Dan Vs. Mirror Characters · 4:47am May 23rd, 2018

There's been a few misconceptions, as could be expected, about the Mirror Equestria characters and who they are, what they are like. Now, because the Mirror Universe has come back into play, I feel it necessary to go in depth a bit on each of them. It's more complicated than them just becoming discordant again, de-harmonized. Just as the ponies themselves are more than just one-dimensional archetypes, their Mirror counterparts are equally complex.

Here's a little bit more about how they're different. Just to help dispel some of the misconceptions.

Mirror Applejack - Outlaw, formerly of the Apple Gang which operated in the Appleloosa Wastes. Wanted for cattle rustling, disruption, disobedience and other crimes. Known for having a silver tongue, she frequently lies, cheats and bribes her way out of situations.

She attempted to disrupt the annual Summer Sun Submission, but was stopped by Inquisitor Twilight Sparkle.

Mirror Rarity - Ponyville 3rd District Quartermaster. Manager of a local commissary office, she is corrupt and deliberately mismanages supplies to the benefit of herself and the few ponies she may be temporarily interested. Shallow, greedy and self-absorbed, she spends her time working in an office dreaming about marrying a noble and sending her bratty little sister to the frontlines.

She attempted to inspire an uprising to stop the Summer Sun Submission, but was stopped by Inquisitor Twilight Sparkle.

Mirror Fluttershy - Aggressive and cruel animal control specialist. Hates pests, both of the sapient and non-sapient variety. She lives alone at the edge of town, away from others and would very much like to burn down the NeverFree Forest nearby. Likes fire, has little patience for anything else. Rumored to hunt and cook animals, including pets.

Attempted to start a fire to disrupt the Summer Sun Submission but was foiled by Inquisitor Twilight Sparkle. Currently MIA.

Mirror Pinkamena Diane Pie - Daughter of a family devoted to the Resistance. Her family, the Pies, frequently fought and sabotaged events in the Solar Empire using baked goods to little effect. Mirror Pinkie goes by the name Diane, having renounced her family for their pointless pursuits. She hates nonsense. Diane is assistant to the Assembly Manager of Ponyville and ensures both slaves and citizens of the Empire adhere to her strict structure and scheduling. She finds most laughter to be annoying and has little sense of humor.

Attempted to change the planning and event schedule for the Summer Sun Submission. Was discovered by Inquisitor Twilight Sparkle. Currently MIA.

Mirror Rainbow Dash - Rogue commander of the Wonderbolts, the specialized police of the Solar Empire. Mostly required to deal with "domestic problems" of the Solar Empire, usually through assassination. Adept at manipulating weather to her advantage and using it as a weapon. Her skills as a flier are average, but her knowledge and skill with clouds and forms of weather make her adept at eliminating undesirables and troublemakers alike.

Attempted to flee during the Summer Sun Submission, was forced to return by Inquisitor Twilight Sparkle after her squad betrayed her. Despite her disloyalty, she is respected for her skills. Currently MIA.

Mirror Twilight Sparkle - Royal Inquisitor of Ponyville by order of Empress Celestia. During an attempt to complete Starswirl the Bald's unfinished ascendance spell, the spell backfired, having been sabotaged by Starswirl himself, causing her to lose most of her magical power. Greatly diminished in magical ability, she took to drinking. Wants to be an alicorn princess and surpass the Empresses to reform the Solar Empire.

Most famous for constructing the Control Components, the mirror to the Elements of Harmony, to subdue Brightmare Moon. Despite her victory, the return of Brightmare Moon and her attempted rebellion helped to galvanize a resistance movement against the Solar Empire. Inquisitor Twilight was then ordered to remain in Ponyville to discover how best to learn the magic of subjugation in order to end the resistance once and for all.

Mirror Luna- Empress of the Solar Empire, returned after a thousand-years imprisonment, much like her counterpart. Initially, she sought to defeat her sister and create a New Lunar Republic, but was defeated. The Resistance continues on in her name, despite the fact that she now has accepted her role as Empress.

