Two, maybe three questions · 1:21am Mar 17th, 2018
Does anyone here speak Irish? I might take Scots Gaelic, but I'm definitely interested in Irish.
Anyone know about ancient Celtic history? Or maybe know anyone who does?
I've been reading a lot of fics lately where the Sirens are written as being sisters. Was this ever confirmed in canon, main or side? <.<
There is a non-zero chance these questions are related.
On the chance these are related, this sounds interesting!
And the sirens being sisters is fanon.
I don't speak it, but I've got a really bad fake accent.
(well, that's unfair. everybody has one of those *except* the Irish)
I watch a lot of Doctor Who and just finished Britannia, so I'm pretty sure I've got that sealed up 100%.

I couldn't be sure if I'd just missed or forgotten something. This doesn't surprise me, though.

Tell me about it. :(
Does welsh count? https://www.fimfiction.net/user/240978/Ceffyl+Dwr
There isn't much ancient Celtic history, just folklore and legends, and for the Irish, it's mostly stories about Cu Chulainn and stealing other people's cattle.
I can say "Hello", "Thank you", and "It's hot, but it's a dry heat" in Irish Gaelic, but that's about it. Scots Gaelic and Welsh are Celtic languages are very different... particularly Welsh, which is very different from everything.
This probably isn't what you're looking for, but it's interesting if nothing else. The Moirai
Well, with regards to the Celts, I have a book on the subject.

I realized this morning that while I said 'history', I actually meant "mythology".
I just need to know about legendary warrior princesses/queens and I'm literally too lazy to try using Wikipedia. :B
No so far on both, but while double checking some things I did find something I never expected to be even a little bit canon: the existence of a Fighting is Magic video (arcade) game is apparently CCG canon. XD
Basic Folklore
Sirens, also known as Merrow or murdúchann

Cu Chulainn is your guy, then. Most famous of the legendary heroes.
There's also an amazing epic poem, the Siege of Da Dergha's Hostel. I probably spelled that wrong... I'll look it up tonight when I get home. It's both amazing Nd hilarious... if you humor runs to the grim side.

Yeah, Cu Chulainn is the only name I know. There's definitely got to be more out there...

The Destruction of Da Derga's Hostel is a goldmine of names of heroes, druids, and high kings.

It's a fun story, told in a rather bizarre way. Basically, this king and his army rolls up to the hostel (an early sort of inn) because there's a dude inside he wants to kill (for reasons). But because ancient Ireland is lousy with ridiculously powerful heroes, he sends a spy to scope it out first. The spy returns and says he looked through a crack in the wall and saw two hills above two lakes.
Okay.
The king turns to his druid and asks if the spy is smoking crack or what?
The druid says, no, the two hills were the knees of [insert hero's name here] and the lakes were his eyes. If you attack the hostel, he will kill twenty of your men before he even reaches for his weapons. If for only the presence of this man, you should not do this thing!
The king takes this poorly. Clouds of blood will come to you! (he says to the druid) You do not rule me! I will do as I wish!
And then he sends the spy back again, and the spy comes back to describe some other fantastic thing he's seen, and the druid reveals it is another bad-ass hero that will murder the heck out of a good portion of the army, and the king tells him to fuck off again.
And this goes on for many iterations... like I said, getting more ridiculous and hilarious all the time, until the king has had enough and says, "Bros, you're harshin' my mellow here, Imma go burn down this joint."
And the epic ends just about there, with a line saying, essentially, the druid was right; it all happened exactly as he said it would.
Really!
Re: Sirens being sisters -- Now comics canon as of Legends of Magic 12. Or at least, it has the lines

In fairness, this one only came out last Wednesday, so it's not like you needed to be forgetful or far behind to miss it or anything.

Doesn't change how far behind I am. ._.
