Oh, I know what you mean. I don't see why theres a lot of people LIKING that abomination of an episode with what it did to the Changelings. In my eyes, it's the worst episode BY FAR, and I'm placing it firmly in the 'Does not exist' pile. Then burying that pile under every review of Mare Do Well. I can understand people (Especially the changeling lovers) not calling to burn it at the stake yet due to it not being officially released, but I have the feeling it's going to get SLAMMED when it is.

From a fanfic writer's point of view, I can see how damaging the "change," was, what with Chrysalis turning her back on redemption and choosing to be salty, but in all honesty, I think that season six has been, to a significant extent, an extremely good season.

Gotta keep in mind it's still a cartoon but I love this type of world-building in stories, I was honestly not expecting much of what went down in this season, (probably because I did my best to stay unspoiled, promptly spoils the finale before watching it before Top Bolt but w.e) the changelings look garish but I like this change because this is effectively a new race popping up out of nowhere. Hereby destroying all headcanon. But the writers can use this to explain our main characters exploring new parts of the map, and thereby expanding the world of MLP:FIM.

Yeah the new changelings look goddamn stupid. Part of me is glad Chrysalis turned her nose up at them because of that, the other part though is frustrated that such a cool character(made better by the numerous fanfics she features in) was pretty much boned in the shows canon, while a shitpot like Starlight is made to be completely forgiven by the writers. It's why I haven't watched any of this season yet, just read a few synopsis of the episodes.

I believe there is two reason for this abomination, one Hasbro wants to sell more toys since black buggy thing are Scarry to little girls, the turned them into rainbow puke. Second is the writers are progressively getting worse since Faust left, they have no continuity, no understanding of the implications of their character development and used wrong definitions during multiple chapters. The show should have ended after season 4 there is not room for character development after defeating the biggest threat possible. And I also firmly believe that people should express their amger to the writers during conventions and ask how them can become worse and worse.

I mean, does the finale really effect the fact that your stories are really amazing and emotionally driving? No. No it does not. Kuno is a beloved character to those who read her stories, and just because the show's changelings got a makeover, that doesn't mean we have to let it effect us.

The vast majority of changeling writers I've seen are slamming the episode pretty hard for the irreversible damage they did to the race, and I'm in that group. I never once said YOU couldn't like the episode for its other parts, but that central plot point destroyed it for me, and I can't bring myself to look past that. While I do agree that the changeling's new physical form is a bit silly, and that the whole concept was extremely rushed, it's not entirely bad. The idea of a second transformation isn't new around here, and if the writers had stopped at just Thorax changing, maybe we could have had some cool follow up stories. Something about how much ones heart has to change in order for that type of magic to take effect. So, in my own opinion, it is still possible to work around the show writer's haphazard treatment of amazing possibilities.
