2016 Year in Review (and an announcement) · 2:59pm Dec 31st, 2016
That went fast. Time for another Year in Review!
2016 didn't feel like a particularly productive year, but when I look at the numbers it seems to have held its own with previous years.
2016 By the Numbers
New Stories:
- The Adventuring Type
- The Instruments of Our Surrender
- Completely Safe in the Reference Section
- The Riddle of the Sphinx
- Childhood's End
- Shall I Compare Thee
- The Lamia
- A bunch of short stories
- Finally finished Salvation! (after only four years)
Total pony wordcount for 2016: 103,000
But! That's not the whole story! Thanks to the Original Fiction Writeoff contests, 2016 also saw five completely original short stories and another five minifics, adding around 40,000 words to that total.
But but! There's more! See below if you're interested!
So, that announcement.
For the past month I've been chugging away at a completely new, long-form adventure, the first one since The Wind Thief. I've got something like five chapters and 25,000 words already in the bank, and I can't remember the last time I was so excited to be working on a story. It got me so excited that I actually went and created artwork for each of the main characters, with more to come (and I'll probably be commissioning some actual, no-kidding real artists to illustrate some parts as well). Although I sometimes do my own cover artwork for stories, this is the first time I've ever really attempted to integrate my painting and writing.
So, in that spirit, have a look at Rose Quartz, one of the main characters in this new adventure.
Publication is expected to start in January, 2017! Excited noises!
Weyhey!
All I can think of is Steven Universe

You're totally selling yourself short! Your artwork is consistently lovely, and this new picture's no exception.

Yep, with a name like Rose Quartz expect a lot of Steven Universe Jokes/references in the comments section!

Yup - that's the first thing I though of as well,
Yay! And more excited noises, too! Are you going to work on 'Land of the Blind' as well? I hope so!
And your art work is terrific...be confident that you are talented in the area, too!
Woohoo!
Thanks for all the ponywords; I'm looking forward to seeing whatever else you write. And happy new year!
Excited horse noises!
Also, I now realize you might be the only author where I've read everything you wrote this year.
