You know what they say about the best laid plans? I'll be real brief with this update, for reasons that will be self-evident.

State of the Scribe: February 2024

Another month, albeit the shortest of the year. I still haven't had a chance to get into the process side of my writing and write that detailed plan for the year, been too busy writing a novel. Guess that's a good problem to have.

State of the Scribe: January 2024

This is exactly the 71st month I've posted a patreon calendar. Almost but not quite six years of writing fanfic, sharing all these ideas with you that would otherwise stay trapped in my head. I couldn't begin this post, and the beginning of a new year without expressing my profound thanks to everyone who keeps supporting me. Your help, big or small, is the only reason I'm still able to write

New Story: The First Willowbrook Christmas!

Hey pones! A Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! Last year I wrote a short story for the holiday, but the editing pushed it back for a little while. For those who enjoyed Sisters of Willowbrook, I have a story for you to check out! The final chapter will get posted tomorrow:

Another month, albeit the shortest of the year. I still haven't had a chance to get into the process side of my writing and write that detailed plan for the year, been too busy writing a novel. Guess that's a good problem to have.

Let's go over this month quick. It's a month of endings, for several different stories that have been with us for a long time. First of these is Spirits of Change, the pokemon story set in a variation of the His Dark Materials universe. Keep your eyes out for a PDF of the whole thing, as soon as I have a suitable cover.

Digital Effigy will also finally be coming to an end, after vastly exceeding the designed length of that story. Crazy that a brief oneshot somehow grew to becoming so enormous! Obviously a lot more could be done in that universe, but I do hope the ending will be satisfying.

Other stories continue, though they are at least reasonably close to an ending. Beyond the Veil of Sleep will probably be the next to go,  followed by Hand of the Ancients--but not this month. All of those still have some ground left to cover.

Still have a few monthly stories that are just starting off, crazy to look at these at the beginning of their journeys while these ones are ending. Kinda like walking past a freshman on your way to graduation.

I am trying to spend more of my time on original fiction, like Forerunner's Child there on the update schedule. We'll see if any of those publications end up amounting to anything. I've written millions of words of ponies now, so I'm trying to expand my horizons there.

I continue to be grateful for your support, allowing me to write so much. Where one slot empties, a new one opens. Expect big things. In the meantime, I'll close with my usual list of ongoing stories, with links to their first chapters.

Forerunner's Child follows a colony made entirely of children, as a new explorer must uncover its secrets before she's subsumed into the strange colony. https://www.patreon.com/collection/216543?view=expanded

I wasn't expecting Spirit of Change to be ending so soon. On the other hand, I suppose the loss of linearity would make further chapters a lot more trouble to tell. Thank you for that one in advance; I've been enjoying it immensely.
Also, I really need to catch up on Digital Effigy. :twilightsheepish:

It will get an anthology in future to take advantage of the non-linear structure and see more characters. Still in development, but we should see it this year.
