Do you mean the 'eye' icon in the top left corner of the story? If so, then, if I recall correctly, a few years ago, knighty or one of the mods mentioned that this thing is using some low-tier service that always goes beyond the free limit at the end of the month and becomes unavailable.
So, unless it died completely, it should start working again on the 1st of January

I actually thought that Knighty and Co disabled it because of lag and latency issues.
It's not very useful anyway.
For years I have been disabling data/wifi on my phone when I read stories as my mobile web browser never stops talking as I'm scrolling through stories.
I load the story, then disable data until I've hit the end of the chapter.
A metric that constantly pings people who are reading chapters just creates unwanted traffic.

Hmm, I recall them saying that the service shuts down at the end of every month due to the query limit, but I don't recall them disabling it. I might have missed it, though; we'll see on the first, I guess
