Good News, Bad News, Worse News, and Horrible News · 4:43pm Sep 24th, 2019
The good news is that I saved hundreds on my car insurance by switching to Geico.
Hopefully by now you realize that I’m joking (I don’t have a car ).
Those of you that don’t get the title reference, that’s a shame, but if you don’t get the one right there, then you must be living under a rock.
With internet access.
Somehow…
Or you don’t live in the US— I’d let that slide.
Anyway.
I do have a little bad news, but I actually have two bits of awesome news, and that comes first.
First off, I’m happy to say that after a lot of ‘window shopping,’ I’ve finally signed a lease for an apartment. I don’t have to rush to go out and move, since I don’t actually have full access to the place until mid-late October, but I have signed, and that means it’s officially ‘mine.’ I just have to contact the utility companies, get my cable connected, bring in all the furniture… introduce myself to the neighbors… figure out my budget… well, many of you probably know the drill.
The one that’s really got me a little giddy, though, is that after ages of searching, then speaking with a Chair of the Board of Directors, as well as the President/CEO today (I met the former through someone in my congregation, so I guess it’s true that it’s not what you know, it’s who you know…), I finally have a job. Well, some kind of job. We’re working out the details since I could go to practically any department. Amazingly, it’s a position with LiveOnNY, which is New York’s designated OPO, or Organ Procurement Organization. If you don’t know what that means, OPOs, and I quote, “are structured to include services such as donor family support, clinical management of organ donors, and professional and public education.” You can probably get a basic gist just from that, but there is much more to it than that, too much for me to list, so if you want to get more of an idea, just google ‘OPO’ and you’ll find the site that explains them in more detail at the top.
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you understand why that’s so amazing. If you haven’t, well, it’s simple: as a two-time heart transplant recipient—and one whose father did it—organ donation is a huge deal in my family. I’ve been on both sides, recipient and donor family. With me working at LONY, everything has basically come full circle. Oh, and on a related note, today is the one-year anniversary of my second heart transplant. Talk about timing, right?
But yes, there actually is kinda bad news: I feel like anybody here that ever has good news like this tends to say something to this effect, but because I’ll now actually have work work, it does mean that I’ll likely have less time to work on DaD, particularly if I keep editing as a side gig (like I’m doing right now with an author named Annabelle Hunter).
You’ll be happy to know, though, that I have finished five more chapters from DaD’s last break point—I just need to finish editing them—and I think I’d be comfortable publishing them as my next ‘update cluster.’ I promise you, though—and I feel like I say this a lot—no matter how little time I may have due to work now, I will finish the story, no matter how long it takes. I don’t care that Gen 5 is coming up, and I’m sure many of you don’t, either. Many of us will still likely be starting and continuing FiM-centered fics. I mean, this is Fimfiction-dot-net. That said, there’s a lot more left to tell for Cotton and Spike, so please don’t give up on them just yet.
Until next time, folks!

Wow, congratulations on the apartment and job, buddy! That’s really exciting news, particularly since you’re working at a place so near and dear to you.
Congrats on the job and apartment.
Congratulations on the good news. :)
Awesome and grats!
Congrats, bud. You've earned it.
Dude.... congrats on the job and the apartment
I don't know the title reference, and you had me slightly worried. Congrats on the job though, and for one at such an interesting organization for you.