A beauty queen, she's more of a figurehead than anything else but is undeniably powerful. She doesn't care much for her subjects now and believes Celestia completely deserves to be Empress. Loves herself most of all and enjoys gladiatorial sports. Often trains champions and scrutinizes soldiers in the Imperial Guard.

Mirror Celestia- Empress of the Solar Empire and supreme authority in Equestria. Adhering to the Imperial Philosophy strictly, she often leads her forces directly in war against her enemies. She inspires terror from both friend and foe alike and is absolutely merciless. Looks like Celestia but with more Egyptian-style features in her mane, eyes and jewelry. Cold, dispassionate, she rules with an iron hoof and has enslaved most other nations across Equestria.

Secretly, she does not have the ability to control the sun to the extent her counterpart does. She maintains the illusion that she does and anyone who questions her is subject to torture and execution. Empress Celestia views other species as lesser and backward, uncivilized and weak, but does not usually hate them. She simply adheres to the Imperial Philosophy- that the weak support the strong. To go against that is to go against nature.

The Solar Imperial Philosophy is the belief of all Imperial citizens. The sun, giver of all life, is the center of the solar system and the smaller bodies orbit around it. So to is Celestia, the strongest in Equestria, the center of the Empire and all citizens submit to her power. In return, she provides them necessary order and stability. Order is life, to challenge that is blasphemy. The weak only exist to serve the strong and the whole, though some argue that the importance of both is equal rather than one being more than the other.

Mirror Discord- Attempted to overthrow the Empress by stealing the Components of Control from Twilight and her allies. Felt that slavery was wrong and that all should have the opportunity to find their own center. He is something of a zen philosopher, but after his defeat, has come to accept that the Solar Empire isn't going to change, which he considers to be a total bummer. Lacks creativity but enjoys cleaning windows.

... so... is he the 'Spirit of Expectedness'?

Where exactly did Mirror Equestria come from? Was it an original idea of your own built off of their discord-inated selves, or is it in the official canon somewhere? Or did someone else come up with it?

More like balance. Mirror Discord is kind-of like a buddhist. Bald, calm, like a monk and was briefly good when he was released from his statue form rather than evil, same with Mirror Luna. He wanted to restore balance to Equestria but lost, now he's mostly concerned on his inward journey rather than improving life outwardly, unlike regular Discord who likes to be involved and still is happy to cause hijinks and have fun. Like regular Discord, everyone usually finds him really annoying, but for different reasons.

The idea of a Mirror Universe of pretty much everything has been done before, as have all ideas, but this version of Mirror Equestria I came up with on my own. It's based on the Star Trek Enterprise episode 'In A Mirror, Darkly' and the first mirror episode of Dan Vs. TMOF follows a similar plot- a weapon from the other universe is discovered by a rival power and the main mirror characters launch a mission to recover it and use it to dominate.

There are a few key differences- the USS Defiant's role is taken by Magic Gear ALT, essentially the mirror version of Magic Gear Knight, sent to the alternate universe by accident in an experiment. ALT standing for Alternate Universe.

When we last left the Mirror Universe, Mirror Dan was dead and Mirror Vice was piloting ALT back to Canterlot. When he arrived, he found his hospital destroyed and his only friends and family likely murdered. Consumed with rage, he vowed revenge the same way regular Dan does, which is exactly what both the Resistance and the Solar Empire originally wanted- for him to pick a side. The future is left unanswered so that the reader is left to question it... in a mirror, darkly.

*gives a thumbs-up*
Thanks! :moustache:

Welcome. I did my best to make it so the mirror versions weren't one-dimensional, no pun intended. They have their own personalities, not just the same personalities flip-flopped.

*sees opportunity for a joke or pun*

*decides not to act on it*

Interesting. Which character in the Mirror-verse would you say is the most like Mirror Kira Nerys?

Well... Chrys is kind of a fighter in the prime universe, like regular Kira. So maybe Mirror Chryz is mirror Kira. Maybe.
