I'm...Not quite sure how I feel right now. I'm tired though, so I won't post it just yet. Not without being able to check for errors while more awake. 7k that I just finished, with a serious desire to add at least one more chapter. It's mostly wrapped up. This monster is pretty much done.
And I don't know how I feel about that.
I started this story oh so long ago, mostly out of anger because people were taking a wonderful story idea and throwing it away. I kept adding to it and before I knew it I had this impossible and intimidating Jenga tower of plotlines and ideas that I was worried would topple at any given time. But I knuckled down and got through it. I pushed it, and as I type what I feel are the closing paragraphs of one of my first and my absolute biggest story, I feel everything. I feel dread. I feel excitement for both the completion of my work and the knowledge that I did what I set out to do; I crafted another world based on the simple premise of "MC ends up as Nightmare Moon". A world filled with characters I created, a world that grew beyond anything I'd hoped to ever make. Even now, I read through old chapters and the scale of this project sends chills down my spine.
My only hope is that the ones who read this, who read the last few bits, feel like their time was well spent. That the world that was laid out before them was as engaging to read as it was to create. That they shared my tears, my anger, my joy. That they look back on time spent on this story fondly.
At the end of the day, believe that's all any writer can do.
I've rather enjoyed the story, it's been quite a ride.

I can assure you that the story ranks definitly on the top of my list. It was a ton of fun to read and I love your take on the Nightmares.
I laughted, I laughed more and bathed in the blood that was spilled as the plot continued. I felt anger at the atrocities comitted by your antagonist and spend a few drops of liquid pride as everything (kinda) worked out.
All I can say is: Thank your for your time writing this story and giving us Changelings a Moment to shine whithout loosing all of our teeth.

Also, your skin is a little dry... you should moisturize more so that it doesn't feel like I'm licking sandpaper when you're asleep.
Its definitly one of my favorite stories, along with some of your other works.

Looking at the upvotes that this story has accumulated, I think you're safe in assuming that people like it. I certainly count myself among those, having eagerly devoured every new chapter since your hiatus.

Substitute Demon is being wrapped up and finished in the next chapter? That feels.....awfully quick for what's left as far as plotlines go. There's still the war with the minotaurs to do, finding the Nightmare, and after that, there would probably need to be a final chapter wrapping everything with an epilogue of sorts to tie up any loose ends(such as the remaining changeling queens and the changeling race in general) that may be left.
Regardless, I can't wait to read what you've written. This is one of my favorite stories, so seeing it end leaves me both excited and melancholy at the same time.

Yes. Yes it most definetly have been well spent for every line of text i have read and re-read on this story for all these last years since i first found it.
I feel i will be sad seeing this story coming to an end but none the less i will see it to the end and sign it off with a smile.

Do you have any plans for other takes on the human-becomes-villain concept? In particular, I'd love to see either grogar or discord as sombra seems too close to your r63 nightmare and changelings seem well covered. Not to say you couldn't make them unique as well.

the thing is, Cairn isn't really a problem Cimmerian needs to deal with. And as it is, the Nightmare is currently experiencing changes that show it to have been altered in some way. Before it was doing everything it could to cause more damage, but last they heard of it, the thing was quietly disappearing under the cover of a monster attack. As much as I like seeing all of the loose ends dealt with, Sometimes it's really not up to the hero to deal with things.

The biggest question I'd ask when looking to write such a story is "why are you doing it?". If it's smut, own it. Make it silly, make is serious, whatever you like, but don't assume people are going to look at it as anything else unless you really put some effort into it. Twisted fate and Cost of Asylum are both smuts with a heavy reliance on story, no matter how much I like where the story went. Another thing to think of is how the story starts and why? Just dropping the MC off somewhere with those powers for no known reason seems cheap. If you want to hold on to the reason until later that's one thing, but there is a limited list of things humans can do to end up in Equestria without changing the rules of earth. Heck, that could be one: a 'magic returns to earth' apocalypse, with the high-energy environment killing most people and some of them just disappearing in flashes of light during high-stress incidents.
Just try to avoid anything lazy, even if it's played for laughs. That's my biggest pet peeve of the displaced stories. "Stop me if you've heard this before" and "So I was at a convention" are two things that instantly make me walk away from a story.
This will be one of those stories I'll remember and look back at for years to come.

if you find yourself daunted, i recommend rewriting the first few chapters, like 3-4. they are of much lower quality than the rest of the story
