Do you want a one-shot written by moi? READ THIS...

I'm pretty bored right so I've come up with an idea. The next 10 people who already follow me can come up with an idea for a one-shot, and I'll choose the one which I think is the most interesting and write it. I won't tell the winner who it is... they'll only know when their story is published! :pinkiehappy:

    Has anyone else noticed…

…You can longer see how many people are viewing your story at a time, unless I’m missing something? It’s a shame, it was quite a useful tool to have… :fluttershysad:

    I’m curious…

…What do you like most about writing?

All you non-authors can just butt out; this question is just for the budding scribes out there to comment under.

(nah, just kidding, you can hang around and read if you like, after all you’re so good at it :raritywink:

I am SO glad this exists...

As a environmental message, it's fair-to-middling at best.

As a story which depicts how they might've handled Diamond Tiara AFTER her redemption, it's positively flawless.

I like the way the show is going now. All is good. :scootangel:

A good thing i found is that Spike got som screen time and the writers dident make him a looser or mess somfing up. :)

I caught some of the leaks and Spike, Celestia, and a few other get some time in the limelight. They were great before the episodes were fully finished. Then again, I can be easy to please at times.

I found a lot of Harry Potter references! That made me happy!!:pinkiehappy:

I feel where you're coming from. This concept is almost the exact same as the ninth season of Scrubs, focusing on students in med school while just a few of the old main cast remains. I was skeptical at first, but actually grew to like the characters after a few episodes. I happen to like this new MLP cast from the start (I mentioned this in the episode discussion—Ocellus is already my new favorite. Twilight and Fluttershy rolled up into one), so hopefully the premise follows through and impresses me enough that I keep watching because I want to and not because of some unbridled (oh god, that was bad :facehoof:) loyalty to the show.

Hey, as long as you're still on the site and willing to write fanfics, I don't care either way. You don't have to watch the show to be part of the fandom.

Anyone else getting “Simpsons Poochie” vibes from with the writers are doing? Also, they’re clearly playing their hand at race issues, because that isn’t a dry and abused well that has long since been drained of good content. If I want a family friendly product that teaches acceptance of different race, I have a Blu Ray copy of Zootopia LITERALLY behind me as I’m writing this.

Then again, I stopped watching the show after season six, so I really don’t know why I’m complaining.

4824960 That's one plus, I suppose. :moustache:

4824972 I'm not saying the season will be bad, but it ain't got off to a great start. Only time will tell about the rest... :rainbowderp:

4825045
I'm happy for you :coolphoto:

4825072
I'm not a big Scrubs fan, it looks a bit too silly for me. But I guess any show that goes on for nine seasons that still inspires you to watch it can't be that bad, so fair play I suppose.

4825111 Pff I'll still carry on watching the show, as long as my ability to post 'scintillating' critiques about on here goes on unimpeded... :raritywink:

4825155
Good comparison. Great taste in movies, too. :twistnerd:

4825179
I will say nothing..... Nope... zipped.

If you hate the show so much why are you here?

4825244
Did you read my full blog carefully? Especially the last few lines. :moustache:

4825248
I did. You said nothing that challenges my point, only things that reinforce it.

4825276
Oh well. Guess we’ll have to agree to disagree there.

4825282
You hate an entire fairly important half of the franchise, and that you don't like the show in general and hated the new episode. So why are you still here?

4825286
:ajbemused: Starlight.... you are the LAST individual to be judging others right now, Miss “create a cult because my best friend moved away.”

The show is kind of garbage now and fan writers do a much better job at creating a relatable and interesting world that isn’t tied down to TV ratings.

4825609
First, don’t ever call me that again.... ever.

Second, I’m sure COUNTLESS others would say so too.

4825624
The opinions of a child complaining about or deriding a program he does not in fact watch are easily thrown out or ignored.

4825644
The same can be said for someone who uses an account name of an improperly developed character who acts as if a show by friggen Hasbro is the end all of entertainment. It isn’t. And I’m glad it may finally be wrapping up and not continuing to prolong itself further than it already has.

I don’t know you, so don’t act like you know me.

I missed you deadpansnarker! You feel you feel, and there is nothing wrong with that. I have already lost Rick & Morty, So I'm I'm staying with this until the end. Like a good captain, I intend to go down with the ship.

Well, it is good to know that you're still here. I personally enjoyed the new episodes but I can sorta see what you mean. I'm just easy to please. As long as nothing goes wildly out of character then I like said characters enough to watch how they do everything. Opening a school with a neurotic book mad pony like Twilight actually sounds like a fun prospect. That's just me, everyone has their own strokes on the paintbrush. Uh... whatever that means.

Gonna stop babbling now. I hope the show sparks your interest again. Have a nice day.

I could be eating my words in a few weeks time...

May I have a try at this? Maybe, I can make you eat your words right now already. And no, this isn't meant to sound pretentious. But your choice of words in this sentence made me choose mine, so..... sue me. :derpytongue2:
This is a genuine shot at convincing you. On to the subject.....

Bleurgh, sounded like a blatant cash-in on Equestra Girls to me, which in itself was a desperate tie-in to all the cliched high school shows that have been doing the rounds of late.

