derpytongue2:

Hot damn. Never thought I'd see the day. Thanks for the absolutely fantastic ride man. One of the best pieces of work of this site. 8 years... damn, must have been here for 6 at least.

Yay, time to get back to it. Life's been busy and haven't been on fimficion for a while, but I'm glad to see this story wrapped up. I was also a reader of the original version, then decided to wait until it was finished as the rewrites started so I could keep everything straight.
Looking forwards to it! It has been one of my favorite stories on this site.
