Okay and what's the problem?

I haven't seen any spoilers, or even seen the Season so far (will finally get a chance to catch up with a marathon next week,) but I have to take this guess in advance:

Is this the one where Lightning Dust teaches Scootaloo how to fly :trollestia:?

4921195
Dude's just probably being a troll. You get them from time to time. Me personally, I'm just going to enjoy the fact that Lightning's back, and see if she finally works out her ego's writing checks her body can't cash. Yes, I had to do that. And no, not sorry.

4921205
That sounds about right.

4921199
And nearly breaks her neck in the process.

Edit: Scootaloo's I mean.

4921207
I was only kidding, but yay for a good guess :rainbowlaugh:

(Like, seriously, I haven't seen any of the new material besides what's made it the front page here. There's a Friendship School now, I guess? And a changeling girl is attending? Changelings have girls now? And so do yaks?)

Ah yes Lightning Dust is back! Please let something positive be going her way by the end of this...

4921210
She nearly killed Scootaloo.

derpicdn.net/img/view/2018/8/17/1808874__safe_edit_edited+screencap_screencap_lightning+dust_pinkie+pie_party+of+one_the+washouts+%28episode%29_spoiler-colon-s08e20_drama_earth+pony_f.jpeg

Meanwhile, in a parallel universe in which Lightning Dust DOES get redeemed, fans are complaining that the show should definitely stop redeeming all the villains…

4921163
It’s really that bad?

4921222
No. It's just mad fans because Lightning Dust didn't get redeemed.... keep in mind these are the same folks that complain about every villain seemingly being redeemed.

4921230
Hypocrisy at its finest.

4921230
I don’t complain about every villain getting redemption, but Dust is one that I really hoped would.

4921232
Aaand why is that when she's clearly Rainbow if she let her bad points take over her life? She nearly kills Scootaloo. She values her own pride over everything.

4921232
The problem is that she's too apathetic towards the idea of her actions having consequences for others. At least Starlight actually backed down when she knew how badly her actions would screw over all of Equestria, when Lightning Dust was given the rundown on how badly things could have turned out, she brushed it off like it was no big deal.

4921235
Because back in Wonderbolts Academy, Spitfire and Rainbow both failed in their duties as a commanding officer and a fellow cadet to help teach proper discipline by failing to show it until things had gotten out of hand. Dust wasn’t the only guilty party yet she was the only one who got punished. Her pride was the only thing she really had and then it became her own undoing. She deserves better treatment than the writing she’s been given. As such I will always have sympathy for her. Dash has absolutely no idea what being Lightning Dust is like because Dash has everything going for her while Dust has little.

4921247
Oh get OVER YOURSELF with Lightning Dust. She was out for number and only that. As actually someone who was under the command of a Sergeant during ROTC for the army? This bitch was LUCKY she got demoted. If this were real life SHE'D BE COURT MARTIALLED. Oh but it's SPITFIRE'S fault for having faith and TRUST in Lightning not to get her fellow cadets in trouble/killed because not being an ego maniac is such a hard fucking concept. Oh and sorry but notice to how unlike it seems everyone else? Dash was very nervous and unsure of HOW the place worked and just went with what Lightning did at first BECAUSE SHE WAS HER PARTNER. No there are times and places where I could see your point but nearly killing others is where I draw the line after breaching their trust. Up. Lightning Dust's.

4921247
Not true, RD worked to get exactly where she is, as shown in several other episodes. Lightning may have had a similar experience, but the problem is that she remained too apathetic towards the concerns of others to actually consider her the ramifications of her actions.

Case in point, her debute episode where she blatantly disregarded the fact that she could have gotten Twilight and her friends killed or seriously injured. RD even tried to talk her out of doing the tornado in the first place but she refused to listen.

4921250
Applauds Thank you, for knocking some sense into that idjit. Lightning got off lightly. I've watched the Military Bronies React to Wonderbolts Academy, and I admit I'm a fan of Lightning Dust for whatever reason (Maybe because she's such a good foil to Rainbow) but half of the crap she did, that stuff alone would not fly (Bad pun, excuse me for that) at a real-world flight school.

4921253
Agreed. I like her FOR being such a good foil. Moreso then Gilda being a bad guy. She's a rough friend but one that can be helped none the less.

4921209
TL;DR: Twilight opened to special school for various species from across Equestria and beyond in order to strengthen the bonds of unity between races. The student 6 consists of one Earth honey, Griffin, a dragon, a changeling, a yak, and a hippogriff/Seapony.

This is an okay episode.

I just hope Scootaloo will be able to fly in the future. I mean there's many kinds magic and potions that can help her. If none of these options work then she can either get wing surgery or wing prosthetics like the one Rainbow Dash had in that alternate timeline episode.

Now I'm waiting for an episode where Cozy Glow finally admits her true intentions and gets thrown into a pit full of ferocious puppies and gets a well deserved snuzzling as punishment for her sins.

4921230
Not at all. I've never complained about every villain getting redeemed. I just feel this episode could have given LD more depth instead of flanderizing her to make the heroes in the right.

4921263
This wasn't flanderizing. This is Lightning Dust after her character development. AKA she refused to change and blames others for their problems. Because sadly there ARE people like this in the real world.