First, a tiny comment on this. The last thing I want is that EQG and the sour taste it leaves in your mouth is affecting the enjoyment of the show that stays true to the franchise, by causing unpleasant memories cause the show is doing a school-focused season.
School life can be very exciting and even very epic if the right things get portrayed the right way. Not everything has to be done the cliched, kitschy EQG way.

Twilight announces, completely out of the blue with no foreshadow whatsoever, that she's establishing a new school.

Is it? Personally, I'm not a friend of foreshadowing. I said already years ago that I will never do it in my fics. It ruins surprises and plot twists to hint at something before its time has come.
However, what I think you want to say here is: How much sense does this development of Twilight founding a friendship school make, in regards to former events?
During the journey with her friends to find allies for fighting the Storm King, Twilight had to see a city full of corruption where literally everyone was interested in either buying them or selling them. A very grimdark culture that is completely alien to the civilized life in Equestria, especially if we expand our thoughts on all the potential things they could have been forced to do if they actually would have gotten sold into slavery there.....

The next big impression Twilight got was a queen of a distant kingdom who outright refused to help another kingdom under attack, even though she had the means to help, and who was only interested in herself and her own people.

And, finally, the whole reason for that journey was a tyrannical warlord with a huge army who wanted to conquer the whole world. Which is a threat that, probably, even still looms in a certain way; Twilight's words about Tempest Shadow travelling the world to spread the word about the Storm King's defeat heavily implied that there are still many regions controlled by commanders of the Storm King who could try to become his successor and do the same thing all over again in the power vacuum his death has left.
As I said above, I can see why you feel a lot of apprehension over the idea of a school because of EQG and its taste, which makes it hard to open the mind up to the things seen in this two-parter.
But there are a lot of personal experiences that precede Twilight's decision to open a school to teach "communicating" and how to "respect differences".
I would not quite call these experiences "foreshadowing", but after what Twilight has seen recently, teaching values like this to members of other, more uncivilized kingdoms and nations that surround Equestria is a very logical conclusion and step for her to make.

Artificial crisis starts when the new students try to bond, the bigoted grown ups feud and school is shut down by Cranky Old Pony who doesn't believe 'mixing' is healthy.

There's a little danger here with this that I'm repeating myself now, because this is something that reinforces what I said about Twilight's motivations for the school. One crisis happens and, even though it's a rather minor one, the nation's leaders and representatives already get into a huge dispute and threaten each other with war almost instantly.
Things like this go even further back in time, when we consider how there's still at least one dragon who would burn Equestria down if he should become dragon lord one day (Season 6) and how the yaks broke all diplomatic contact and sealed their borders shut in the first place (Season 5).
Which is something that holds the possibility that all of this, what we saw in the movie and what we see now, has been planned out years ago and intentionally built up to since at least Season 5. To me, this doesn't sound like the steps of a toy creator who wants more cash. But I digress.....

Then we have Chancellor Neighsay who is an outright rascist and not hesitant with displaying this attitude to leaders of other nations, which already holds enough potential for a diplomatic crisis on its own. A threat from the inside of Equestria that makes clear why, despite that the goal is to ensure friendship with other nations, even ponies of Equestria attend the school.
It's making apparent how the school Twilight envisions is something that is probably much-needed in a heated environment like this where war can break out easily.

who have decided to run off together, away from those nasty prejudiced adults.

Lastly, this is where it shows that Twilight's plan can work. A group of six friends all from different nations and ethnicities come together as friends and even go so far to run away together and hide in a dangerous place, so they can stay friends against the odds of a rascist who is hating them and diplomatic issues between their nations' leaders.
It is not an outright confirmation that the school will have success with keeping Equestria safe in the long run, but it shows that Twilight's idea is one with potential.

This adds the final credibility to Twilight's endeavor of opening a school to teach friendship, both in-universe as well as in regards to plot development.

And, all of what I said here combined, this is where the potential lies. It's not a bad idea, especially considered that it's probably a long time coming already, and it does open up the show to many new things to explore.
I want to add a quote by myself here, from a review somewhere else:

This episode already gives me a huge "Harry Potter" vibe (especially the song!) and the show once more enhances its potential with it, as the life in Twilight's new school provides for tons of new opportunities, ranging from the different lessons to all the crazy shenanigans the students could get into after school.
Struggles with learning? Schoolyard fights? Young students who are away from home for the first time and suffer from homesickness? Maybe even a little romance between certain students? Or a creepy episode when the students think a ghost roams the schoolgrounds at night? Field trip episodes that eventually lead to dangerous adventures?
There is a lot to explore here and, personally, I hope to see all of this and more. Here's to a Season 8 full of school-focused episodes!

And that's scratching the surface of what can be explored through the show now with the friendship school..... Much more important, and even more exciting, is what I talked about above, the political and diplomatic importance of the school.
I can especially see this coming up in regards to character dynamic between the new ones.....

