…What do you like most about writing?
All you non-authors can just butt out; this question is just for the budding scribes out there to comment under.
(nah, just kidding, you can hang around and read if you like, after all you’re so good at it
Funny question...I'm not quite sure if I'm allowing my imagination to run free...or if I'm channeling images and words from SOMEWHERE ELSE. (dramatic organ music ensues!)
Either way, writing is FUN, and that's why I do it. It's an outlet that allows me to bring to life those images and words floating around in my mind and create fantasies for others to (hopefully!) enjoy as well.
I like being somewhere else for a bit. My life kinda sucks, so it's a great escape.
When I first started, I didn't even have any friends. So making characters was me kinda making my own. To this day it's why I love writing OC stories. Every new character I make feels like making a new friend. Thankfully, in the regard of real life friends, I'm now doing much better. But the feeling is still amazing.

Idk why I even made this post, I was just thinking of all the satisfaction and pleasure I got from creating my own weird and wonderful stories based on my ‘unique’ outlook on life… almost as exciting as seeing how well people respond to them via feedback and views. I just wanted to see if others shared my perspective and what their ‘muse’ was.
My fics are derived from existing popular MLP characters of course, but they’d be much less interest if I just used OCs. Besides, these fictional individuals so varied and complex ( for a ‘kids’ show), that I don’t need to bother inventing new personas, I’ve got hundreds of oven-ready ones right here that I can use to ride my imagination express…
What people have done with the franchise on this site is amazing, I truly think some of the material on here is award-worthy. Only it wouldn’t be, because the critics wouldn’t take kindly to acclaiming work based on a ‘show for little girls’. Their loss…
Two main things, I suppose:
Preemptive apologies if all of that merely amounts to incoherent rambling. :P
I'll be honest, the physical act of writing is pretty tedious to me. Though I know that's something I can't avoid if I want to keep the artistic vision intact. What I love is storytelling. To bring a world, characters, and a plot to life in a vivid and engaging way, even if it's to an audience of one.
I like making up stories in my head, and writing them down forces me to organise and give the story sense. Not rarely the story changes by writing it down, if not even surprises me
I am not a writer, I’ve tried on my own but getting the words out was next to impossible. I would like to think my ideas could make an interesting story but unfortunately getting them out of my head and into a word processor is the hard part. I do appreciate those that are publishing their writings on fan sites because they are able to make it work somehow.
Being in a rut, and having a pathway open up before me in the thicket.
it is fun and it helps me with bad days
I like to sit and scheme elaborate multistory plots that I'll definitely end up completely rewriting as I go.
1) It's an emotional outlet, I guess. It helps me cope with strong feelings.
2) I imagine alternate versions of what's currently happening most of the time. It's fun turning those thoughts and ideas into stories.
3) The comments. Knowing that I'm good at something, reading the thoughts of the viewers, and interacting with them.
4) And when something interesting happens in my life, I can immortalize it in a much more creative way than a diary entry or something.

Thanks all for contributing to my random question.
I appreciated hearing different perspectives of why everyone picks up a keyboard and makes busy with their fingers to entertain us (apart from badninja, but we can't all find the effort or the time to write stories & that's okay) and certainly this site wouldn't run if not for so many people bringing the lives of these deceptively complex equine beings to life.
Keep up the good work, and have a great Christmas!

And a merry Christmas to you in kind!
For me it is to enjoy the creativity, the inspiration, the lore and worldbuilding that we can create by the tip of our fingertips it is to continue on with the adventures of six brave mares and many other characters, both good and bad, and that is my true pleasure of writing.