4921264
Idk man, she feels like she got even worse than she was before. And it isn't the first time this season I've gotten that feeling from other characters. The episode feels like it did so little with her and kept things the same on a basic level. Which is the cause of my first comment.

4921267
Which is the point. She never improved. She isn't just a random one shot villain she's Rainbow if her ego mattered more. And in the end it did.

4921267
4921278
I apologize for the whole debate thing. I do still sympathize with Dust because I do think her character deserves better just like we all do. That's never going to change. That doesn't mean I think Dust shouldn't have been punished after Wonderbolts Academy. Her ego is as far-reaching as Pluto, that much is inarguable. I'm just disappointed the episode didn't go into more depth and instead flanderized her (yes, she was flanderized, her pride being the only character trait she was written to have, only cranked up to 12 instead of 11) and this episode pretty much means we won't see her again unless they pull another Mean Six on us with Dust in place of Chryssy. Again I apologize for the debate.

And my opinion of this season drops even lower.
I know the redemption club has been bloated and overloaded, but Lightning Dust's redemption was supposed to be in the first episode and only didn't exist because it was cut for time!

4921278
And she was supposed to be redeemed at the end of the original episode, but then that got cut for time. This feels like a cheat.

4921310
Or you know it works better because apparently this series has enough redeemed villains. Not to mention Lightning got off way too fucking easy the first time and this feels more like a proper blow to her ego. She herself logically would not change. So what if she was 'redeemed' at the end of her first debut in the original plans? That's not the case NOW is it? I'm really tired of explaining WHY she's such a better overall 'villain' then 'redeemed' character then other folks. You and everyone that thinks like you need to get your heads out of the sand and learn that people like her need to make their OWN changes. If they didn't at the end of their debut episode and seem to keep that same attitude? Then yeah they're not going to change. Get. Over. It.

4921305
Her pride nearly killed five national heroes and she didn't bat a damn eyelash. She is not sympathetic. She's a disgrace. Learn it.

4921311
Dude. You need to calm down.

4921313
And Rainbow Dash blew up the whether factory so she wouldn't have to be without her pet for three months. The point is this series is full of epic moments of stupidity.

4921322
Yes and she paid for it but oh no Lightning dust can't because she was meant to be redeemed in a non-canon ending. Yeah that makes sense. And this IS me being calm. Maybe you need to get off your high horse and understand just because someone talks back to you doesn't mean they're not calm.

4921325
Okay first I agreed with you about Lightning and her pride and I still do, but you constantly throwing around insults? Not helping your case man.

Maybe you need to get off your high horse and understand just because someone talks back to you doesn't mean they're not calm.

Pot calling kettle black.

4921313
National heroes who were trespassing on government property, on a training ground that would've been dangerous regardless, while in a hot air balloon.

4921330
Okay then. Sorry I was not taking crap from someone who thought Lightning was supposed to be redeemed because she's entitled to it. Sorry that I'm really tired of seeing Alex just waltz in on a conversation and he talks like he's the only one in the right. Treating my response to someone else like it's some kind of 'proof' that Lightning is 'mistreated' by the show runners like how somehow the rest of the season is. Sorry that I'm really sick and tired of being walked on by other folks.

4921331
I'm really not in the mood for this right now so whatever. You think that and I'll think differently. We good with that?

4921334
Yeah man. Hey if it's any consolation, I'm not looking to push my opinion on you, despite initially sounding otherwise, just looking for a good debate with someone.

4921334

Oh VampDash it's just a cartoon.

4921353
*sigh* I know it is but I'm.... this fandom annoys me at times and this was one of those times I let the annoyance get the better of me.

4921354

Just move along don't get angry over a silly cartoon, It's a good Cartoon yes but don't take it serous.

What the hell is wrong with the writers? They bring back a relatively well-liked character, and instead of having her reconcile with Rainbow Dash, they make her an even bigger bitch as though to say, "See? We don't redeem all our villains."

They should stop redeeming actual villains and instead redeem mistreated characters. This was wasted potential of immeasurable proportions.

4921379
This is basically sums my thoughts in my first comment. Except far better written out (I suck at conveying my thoughts the way I want to ok?)

4921379
It's Lightning's pride. She just never will admit she's been a moron, and her stupidity landed her where she is today. She's Rainbow Dash's foil simple as that. She just took her character development in the exact opposite direction as Rainbow, not growing up and maturing and soundly proving she was definitely not Wonderbolt material. As much as I hate to agree with Vampdash now, there are people in this world who will never change and never admit to their problems. It's a harsh moral, but one I think the show needed to teach.

4921396
We already saw that lesson with dudes like Iron Will and especially the last two episodes to feature our two favorite con-ponies.

4921331
It was only dangerous because of the tornado Lightning Dust decided she and Rainbow should create to take out the last of the clouds, even though they were already way ahead of the other cadets.

4921410
No. It is; for all intents and purposes, a government training facility, as the wonderbolts are a military force. Spitfire even got mad in a later episode because civilians were trespassing iirc.

4921413
That was when the main Wonderbolt team were in the middle of a training exercise. Spitfire had no problem with Twilight visiting the Academy during "Top Bolt".

And the exercises the cadets had undertaken by that point were mostly flying and cloud-busting. Nothing that should have been dangerous to others.
