Sequel? Well, yes BUT... · 7:28am Dec 16th, 2016

Okay, so I know it's Christmas right now, and I haven't updated or written anything in forever, but I still want to address this:

Cake Mix. I loved writing it, people want more. I don't mind at all giving them more. I want to get something out for every Valentine's Day, and this year instead of something new, I could just give a sequel to Cake Mix instead. (Now if I could only commission a new picture of female Mr. Cake as she appears as Angel Cake in the story so I'd have cover art)

HOWEVER here is the deal:

I want to write it. I have some ideas. I'd certainly have a stallion catch Angel Cake's eye, and there could be possible bed time fun to be had later.

It's just... look I want the stallion to be Evening, because that would be the most fun for me to write. For those who haven't read Maid to Please 2 Loopholes, or Weeping Willow. (Which is probably quite a few people actually) You might not know who Evening is. Well he's my OC. So yeah.

Why bring this up? Because people generally hate OCs. So I could see if people would NOT want to read that story.

So what do you, my readers think? You want to see this sequel idea I have, or would you rather I do something new as you don't like the idea of me putting an OC into the mix like that?

I'll just lay my cards on the table here: not a huge fan of an OC, but if adding a stallion to the mare mix ended up leaving Angel Cake pregnant, I could forgive it.

I wouldn't mind since I write FoE: Influx which is entirely OCs and only mentions original characters.

Personally, I say go for it. Sure, some people might prefer to see another canon character in there, but let's not forget that Ponyville has more citizens than just the ones we know. I see nothing wrong with adding an OC to the mix, provided he's written decently.

Most importantly, though: this is your story. I'm not saying not to care at all about what the readers want; that would be silly. But if you really want to write it with your OC, then go for it! I really don't get the stigma OCs have on this site. I understand if they're ridiculous Mary Sues, but otherwise, what's the harm?

I know I'm very much looking forward to the sequel if it comes to pass

Well Weeping Willow is kinda short, and it'd be great to get feedback on it if you wanted to find out how he is.

I'd like to see a sequel to Cake Mix but I'm not sure about the OC thing. Had it been an OC I knew, maybe. But as it is now, eeeh... no. No I think I'd prefer a canon character or a completely new character. I like to know the ponies I read about.

Have to say I agree with Twinkletail - it's your story, and you're the one who is going to be writing it.

If you feel able to write a sequel that includes an OC, and you feel the story would work, then go for it.

I'm desperate for more Cake Mix stuff, it was a wonderful story. I'll accept even your OC (from another story) if you feel that would make it work. You are the writer, after all, so your muse takes priority over its needs.

That said, my recommendation is, since Cake Mix didn't require us to read other stories first, if you do include your OC in the story, have it be stand alone, and not other stories (beyond Cake Mix itself) be required reading to enjoy the story.

I don't mind OCs

You wouldn't have to know anything about him, he'd just be a new character in the context of the story. It's just at the end of my day, he's an OC.

Well he would be a new character. I think there is some confusion going on. I'm not going to write him in a way that you'd have to have read/known about him before hand. He'd be written as a new character in the context of the story. It's just at the end of the day, he's still an OC. AKA a character that isn't canon to the show.

Personally, I'm all for any sort of sequel I can get for the series, and, from what I can tell, Evening would be a reasonable foray for Mr. Cake as a first male sexual encounter. From what I can tell, Evening would be the most passive of the threeway (assuming Mrs Cake is in on the action) which would help put the formal male more at ease with the situation then someone more aggressive........

Not saying I don't want Carrot to be talked to like the dirty little mare he is, but Evening would make a good way to break her in. ;3
