You know what they say about the best laid plans? I'll be real brief with this update, for reasons that will be self-evident.

State of the Scribe: February 2024

Another month, albeit the shortest of the year. I still haven't had a chance to get into the process side of my writing and write that detailed plan for the year, been too busy writing a novel. Guess that's a good problem to have.

State of the Scribe: January 2024

This is exactly the 71st month I've posted a patreon calendar. Almost but not quite six years of writing fanfic, sharing all these ideas with you that would otherwise stay trapped in my head. I couldn't begin this post, and the beginning of a new year without expressing my profound thanks to everyone who keeps supporting me. Your help, big or small, is the only reason I'm still able to write

New Story: The First Willowbrook Christmas!

Hey pones! A Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! Last year I wrote a short story for the holiday, but the editing pushed it back for a little while. For those who enjoyed Sisters of Willowbrook, I have a story for you to check out! The final chapter will get posted tomorrow:

Message in a Bottle: Print Run · 7:55pm Feb 1st, 2019

Hey everypony, I have something really special to announce today, something I've been asked about so many times I've just gone ahead and decided to get it done. Message in a Bottle is about to receive a hardcover print edition! The details are all here: https://igg.me/at/starscribe

So, for those who don't want to click away, I'll explain the basics right here. The project is going to run for the month of February, and will be fixed funding. This means that if we make our goal, everyone will get their books. If we don't, no one will be charged. Anyone familiar with the publishing industry will be about to guess why this might be. Printing has a fixed cost, which decreases as the quantity we're printing goes up.

Anyone who's read Message in a Bottle knows it's not exactly a short story. In fact, printing the entire book in a single hardcover would basically be impossible, given it's half a million words long. This project will instead be a printing of the first story, up until the lifting of the quarantine, with a second book to follow if this project succeeds.

This book will include a never-before released short story, that won't be published anywhere else but this book. There are also a few little perks on the project for those who want to support me more directly.

If anyone reading this message would like to be a part of the project and get their hands on the deluxe hardcover print, please check out the project page and help us make this book a reality! And if you can't, or aren't really in the mood for pony books, please feel free to share the link with anyone you think might be.

Oh, so that's how President Lucky "L. B." Break looks...

I always pictured her a redhead, with fuzzy mane and tail and slightly less fuzzy cream colored coat

5006295
They went over that all of the early clones look the same, a yellow coated mare with a blue mane and tail.

5006295
The very first chapter has always had a drawing of Lucky Break in it.

How much does it cost to ship to Canada?

5006362
$10 for all international shipping. That has the potential to bite me if people order a hundred copies from Tanzania or something, but it should be alright otherwise.

This is a story I wouldn't mind seeing on my shelf in hardcover form.

Sweet! Granted, it's another one that's been on my to-finish list for ages (I don't even know anything about a quarantine), but I've read enough to think it's worth finishing, so it also seems worth a binding.

$810 USD raised by 14 backers. 115% of $700 fixed goal
28 days left

I think you made your goal......within the first day.

5006419
Yeah, that was amazing how fast that came in! I don't want to clutter up people's dashboards, but I'll make a post about it tomorrow announcing that we got funded.

5006424
you got funded and then some! You should have set the goal just a bit higher.

The pic is so CUTEEE

Also, super happy about this

5006430
Well everyone who wants to can still be part of the project! That goal was just the minimum to pay for the printing of the books. Any more people who get involved will only make it better.

Wait sorry for being a noob..
But is this funding or the book itself?
And what's the difference?
Very new to this and it's really interested me.
Also what's the cost?
Or are these things just not determined yet?
:twilightblush:

Is Hasbro okay with small-scale selling of physical books? I suppose it's okay with selling hand-made plushies, but I have no idea about fanfics.

As a hardcore Lightning Dust fan and a reader of the story from the first day it went up to the day the last chapter was posted, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be getting my hands on this - not to mention that from my memory of some other printings of MLP fanfiction, this is pretty reasonably priced too

5006526
The project will get you the book. As of now, it has been funded, so anyone who joins the project at the link will get the link.

5006538
same here, it is one my fav sci fi pony fics,

Well it looks like you just broke $1000. ;)

Once I come up with the cash, I'll submit an order.

Hmm. I haven't read message in a bottle yet, but I've enjoyed all your other works. I'll definitely think about it

Can I ask what's up with the discounts? Nobody's paid full price, and the price should only get cheaper as the goal is exceeded. Was it just a marketing thing? :derpytongue2:

5006839
Indiegogo requires a "theoretical retail price" in order to sell on their site. No one will be charged that price, as this book will never be offered in retail.

5006887
Are you only selling it from indiegogo? Or is there another way to buy the book?

5006945
Only from Indiegogo in the short term. It's possible I'll be able to sell them in other ways after the print run, but I can't promise it will ever happen.

There's been an impressive amount of printing projects lately and many of them have been fics I haven't read or even heard of. Often I get in a real hurry to try to read enough of the fic to decide if I should get the book or not. :twilightoops:

This time I made up my mind after only three chapters though – and then continued reading nonstop for another three hours. So, count me in!
