An important message for a dark subject, give a read

Pen Dragon has made an passionate and important petition, one I think is best served by their own words. So please, for the sake of a benign website that has brought such entertainment and joy to many, give this a look.

    Important message about Suicide

WARNING: Discussions, however brief for the sake of tact, about self-harm and suicidal thoughts are in this post. People especially vulnerable to such should ensure they are in a good headspace before reading. This sort of trigger is no joke.

    Chapter 56 Promo!

In an isolated, abnormally large, hollowed-out tree might not be the typical abode for megalomaniacal n'ere-do-wells. Though, there was a reason both of them had opted for current accommodations over the typical kingdoms and castles, in one form or another. The area was absolutely inundated with dark magic. From the eerie glow that some of the plants gave off, to traces of black aerenth crystals

Jurassic Park Stream 4: The Lost World Encore! · 5:44am Jul 3rd, 2018

"Now it's only a matter of time before this, Lost World, is found and pillaged..."

Showtime is 7/3 at 4:30PM, Eastern Standard Time/1:30PM Pacific Coast time. If you need to compare what time this is for your area, use this link.

An adaptation of Michael Crichton's only produced sequel, The Lost World is a movie I do not think for a second deserved the reputation it's gotten. This is an excellent movie for discussion and I'll be including some videos regarding that as well, as I feel the loudest voices on this movie have not always been the most correct or attentive (*Cough* Nostalgia Critic). Quite honestly, I love this movie, warts and all. I even went through a phase of disliking it, but after I learned to appreciate the decisions and notice the plotholes I thought present weren't actually there, it vastly improved. Quite honestly, in terms of enjoyment ability, this is my favorite and I'm hardly alone. You may not think it as good as the original, but there is still quite a lot to enjoy. Thank God for Site B.

Schedule:

4:30PM EST/1:30PM PST The Land Before Time

5:40PM EST/2:40PM PST with Carnosaur 2

7:00PM EST/4:00PM PST with The Lost World: Jurassic Park

Show time 6/22? we really are going back in time!

Oh I will GLADLY discuss this movie with you, fair grendelson, because I have much to say on this topic. But I shall save that for tomorrow, since for once I'll be able to see the steam (yay). Instead, I want to pose a question: why exactly were the dinosaurs on both islands able to live relatively untouched for so long? I mean, word must surely have gotten out about the existence of these otherwise extinct animals living on these islands yes? And if word got out, why in the hell of it weren't there an ARMY of poachers and pirates showing up to steal them away as soon as they heard? Really, any one of these creatures would be individually worth millions on the black market, and that's before you think about potentially breeding them. Why on earth were they able to exist without human intervention for years and never once did poachers show up to steal them away before Ingen moved in to claim its property? This is a question I don't know that the franchise has ever answered, and I'd love to hear some speculation on the cause.

Having now seen JWFK my Jurassic Park film ranking is
5: The Lost World: Jurassic Park D+
4: Jurassic Park 3 C-
3: Fallen Kingdom B-
2: Jurassic World B-
1: Jurassic Park A-
Even the first movie is not the untouchable classic some hold it as, this is a mostly dumb franchise with one great movie, three dumb but fun rides, and one near complete bore fest.

Not likely to be there for the stream, since I plan to see Fallen Kingdom and Incredibles 2 tomorrow.

For me it's this in terms of film making quality

1. Jurassic Park - A
2. The Lost World - B+
3. Jurassic World - B+
4. Fallen Kingdom - B
5. Jurassic Park 3 - B-

For reasons stated before I don't hate the Lost World and it and the first film are unique in that the internal logic at work in the films is consistent. Additionally the SFX I feel are the best in the franchise, which I attribute to the exact same teams working on it under the same direction and similar lighting. JP3 had mostly the same SFX teams, but under new writing and direction so a few times the animatronics and CGI that otherwise looks great under details like proper lighting end up looking a tad off and break the illusion. Compare how the Spinosaurus machine looks in the plane wrecking scene vs. the boat attack to see what I mean. None of the movies I feel are bad and at worst I see JP3 and to an extent Fallen Kingdom as 1950s-1960s B movies with A movie budgets.

JP3 is not low because of fan reaction, but because the constant rewrites hurt the direction and tone where it felt like it forced in jokes that fell flat on their face. If it was edited, like the Site B fan cut, I feel it be far higher.

And for personal enjoyment it's

1. The Lost World
2. Jurassic World
3. Jurassic Park 3
4. Jurassic Park
5. Fallen Kingdom

This is largely down to the set pieces and way the SFX are used as I'm a big stickler for that. If I'm bored and want to see something impressive I knew was real, I watch The Lost World as the animatronics are extremely common and IMHO, used the best in the franchise. The look is grimy and misty, lacking the urbanized feel of JP or JW while still keeping that literally "Lost world" feel Fallen Kingdom is lacking. What pulls it ahead of JP3 is mostly down to how the scenes are shot and how they look. All the films have stand out scenes I adore for things like pacing or look even if I got little gripes. I might love the JP3 boat attack scene, but even I'll admit the Barney cut aways are stupid.

YAY I CAN MAKE THIS ONE!

YES! FINALLY ON A DAY OFF!

I personally have always really enjoyed the Lost World. It really doesn't deserve the reputation that some *cough-assholes* have given it.

And I'd much rather watch that one over the shitfest that was Jurassic Park 3. :facehoof:

Interesting... For me, 3 is the bottom of the barrel for the franchise. I can't stand that movie... the Kirby parents are pretty obnoxious and unlikable, the mercs are all a bunch of red-shirts, and the whole "kid survives eight weeks on Site B by collecting T-rex pee" is more stupid than anything you might say about The Lost World.

The best moment from JP3 is that gag where Ellie's son watches Barney - while the Spinosaurus tears apart the riverboat. The one moment of genius in an otherwise steaming pile of cinematic crap. >_<

My Personal enjoyment list is the same as my objective quality list (A rarity for me, my Star Wars list is all over the place).
TLW is a movie i find to be a near complete bore, but i don't like leading with that as its largely subjective. In the trinity of story telling that is Plot, Themes, and Characters, TLW is easily strongest in the plot department. Most of its plot points make sense and connect well and it executes its 'ripple effect' plot mostly compitently. The pacing is a mixed bag in the begining and especially the San Diego section (which as many have mentioned is a whole new three acts stappled to the end). Unfontunetly plot is the least important part of the trinity, and TLW is a complete dud character wise. Roland is pretty much the only highlight, a combination of interesting characterization and being very well acted, Eddie is also decent but he's gone early on. TLW is so unengaging from a narative standpoint and the story gives us no one to really rote for, and clearly expects us to. There are some great set pieces like teh trailer attack and long grass, plus parts of the San Diego attack, but the rest a i find pretty mediocre. Hilariously though, i think i'm the only person who actually like Kelly killing a Nublarraptor. The EFX are great, but that's honestly low on my lost of priorities next to script.
I agree that 3 is a bit of a hot mess but is fun in a b movie kind of way, World and Kingdom are much the same but are just generally better in every area.
