    Finally made it to Babscon

What a long strange trip it's been. This is much harder to do on the fly with a disabled girlfriend than flying solo. Honestly it's a good lesson but yeah I'm here I'm queer and I'm ready to party with my peers and also apparently work at the conop's desk for the next few hours once I get GS electric wheelchair out and charging. As always look for the short fat white guy currently with a beard

    BABSCon 2024

Facebook places who's going to Bay area brownie spectacular convention at the end of the month? It'll be my first pony convention in like 2 years almost cuz finances have been shit and I've been taking care of my disabled girlfriend etc but she is going to be coming with me and going to her first Brony convention since 2013 Equestria LA, when she was harassed a bunch and dealt with a ton of

    On Death

I call myself a hopeful agnostic. I vigorously want there to be an afterlife, where there's joy, justice, and fellowship for all God's creatures, great and small. I am unbelievably terrified of the prospect that one day I will cease to exist. And I want so desperately for all entities across space and time who have felt hurt and pain and suffering and helplessness and confusion and fear to feel

"Quotes About" Stories Have Been Taken Down By Meeester the Luddite. · 8:35pm Jan 16th, 2020

Sorry about that, folks.

The Luddites were totally right about how the proceeds of mechanization would be hoarded entirely by the mill and factory owners and that the machines would be used to destroy the guild system (analogous in many days to modern day unions) and how the spread of these machines would be used to result in the horrifying working conditions that did indeed emerge (children working 20 hours days for barely enough money to buy themselves some bread). In return for being absolutely correct and right in all things and doing literally nothing wrong ever, the Luddites were murdered and brutally repressed and their name was turned into a smear by the bourgeois-owned papers and politicians.
Luddite should never be used as an insult. Just call him a Boomer or something.

Although it does suck that you're stories got taken down.

Huh. I mean. I can completely get behind his reasoning, but the bit where he's, like, "yeah, there's not enough of this thing for us to say it's banned, but it's totally banned" feels a bit sketchy, and is probably a good argument for the rules to be amended for greater transparency.

I can see Meeester's point, but I don't know if I agree that the story is necessarily "low-quality". I don't know how much time you spent working on the story or how much it showed.

If the whole story was busted out very rapidly and made no sense at all, I'd probably agree with him. But there can be value to found art, when time and care is taken to polish the gems.

Also, you can probably publish those stories as blog entries, because those are not subject to the same restrictions. I'd check with the mods first, though.

Maybe you could combine all of them into a collection, or something? If the problem is being able to spam with loew effort stories, perhaps if you made it just one story, and explained the concept a little more clearly, it might be more ok. I can see where they're coming from, since we already get enough spam from people mass adding stories to groups, so if people could just post AI generated stuff all the time someone would probably use it to post like, 50 stories in a week or something.

Oof, I vaguely knew there were some politics involved but not that it was this bad. Thank you for educating me.

I’d love to, but since I wasn’t fast enough in unpublishing them, he not only unpublished them but completely deleted them. They don’t show up in my list of unpublished stories.

5187554
You should be able to request them from him. Anything that you've posted they have a record of.

...So... they aren't common enough to have a rule banning them, meaning that judgements are made on a case-by-case basis, but this one was still made on a basis of how they could be used to churn out a high volume of bad content, rather than on this actual individual low-volume case?

"Tell me no more of old Robin Hood,
whose feats are no longer admired.
I'll sing the praises of General Ludd,
new hero of Nottinghamshire!"
, or something like that, I recall.

5187516
Yeah, pretty much.

5187554
Ow, sorry. And no local copies, then, I assume.
I checked FIMFetch just now but didn't see them, too (though I've had trouble
with its search function before).

5187573
Ah, well that's good; thanks!

Good luck, Super Trampoline!

These fall under "stories you didn't write." Maybe the language of the rule should be updated, and likely will if we get a lot more of these, but other rules don't need every specific fringe case spelled out in detail. But come on, if an AI wrote it, then you didn't write it.

Also the stories in question had zero narrative structure. They were random, disjointed sentences that had nothing to do with each other, and weren't even structured in paragraphs or anything. Some lines had script-like "CHARACTER: 'dialogue' " type formatting, other lines within the same story didn't, and there was nothing even close to a narrative thread running from start to finish. Even if the stories in question had been entirely human-created, or if we allowed AI-written stories, they would still have been removed for not being stories.

5187554
If you don't have them backed up anywhere, I can send them to you.

5188121
Ah, thank you for the explanation and the preservation.

5188121
If you implemented the AI yourself, I would argue that you did in fact write it. (There's legal precedent for this.)

Even if you didn't implement the AI, it would depend upon how much input you as the creator are applying to create the final product. For example, if you run ten thousand iterations in order to find one that fits what you want, this is still highly creative. From another perspective, I don't think anypony would say if you use ponyficprompts "you didn't write the story because you used a random prompt generator to come up with the theme".

So although I'd agree it's a safe call in Tramp's case, it isn't necessarily a black-and-white situation in the general case. It just isn't likely to come up because authors are so unlikely to do something like this.

Also, thank you for the input.

That's a fair point, and the fact that this is going to become such a grey area is part of why the rule doesn't specifically talk about it right now. I can definitely see the use of an AI as a starting-point-generator type thing which actually helps the humans using the tech produce better stories than they could have alone, and I can also see hordes of zero-effort "Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash" tier "comedy" stories being blasted all over the site and drowning out everything else. No real way to know what's going to happen until it starts to happen. It'll be interesting, for sure.

Also the stories in question had zero narrative structure. They were random, disjointed sentences that had nothing to do with each other, and weren't even structured in paragraphs or anything.

As a surrealist, absurdist, and Dadaist, that was a feature, not a bug for me.

If you don't have them backed up anywhere, I can send them to you.

Please and thank you :)

Sent each as a separate PM to make it easier to copypaste them elsewhere. Let me know if anything doesn't look right to you.

5188261
Would it be too much work to send the pictures that were the cover pics and pics at the end of each story and the first comment? Or if it’s easier you can just I undelete them but keep them unpublished; I Pinkie Pie swear I won’t try to publish them as stories again; I’ll just be able to directly find the 18 different images I used.

I don't know why I didn't just do that to begin with. That would have made everything a lot easier.