Gallus, Yona, Smolder, Ocellus and Silverstream, they are the first students from other nations who attend Twilight's school.
Other nations than Equestria are obviously hesitant to send their children to the school, hence why they are the only non-pony students who attend. This is putting them in a position of a lot of responsibility, as their personal success in the school will determine if the school's lessons can work for creatures who aren't ponies.
For future episodes and seasons ( yes, there is only one coming after this one, but I address that at the bottom), I can see this playing out in the way that all five of them will be put under constant pressure, as it is expected from them (especially by Twilight) that they are perfect students so that the school can prove its worth to the outside world with them as the figureheads of it.
Which will bring tons of different challenges for them, especially once they make mistakes that cause more diplomatic issues.
This might lead to situations where even Sandbar as the only pony in their group of friends, is struggling with something, when he tries to keep them together and from fighting and from giving a bad impression that way, because he is the mature one of them and sees this as his own responsibility because of that.

Again, I can see where your hesitation towards the basic idea comes from after seeing EQG and its school stuff.
But there are a ton of things set up and prepared here that will bring the show into a direction that is much more exciting and does much more than EQG ever could.

EQG is the dumb and cliched approach to school life. But My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is going for the epic one here, this is something that is evident already.
Don't let EQG ruin something for you and give this awesome concept a chance. As someone who invests a lot more analytical thoughts into the show and Equestria than most do ever since I started watching it in 2012 (and rarely writes them down, but I'm going to change that this season), I promise it will be worth it.

To conclude this comment, a few last words about this:

It also, now we know the show is probably ending in the next couple of years, felt like a cynical attempt to extend the existing franchise until the axe inevitably falls.

This is, actually, something that gives me a bit of hope again.
Not even so much the school plot and all its intriguing potential for future episodes and seasons that I described in detail above, but more the fact that they went out of their way to, after seven seasons and tons of demands for that, make a completely new opening from scratch.
Why bothering? It's ending after Season 9, right? So why do that for the last two seasons?
I think this is a sign for it that Hasbro hasn't finalized this decision, to end the show after Season 9, completely yet.
The sudden and rushed thought of rebooting the franchise with an alternate universe most likely means that the movie underperformed for Hasbro's expectations and that Hasbro lost faith in Generation 4 because of that.
But seeing this now..... This new opening..... It gives me hopes that Hasbro hasn't lost this faith completely just yet.
A new opening for the show that reflects a major new plot development, this is an image change for the show, as the opening is the first thing that the (potential) audience gets to see of it and meant to introduce the show to it.
And that Hasbro agreed to such an image change with a new opening, this can only mean that it wants to give it one last shot with the show to see how much effect the movie really has on it, before it makes the final decision of continuing it beyond Season 9 or not.
Maybe you will disagree with me (but I have hopes that you won't anymore after my analyzis above), but I have my hooves crossed for this.

Regardless of what one thinks about the show and Season 8, this is now the time to support it in every possible way for all those who want that Equestria stays with us beyond Season 9.
If my words changed your pessimistic outlook here or if future episodes do that, this is now the time to act and to show your support as a fan more than ever.

4825795

Staying is good, but maybe we don't have to go down with it just yet..... Keep supporting it.
There is one last chance we have. Read the conclusion of my comment below this one, under the last quote in it, which details why My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic still has one chance to live longer than Season 9.

A sudden edit.....

I like the way the show is going now. All is good. :scootangel:

:trixieshiftright: :moustache:

4836150
Well, it's true. My fears are unfounded, I should have shown more faith, you were right... blah blah blah. :raritywink:

Good detective work by the way, I was wondering if anyone else would spot it. Have a cookie. :scootangel:

P.S Thank you for your long post. You raised some interesting points that I'll respond to, when I have the time... for now though, please have a great day. :pinkiehappy:

4836152

I see..... This comes very suddenly and unexpected and something strikes me as sarcasm..... But I'll take your word for it.

And have the words on tape, just in case. :3

Edit: And this was a coincidence..... I saw you wrote a fic for the Opener and that you deleted it again. I wondered if that would happen with the new fic too, so I came on your account.

4836171
No, I'm being very truthful. :pinkiehappy:

Sorry if my reputation for sarcasm precedes me, but I am genuinely over the moon with the third and fourth episodes of the new season. We might get a lot more episodes set in the new school now, but if the quality of them can match up to the others, I think we could be in for a treat. :raritystarry:

So keep your tape, and play it to whoever you want, because I'm happy to announce the show is well and truly back on track. :scootangel:

4826862
Hi again. Thank you for sticking with me. Much appreciated, and a lot more content coming soon. :rainbowdetermined2:

4836179

We might get a lot more episodes set in the new school now

There better be..... Maybe I'm too negative, cause I said that I have hope that they will put the school and the Student Six to great use in coming episodes and seasons and there's also the thing with the new opening animation I explained. But right now, I'm a bit anxious, cause after two episodes, I already miss Silverstream. :fluttercry:

4836205
Like you said, my presumptions were purely based on the whole 'school' idea and it's similarities with Equestria Girls, which is unfair. I should judge the show on it's own merits, instead of relying on it's lacklustre 'rivals'. :twilightsheepish:

Hopefully, the new characters will gel in well into the show, and who knows, I might even base a few future fan fictions around them. I'd much rather be positive about things than negative, so here's hoping MLP closes on a good note, no matter how long it has left.
