Out of Context Screenshot Theater #567 + Weekly Death Blog · 6:00am Nov 28th, 2016

Here are the notable deaths for the past week from North America, Japan, and select parts of Europe. As usual, please see Wikipedia for a complete list of notable 2016 deaths.

Note: This blog primarily covers actors, writers, and musicians. With few exceptions, notable sports figures are usually not covered in this blog. Political figures are also not covered unless they are exceptionally noteworthy.

PLEASE do not call me out for failing to include this person or that person in the comments. If I haven't heard of them, I haven't heard of them. If my not having heard of someone you have great respect for upsets you, I'm sorry, but I know who I know and I don't know who I don't know.

On very rare occasions, the Year of Death does the world a favor. We saw it a few weeks ago when Jack Chick died. We saw it again this week.

On Black Friday, Fidel Castro finally ceased to be a cancer upon the festering ass of this world. May he burn in Hell forever, tormented by the souls of everyone he himself tormented and killed.

The day before that, the world lost a sweet angel: Florence Henderson, best known as Mrs. Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch.

November 23:
- Joe Esposito, 78, American author and publisher, road manager for Elvis Presley.

November 24:
- Florence Henderson, 82, American actress (The Brady Bunch, The Sound of Music), heart failure.

November 25:
- Fidel Castro, 90, Cuban politician, Prime Minister (1959–1976), President (1976–2008).
- Ron Glass, 71, American actor (Barney Miller, Firefly, Deep Space), respiratory failure.

That's just racist.

4320324 GODDAMMIT I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THAT:twilightangry2:

You guys are lame, they're expecting black ninjas!

"There were three words on that post-it..."

I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to think of a way to ask where you get your opinion of Castro from without sounding like an ass, and I've failed. So I'll just ask: Where did you get that opinion of Castro from?

I see Beast Boy is a Samurai Jack fan.

Zef

"Yeah, well, Shinobi had a dog, so he's way cooler than Ninja Gaiden!"

4320441 You're...you're kidding, right?

Political prisons, firing squads, thousands of people tortured, beaten, jailed, executed that would not have been in a civilized free country...none of that bothers you?

"Trust me guys... They'll never see this coming!"

On a side note, when I found out about Castro's death, I actually threw a mini party. One less menace to the world in existence! May he suffer endlessly for his horrific crimes!

Beast Boy bucks the trend again by cosplaying Storm Shadow instead of Snake Eyes.

I can't believe Canada (that I'm in) have the nerve to praise that dictator known as Fidel Castro.

4320903 At least Donald Trump has the decency to call the man out for who he really is.

4320538 Universal free healthcare, independence from Yankee imperialism, no homelessness, vast increase in literacy, support of freedom movements such as against Apartheid and sending doctors around the world to where they are needed most are all not noteworthy accomplishments to you? I can understand not liking Castro out of democratic principle, but as dictators go he was pretty decent, one of the best even. Seriously, I challenge you to name one single dictator that did more for his people.

I remind you that the US has a freaking torture camp on Cuba, that it has embargoed the tiny island nation for decades while sponsoring terrorism on it, and yet Cuba offered to send doctors when Hurricane Katrina hit the southern US, help that was declined by the Bush administration. Tell me, when one nation unconditionally offers help to another that was afflicted by a natural disaster, and that nation's government would rather have its people suffer needlessly than accept this help because of bullshit political reasons, who is the free civilized country and who the bloodthirsty murderous regime?

4320754 Menace to the world? A world of Apartheid and colonialism, yes, I would like to have more menaces against such a world please!

4320538 Of course that bothers me. But he also did good things for Cuba. Not to excuse the horrible things that he did, whenever I see people criticise him, they always seem to forget the good things he did, like what 4321279 said.

4321416 Maybe because that's the bad massively outweighs the good?
4321279
4321416 You know, Hitler managed to do a LOT for the advancement of German economy, industry, and technology. So he must not have been a very bad guy either, right?

Wait, Jack Chick died? Finally, his tracts gave Christianity a bad name

4321685 Hitler was in the same boat as Castro until he went on a genocidal massacre. Besides, neither of us can paint a true picture of him. Only those who lived in Cuba during his reign can say whether or not he was a good leader.

4321825 It's funny how thousands of Cubans are relieved to know he's dead then.

4321893 Everything I've read displays mixed reactions. Case in point, a complex figure who can not be called a saint or a demon. I will not defend his bad decisions, but I will make sure people acknowledge his good ones.

4321973 Whatever floats your boat. As far as I'm concerned, he was a monster and the world is better without him in it.

4321685

You know, Hitler managed to do a LOT for the advancement of German economy, industry, and technology.

Actually he didn't, that is a myth. Whatever economic growth he caused was entirely based on fueling his war machinery, on pillaging and stealing from conquered territories, on literally working people to death who didn't fit his racist world view. Technological advancements in Nazi Germany are often overstated as well, don't forget that they gladly got rid of people like Einstein, calling their teachings Jewish pseudo-science, which thankfully set back their research on nuclear weapons by years. Economically and technologically (even disregarding the massive loss of lives) Germany would have been better off without fascism. If Batista had never been overthrown Cuba today would look like Haiti.

Show me a single country Cuba conquered or a single ethnic minority they genocided. I can get comparing Stalin with Hitler (even though it's wrong), but with Castro it's just ridiculous.

4321893 All those fascists in Florida don't count, for the most part they are part of Batista's ancien regime or their brainwashed descendants, military, plantation owners etc. They ought to rot in the gulags for all I care.

Apart from that there are economic migrants from the 90s when the collapse of the glorious Soviet Union, who was constantly sending aid instead of embargoing the tiny island nation like a certain other superpower, led to massive shortages in Cuba. Their hatred of Castro is a bit more understandable but still missguided, and it's hilariously hypocritical when the same people who want to build a wall on the Mexican border and deport all Muslims paint them as some sort of brave refugees from a tyrannical regime.

And yes, independently from both of these groups there has also been a tiny steady stream of genuine refugees from government oppression, but Cuba is far from the only such country in Iberian America or even just the Caribbean, and like I said as dictators go Castro was pretty benevolent relatively speaking.

4322384

All those fascists in Florida don't count

.........

Yeah you know what? I don't think you and I should ever talk politics again. Like, ever.

CSC

4322369 He did mistreat homosexuals and black people in Cuba.

Also, yes he did kill less people than Stalin and Mao, and Cuban healthcare is great from what I've heard, but that still doesn't change the fact that he was an authoritarian. The main difference between him and Batista is Batista was a Far-Right dictator and Castro was a Far-Left dictator.

He doesn't deserve any praise for the little good things he's done because the bad things outnumber them, but he does deserve LESS hate than Stalin and Mao ever got.

CSC

Castro was just another Communist dictator; an outsider who promised happiness and prosperity, and he turns on his people once he comes into power.

He was the least brutal out of all of them, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a bad guy.

There's this song written by Ricardo Arjona called Caudillo which perfectly describes every Socialist leader who comes to power promising happiness for the people and changes once he comes into power. I highly recommend it; it's a great song and it fits Castro perfectly. It's in Spanish so it's fitting in today's time.

CSC

I heard Cubans are only pretending to mourn him because they fear execution; it's Kim Jong-Il's funeral all over again but in Spanish.

4322632 Maybe you should stop spreading liberal propaganda then.

4322872 ...excuse me?!

Are you...are you seriously...

...you know what? No. I know what you want, and what you want is to pick a fight. What you want is to get people riled up.

I'm not giving you the satisfaction. Or a platform for it.

4320468 Nah man, Strider's where it's at.
